  1. I think that we're starting to see the kind of team that they're building. And building is what they're doing. That's what JR said they were doing and the dim media in this city reads certain moves to mean that they're doing something completely different. Certain media members seem to think that they know better than JR who has been running hockey teams for decades and has won 3 cups. They've added some really nice pieces (Kuzmenko, Hronek, Beauvillier, Mikheyev) some nice support pieces, and some good prospects to build around the core as they see it: Pettersson, Hughes and Demko. The look? Speed and skill. Major surgery is required because there are some contracts that are clearly bad and there are a few pieces who didn't fit with their model. The Horvat trade was major. No doubt about it. Is there more? Likely. Boeser is slow but has a good IQ and while he does a lot of things well, his salary is not good value. Does he get better as he gets over the death of his father? That is the risk here. Myers, one year left on a poor value contract. Can or should they move on? Bringing in Hronek will certainly reduce his minutes. Does this make him tolerable for 1 more season? Surely they let him go after his contract expires at the latest. Miller is beginning to look good under Tocchet's system but do they keep him or move him while they still have the chance? His new contract is a really big chew and he's outside their age window. Garland fits their general model but is a small, perimeter player but runs hot and cold in terms of production. He could be a nice cap dump Ekman-Larson has a pretty ugly contract compared to his value. Can they move him somehow? A buyout would be expensive. Only if they can't move enough cap by other means. There's not many on this list that fits their model of speed and skill. We'll see who Allvin decides to carve off this team Now they have a coach who has implemented a system that has helped play tremendously. It really depends on how much they can do over the summer as to how long it will be before they compete for a playoff spot
  2. He's been better than a point a game the last 2 seasons in the NCAA which is why we have high hopes. 23 years old. November b'day
  3. He's out of luck for the AHL playoffs? Does anybody know this?
  4. FYI Intangibles are those qualities that don't show up on the stat sheet. For example, leadership, being a glue guy, being good in the room, Kuz is likeable and lightens the mood around him, always smiling..... these types of things
  5. You're right, he's put up 30 before. I just don't see him sniping at north of 20% again. When Barzal is back on his wing, they'll be a great combo and Lou Lam will get what he wanted. I do wonder about Bo's intangibles because the Canucks don't seem to be missing him
  6. Horvat had a s% of 24% which is around 10% more than historical for him. It was totally not sustainable.
  7. This is coaching. What Tocchet called predictability. The breakouts are much better now.
  8. Durability is the issue for Chychrun. The most games he has ever played in a season is 68 and only 2 over 60 in 7 seasons
  9. Lord knows what happens in Calgary this summer. They went from 1st in the Pacific to 6th in 1 year.
  10. Ya, Ekholm for a 1st, 4th and Barrie. 4 unanswered goals in short order. McDavid is frowning
  11. I get all that. There's a lot of work to do with this line up. Some pieces that they have to move are going to be really difficult. I'm pro-tank for the rest of the year but even so, I think they pick around 8OA We haven't seen Hronek yet. I think that was a very good move. Something Benning wasn't able to do for years. But they need to keep picking away at revamping the D. I actually wouldn't mind if they traded down 6-10 spots in the draft and maybe adding a 2nd and drafting one of the top RHD's. They also need a 3C
  12. I was totally skeptical when they announced Tocchet as the new coach. Didn't like it a bit. It didn't take long however to realize that he is really good. He's a great communicator and has brought structure and discipline. I couldn't be happier.
  13. Retaining on Myers means retaining on the cap hit. His actual salary is incidental. There are a few teams, as people have said, who need to get to the cap floor and Myers salary would be ideal for them if he would allow the trade (Anaheim, Chicago etc) Otherwise, retention of cap would be necessary.
  14. He's on a non-playoff team in the OHL and as a European, he isn't restricted from playing in the AHL. He's big enough (5-11, 200 lbs). His contract doesn't kick in until July, so some games next year in Abby towards the end of the season or playoffs maybe? There must be something about having the contract that allows him to take advantage of some of the resources, coaching, training etc that the Canucks can provide and that the Canucks would pay for them. I remember something about Hughes not coming out to Van post draft to participate in a young guns tournament because there were rules against him accepting a free plane ticket from the Canucks to come out. That would affect his amateur status, but that's NCAA. Is Major Junior as strict? Having said all of this, his development is important and they want to be sure that it is optimized but not rushed. I don't know if language is an issue or whether he's lonely or dealing with culture shock. There are certainly plenty of Russians in the Canucks system now from Gonchar, 4 players now with Van (not all are assured of being regulars next season) and Klimovich in Abby. Allvin is certainly making the club friendly to Russians. This has to be intentional.
