[PGT] Vancouver Canucks at Los Angeles Kings | Mar. 18, 2023

I wouldn't call Hronek a core piece. We haven't seen him yet. But you're right, he's an important piece. Benning had been looking for a top 4 RHD since 2015 when he moved Bieksa and the best he came up with was an overpay for Myers in free agency. Allvin paid a price but it was a price that had to be paid for this core. -
Tocchet ranks 1st in NHL history with 18 Gordie Howe hat tricks. The 4x All-Star totaled 440 goals, 952 points, and 2,912 penalty minutes over his 18-year career. He won 2 Canada Cups as well as a Stanley Cup in 1992 with the Penguins. Rick won 2 more Cups as Assistant Coach of the Penguins in 2016 and 2017. from Elite Prospects 18 Gordie Howe Hat Tricks. Is this the kind of team they're building? If it is I like it a lot.

So true. We're dealing with 18-20 year old kids who may or may not speak English. It's pretty hard being thrown in the deep end of the hockey pool, living in a foreign country with no friends or family and not being confident with the language. Young people have enough to deal with anyhow. This is why teams are happy to have their draft picks play for a year or 2 (maybe more) in their home country. Most European countries have a pretty good level of hockey for these kids to develop in anyhow. The Canucks have guys like Salo in Finland and others to help prepare players for what lays ahead in the AHL and NHL Development is as important as good drafting

(Proposal) Quick Retool VAN-CGY
Crabcakes replied to Seannnp's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Wow, if Calgary goes rebuild, Treliving (and Sutter) will be gone. They've just signed Huberdeau and Weegar to long term contracts. The line up that Treliving assembled looks like a line up to take a run at a cup (with the addition of a rental or 2). I would expect a new coach and maybe a few small moves. Sometimes when a lot of moves are made in a season, it just takes time to gel. Calgary way under performed this year. -
I wouldn't mind seeing the Canucks trade down at all. Anything from 14 (Calgary) to Seattle (21) and pick up a 1st, 2nd and maybe another pick with Seattle or Nashville's 20 OA. With the 1st, they could pick up a good young D + + The alternative, if they're picking as low as 8 or 9 and nobody wants to play, just pluck Reinbacher off the board (6'2" RHD). They wouldn't be going that far off the board.

Hronek is a 2-way D but is good offensively and has averaged about 0.5 ppg throughout his career (305 games) and can QB the PP. It makes more sense to have Hughes and Hronek on separate lines. It's going to take a lot of pressure off of Hughes and if both are healthy, we shouldn't see Hughes logging north of 24 minutes. This often results in better production.

Seriously doubt any team below us will have a hot run. Goal differential is a long term indicator for how good a team is. All the teams below us have way worse differentials 10. Detroit -18 9. St Louis -37 8. Vancouver -29 7. Philadelphia -48 6. Arizona -49 5. Montreal -60 4. Anaheim -99 3. Chicago -71 2. San Jose -64 1. Columbus -75 According to this metric, there's a fair chance that Van finishes ahead of St Louis but it's not likely that they finish ahead of Detroit. All the teams below Van in the standings are 20 or more worse in goal differential except for Philly at 19. Nobody below us is passing us under their own power. Unfortunately, it doesn't look the the Canucks are going on a slide either.
