It is a phase of rebellion. The shackles are off and know we don't have to make nice with ownership. So its rather liberating. Once the pain is gone. It will settle down.

I feel like I'm on a damage control party on a stricken warship and I'm on board looking for survivors before she finally sinks. You were a good ship HMCS CDC.

The thing is, without CDC, I have very little reason to look at the official Canucks website.  Once they realize that their traffic is way down, they'll probably keep CDC.  That's what my crystal ball says.  They make a certain amount of money from website traffic I'm sure.  Why throw a revenue stream away unnecessarily?  However small it may be.   Advertisers won't want to pay as much if traffic falls off significantly.  CDC is essentially volunteer fan operated and costs them very little to run.

It will be intriguing to observe whether Tocchet views Di Giuseppe as a permanent fixture on the second line or if he was merely a temporary option for the preseason games. While I believe he excels as a bottom-six forward, it's clear that he aligns with the kind of player Tocchet favours.

I think that there are a number of players who are filling spots for the time being, particularly in the top 6 D.  Overall,  PDG, Joshua, whoever the 6D is on any given day for example.  Tocchet is smart enough to know this.

    Dear CDC,

It is with mixed emotions that I write this farewell post today. In two weeks' time, our beloved Canucks forum will be closing its doors, and it's a bittersweet moment for me as I reflect on the incredible 13-year journey we've shared here.

For over a decade, this forum has been a second home for me, a place where I've laughed, debated, celebrated, and grown alongside an amazing group of passionate Vancouver Canucks fans. I've seen players come and go, witnessed the highs and lows of our team, and shared countless unforgettable moments with all of you.

For the last 7 years, I've had the distinct honour and privilege of serving as a moderator here. This role allowed me to give back to a community that has given me so much. It's been an incredible journey, and I want to take a moment to give a special shoutout to @-SN- for believing in me and providing me with the opportunity to become a moderator. Your support and trust have meant the world to me, and I will always be grateful for this chance to contribute to our amazing community.

I also want to express my heartfelt appreciation to the entire moderating team. Together, we've worked tirelessly to maintain the integrity of this forum, foster engaging discussions, and create a safe and welcoming environment for everyone. Your dedication, professionalism, and camaraderie have been the driving force behind our success. Thank you for being fantastic teammates, and I will cherish the memories we've created together.

As we bid farewell to the Canucks forum, I want to acknowledge @-SN- for his thoughtful gesture of setting up a new forum for us. It's a generous offer, and while I'm uncertain about my future participation, I encourage all of you to explore this new platform and continue the traditions and connections we've built over the years. Change can be intimidating, but it can also lead to new and exciting opportunities.

In the meantime, I hope our paths will cross again in the world of Canucks fandom. Whether it's on the new forum or in other online communities, I look forward to sharing our passion for the team and staying connected with all of you.

  4. To all those delusional folks who thought that ownership was reading CDC and taking their comments to heart:

I thought it was all BS but I guess you are having the last laugh because you were right and the fools are pulling the plug.

I've been on CDC for about 12 years and it has been a wonderful source of the latest information and often accurate criticism of the team

If they think that we can be muzzled, well, they're dumber than they look.  I will be looking forward to talking to you all on another venue and under another alias.

    Cheers everybody

Is it a rumour if true? Bo was an elephant in the room. Sounds like fact, maybe?

It was blind speculation and Miller got pinned with being that guy.  Turned out it wasn't true at all.

Was it Horvat?  No proof at all.

Making comments like that to explain the teams underperformance with absolutely no knowledge is a tad irresponsible don't you think?

At the end of the day we got Hronek, Raty and a 4th for Horvat and a 2nd. That’s actually more than I thought we would get. Hronek straight up for BO would have been a fair deal. A top 4 RHD is more valuable than a 2C tweener who isn’t great defensively and is a career 55-60 point guy.

You're selling Horvat short but at the end of the day, I agree the return for him was quite good.

I think it's a pretty safe bet that one of Cole/Soucy ends up playing right side with Hughes. The other with Hronek. Myers on the third pair (likely with Irwin/Wolanin).

Juulsen, if he makes the club, is likely #7/8 D (along with Irwin/Wolanin). And there for injuries/replace Myers should a trade develop. Though I'd imagine at some point if we move Myers/have injuries, we'll also sign Bear when he's healthy.

Ya, I agree, they certainly have options this year.

They're bigger on the back end too.  Soucy, Cole and Irwin are all over 6' and north of 200 lbs.  And can play either side.  But Cole (34) and Irwin (35) are here for the short term on year by year contracts

I think they re-sign Bear too.  They just aren't counting on him.  I take a healthy Bear over Juulsen so it's up to him to make an impression until that happens.

Also, Brisebois showed that he is a capable call up but at 6'2" and 175 he's a bit of a string bean and won't be getting physical with anyone.  I don't think that he fits the Canucks profile (physical)(many don't)

Wolanin I think is capable of being a #6

Hirose was a nice surprise but he's undersized at 6'0" 170 imo and may become a call up level player but we'll see if he is a good enough skater to make the bigs.

I suspect that Myers stays, as I said earlier, but if they do get an offer, they have the pieces to get along without him.  But I think that Allvin still has his eye out for a longer term replacement on the right side.

It's pointless to trade Myers now as we have no replacement for him.  We are still weak on the right side as is.  Also, makes no sense to trade him at the deadline to weaken our team for a playoff run.  We need to keep him for the whole year and hope he produces on the 3rd pairing playing sheltered minutes with no PK time...

Depends on when Bear is ready right?

But seriously, Myers is here still because of the reason you suggest, they just don't have anybody better.  It's a question of availability and cap hit.  Allvin said himself that Myers was going to play.  Allvin also said that they like Juulson so likely they have Hronek, Myers and Juulson on the right barring some very fortunate circumstance.

Bear looked like a good fit but of course, they have to play the odds and based on his injury and likely rehab, they can't count on Baer even though they like him.  Hard call but you have to like Allvin's pragmatism.

On the left, the have Hughes, Soucy and Cole which will be just fine.

Over all, the D is much better than last year

This is a short term solution and the D will be much better.  They're going step-wise and that is ok by me.  Next year will be another step.

And what's wrong with that? I'd happily move Myers + for the subject of this thread for example.

For starters, I can't even pronounce Lyubushkin.  ::D  Secondly, I think he's overpaid as well.  I don't think that he'd move the needle and at 29, he's not exactly young.  The Canucks would be better off with $6 full million off the cap so why not be patient?

Regardless of individual opinions, I think that they stand pat with everybody's favorite giraffe.

I'd prefer if they were able to re-sign Bear tbh

  10. Are people still thinking that they're going to move Myers?  Allvin said he wasn't.  If the offer was right though.... but Myers is the answer to no ones dreams.

The best way to get out from under the most cap with Myers is to just let his contract expire and he can go to free agency in a year.  There is no way in this trade climate that they will be able to move him without taking back cap.

It’s possible. Like others have stated though, he was an apologist for the management group, definitely knew of the sexual abuse and was probably apart of the group of players harassing and bullying Beach afterwards. Even if not true, it’s probably suspected and teams will want to avoid any controversy and scandal by signing him. It really doesn’t matter though. He’s done as a player.

It's possible that some players knew.  But nobody was talking after the fact.  Was what happened at the the player level normal hazing?  Because hazing has been part of the hockey culture.  Or was there more to it?  It's all pretty murky at this point.

Anyhow,  I think he's done too.  He had a helluva career.  Not the only jerk to ever lace em up.

It’s difficult to have any sympathy for anyone involved in the Kyle Beach scandal.

It’s a complete 360 for someone like Brandon Sutter, who many Canuck fans would say he was no good for us, but at the same time have no qualms with his character because he’s actually a good person.

Do you think that's why there are no offers?  Or is he just getting old?

I read a lot of the Beach report when it came out and other than being a bit of a jerk, Toews and Beach had almost nothing to do with each other.  Beach was a career minor leaguer and played zero games for the Hawks.   He finished his career in Europe after essentially 5 seasons with the Icehogs.

edit:  Not condoning what happened to Beach.  What happened is despicable and those involved should be punished.  However these things aren't talked about by those involved and the Beach report concluded that only a handful of the top brass knew anything about it.

They got rid of $40M Total ($10M x 4) in cost!

Took on $13.25M this year, $8.25M next year in return; a cash savings of around $19M total in real dollars when they are not contending.

      *  Plus got a 1st round pick and some old horse assets.

      * Maybe they can get a further return, reduce salary more by trading Hoffman & Rutta at deadline. Cpl of mid or late picks, some extra cash off books???

      * And if Granlund is a barn horse, maybe they can just shoot him to get off the books.  Its California; dropping his kids at school just by natural everyday circumstance...

You mean we coulda had Ekman-Larson bumped off and saved all of that grief?

We simply don't have cheap depth forwards.  The UFA forwards I've proposed are all incredibly cheap and are proven bottom-six players who probably haven't been signed because of a tight cap - a situation our team is also struggling with.  It's still a very team-friendly market right now and I feel like Vancouver still has some potential to exploit that more.  Staying put is going to result in an another ineffective forward core beyond the top six.  I mean, just look at this trio and ask yourself if you think they can do better in the bottom six:

Could contain: Person, Text, Chart, Plot, Number, Symbol, Face, HeadCould contain: Person, TextCould contain: Boy, Male, Person, Teen, Text, Number, Symbol

You put them on a line together and nothing's going to happen offensively.  But they are probably going to give up a lot of scoring chances.

What I mean to say is that they're going to have to work on this.  Top of mind for this offseason had to be improving the D and bringing in a 3C all of which could also help the PK.  I think that to one degree or another Allvin has been successful.  It remains to be seen how successful though.

The job is clearly not finished.  Cap efficiencies need to be found, bottom 6 improvements made and organizational and prospect depth improved.  Who knows, we may see prospects moving up to the big club.  Wouldn't that be something?

  15. 15 minutes ago, DrJockitch said:

I am concerned about the composition of our bottom six but this is not hockey from the 70-90s.  Most teams have one of the top 2 lines that can take matchups, one solid defensive line and a third line that can generate some offence (a third line not the third line).

There are very few of the 2 offensive lines, 2 defensive lines setups.  Good teams almost always now have 3 offensive lines or just 4 all situation lines.

It is problematic that 2 of Hogs, Beau, Garland will likely be in our bottom six but not as problematic as in the dead puck era.

There are no perfect teams in the cap era.  I do think we still need another right shot D and a decent right handed centre away from being a good team.  Still feels like we have rebuilt the D twice without finding a partner for Q.

You're right Garland (4.95) and Beauvillier (4.15) in the bottom 6 are inefficient use of cap and this needs to be corrected.  I think that Hogs and Podz eventually replace them and they need to be careful how much salary they pay those 2 if they're going to be top 6 / bottom 6 tweeners.

The most I can see paying a 3rd line winger is what Pearson is getting (3.25) but only if that player is a jack of all trades type (PK, up and down the line up); like Higgins and Honey Badger used to be.

Yup, we're constantly taking ourselves out of the equation before we start most years. We just spend to the limit on whatever suits our fancy. Usually defensively inept wingers. Then it's throw the team out there and hope it equals Cup. When it inevitably doesn't we just make up a bunch of excuses and run it back the next year. It is getting tiring doing everything backwards.

Until giant holes in the line up get filled, this is what's going to happen.  I have no problem with the moves that Allvin has made.

After the Horvat trade, free cap was used to sign a top 4 RHD, Hronek.  Giant hole filled.

After OEL buyout, no major single piece added but size, grit and depth added to D, Soucy and Cole.  Also a defensive 3C, Bleuger, who is good on the PK and can win face offs.

When they get cap space, it's going to be used.  Would you rather they didn't deal with the D and the PK?  Are these permanent solutions?  We'll see.  But they won't need permanent free cap space of $7M or so until they're cup contenders and want to add at the deadline.  In the meantime, they need to be able to improve the team and still be able to navigate contract renewals.

EP and Hronek are coming up for renewal.  The cap is going up and if they need more space, Myers and Beauvillier are expiring and expendable.
