[Trade] Canucks Trade Luongo to the Panthers
RonMexico replied to Alex the Great's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Yeah I guess I didn't see the white horse he rode into Rogers Arena on every night that you saw. He signed a massive contract because he wanted to get paid. How it affected the team long term wasn't his concern. Schneider wasn't too far from relevance when the deal was signed. He could have seen that this might be a threat and signed a shorter deal. I'll bite on one thing, management didn't have the foresight either. But Lu got his cash and now got his way again via a one-way ticket out of town. Lu is nothing more than a greedy athlete. I don't hate him for it, in fact I am jealous. -

Yes Deb. I'm a fan. I've been a fan since I can remember watching in the early 80s. Probably much like yourself. But what I am not, is a fan of any one individual player. I have a nameless jersey on purpose that I wear often, sometimes not on gamedays and even to work during the playoff gamedays when they relax the dress code. I also own a poorly fitting skate and puck jersey that I wore proudly in the 90s. I wear Canuck T-shirts and hats on days after the losses while others hide their's in the closet. I am not afraid to be a fan even through the bad times. What troubles me the most is when the players put their own interests above the success of the team. I don't like the coach, I don't like our fans, I want more money, I don't like my ice time, etc, etc. If I could have one thing, it's to have players who truly want to be here...like the Sedins and like Linden, Naslund and Smyl before them. -

Nice one. Perhaps you could stand to learn from Lu's alleged maturity over how he handled himself. Maturely stepping aside for Schneider 2 years into a 12 year deal? So he can ride the pine for the next 10 years? I guess he should just sit there are take it up the tailpipe. But he didn't, he did the only thing he could do, quit. Trade me asap. He can play dumb to the media and the fans and say he didn't ask for this but you have to blind if you didn't see the writing on the wall. It wasn't a matter of IF he was moved, it was matter of WHEN; that WHEN arrived the other day. He sure looked shocked to be traded in that post trade interview didn't he? I guess he was just doing the right thing by having no reaction but you better believe that inside he was fist pumping like crazy. Kesler is playing the same game. Saying all the 'right' things just like Lu. Except at the deadline, MG didn't hide the fact that he was trying to move Kesler. -

The only connection Lu had to this city was the black cloud that followed him around and that he now left behind. Sadly, this will be his legacy here. Losing in Game 7, subtle barbs directed at management on Twitter and dragging the team down with his woe is me attitude. He left town because he didn't want to be part of this team anymore. When times were tough, he turned tail and wanted out. Despite his holier than thou image in many a fan's eyes, he should be viewed as a quitter. Just like Kesler is now. It's the exact same situation. Proof? Last night. Moving Lu should have breathed some life into a sad sack team. Instead, the black cloud has been passed to Kesler. I am disappointed just as much as the next guy but I want nothing more than success for this team. But the rotting core hasn't been fully cut out yet. It started with Lu and I personally can't wait unitl Kesler is gone too and the recovery can begin. But you won't catch me with any tears in my eyes or down in the dumps over it. -

Please tell me you aren't a grown adult. If the actions of a hockey team affect you so much that you are moping around all depressed because they traded your hero, you may want to consider not following the team or the sport anymore. -
“He’s got real good size and he’s got good speed. He gets on pucks fast and he has that big body. We’re hoping he’s a third-liner. He’s a strong skater, and in the new NHL, we’re hoping he’s going to be a real tough guy to play against.” — Red Wings assistant GM Jim Nill (2006).Seems accurate...and that was 8 years ago.

The Canucks GM job is a lose-lose position. It doesn't matter who has the reigns. Gillis is going a good enough job. The guy pulls off the trade that no one predicted would happen one day before (two years late albeit) the actual deadline then gets ripped on the deadline day for doing next to nothing. The team is in transition and fortunately, MG is going to take the slow route and not try to fix everything in one fell swoop. This should be refreshing to hear. It should not induce rage. If it does, perhaps some time away from CDC and the Canucks would be good for your sanity.

Can you smell that? It's the fresh air that this trade has breathed into the team. Gone is the stale stench of a few seasons of goalie controversies. If you are a tried and true Luongo fan, this is sad news but I have no loyalties to any one particular player so this trade pleases me. Hopefully by tomorrow, the new odour that eminates from Kesler's locker will be gone too. It's spring cleaning starting early! -

Am I the only one who thinks that this is the biggest trolling of MG to date? This looks like a fail proof scenario. Two of the top teams in the league in an alleged bidding war. If they both pull out the rug at the last minute, then the team might as well can Gillis on the spot as no one will deal with him.

Too bad Bennett's hand is going to need another full month to recover. Though I would love a deal with Kesler, Edler, Prospect X for Neal, Bennett and Pouliot/Maata. Vancouver is getting the better deal but if they trade Kesler then they HAVE to win the deal or it's a no go. Remember Neal and Niskanen were traded for Goligoski. Bad trades for one team do happen sometimes.

It's tough to believe this blowhard has the scoop on anything. He has a penchant for sensationalism. Though I would be very happy if there was an earth-shattering deal in place.

Not a factual statement.

Team Canada - a group of individuals masquerading as a team....wait isn't that what they said about Russia? C'mon Canada. Get it in gear.

Unfortunately, work ethic and determination with no production doesn't really get you anywhere in this league.

I dunno. When a guy with third line skills falls into a plum position and ice time and excels but then gets hurt and never regains form, something tells me that he was playing above his real skill level.

Gillis silent while Canucks need him most (Bold moves my ass)

He said the words 'bold and agressive' over 5 years ago. Get over it. It doesn't have to apply to every single trade/signing from that point forward. Talk about taking something completely out of context. -
[GDT] Vancouver Canucks @ Winnipeg Jets JAN 31st 5:30

I think the importance of an exceptional training staff is overlooked. For instance, the Blue Jays medical staff are starting to get the rep as arm shredders. Maybe a change for the Canucks is necessary. -
nvm

Injured Henrik - no panic Injured Tanev - widespread panic, season over This market is something else.

Fair enough, I misread you. That said, you don't sign players long term with the intention of trading them before their value runs dry. NTC's typically render a player untradeable. Short contracts also do because who wants to give up assets for a player that will bolt after the season? Sign a guy and trade him before his first season with your team is over? That certainly helps your GM rep! Overpay to get a long term without a NTC? That hamstrings the team too. So what's a GM to do? Seems like there aren't any good scenarios to sign a player.
