[PGT] Vancouver Canucks at Vegas Golden Knights | Dec. 15, 2019

What on earth was Myers thinking when he engaged in a board battle behind the opposition's net? That led to the 5th goal. There is a frustrated player. He looked to me like he didn't know what to do. -

What kind of a coach is Green? So many are calling for his head. I'm not so sure he is the problem but if a GM has to do something, anything, then he can fire his coach more easily than making trades. It seems that a GM can fire the coach 1000X more easily than making a couple of deals. It's a really frustrating place the Canucks are in right now. They seem to be much less of a team than they were a month or 6 weeks ago. Is this part of the development of the team or is something seriously wrong? This is rhetorical, no pressure -
Lol, I think that you can still get the same 2 year diploma's at those schools and/or do a couple of years in smaller classes before you finish your degree at a "name" school. But ya, how dumb are those who go straight to Fort Mac and opposed to those with 6 figure student loans who are also in Fort Mac trying to pay off their debt?

Some 16 year olds are very savvy and think critically etc. Most people need some training to get there which is one of the important benefits of a University education. Although it's not automatic. A degree does not mean that a person is skilled at critical thinking. Incidentally, Greta Thunberg has tweeted that she is on the Aspergers spectrum

Marky commented about the team coming out slow in the first. San Jose is a team who has always come out guns a blazing in the first at home. It used to be about surviving the first 10 minutes. I think they played ok. Dell had a solid game. But bigger picture, as the competition ramps up, our top lines, who are mostly very young are going to have to find a way to continue producing. Petey, Boeser, Hughes, and Horvat to a lesser degree are getting checked more closely and have less time and space. It doesn't help that Ferland is out because Benning was counting on the 2nd line having more impact. Until this happens, we're going to see the top line facing the best defenders and struggling to produce especially on the road. Incidentally, around 08, 09 the previous core had the same problem. This was before Kesler took his game to the elite level. Also at that time when AV was in danger of losing his job. -
If Baertschi clears waivers, he will be more marketable. Due to the cap, it's hard to trade players without taking a similar salary in return. Baer has a $3.3M cap hit. I think that if he gets moved, it'll be as insurance for a team. More likely, nobody will bite unless they have a serious injury to a player who they have to replace.
-
Baertschi is not in that group. He's 0.55 ppg at the NHL level. However, you're exactly right. There are lots of players like this. Archibald was another who put up great numbers in Utica and very little in the NHL. It's the toughest league in the world and as the competition ramps up, we're seeing production from young players and rookies slow down already as they have to make adjustments to their games to continue having an impact.
-
Not disagreeing with you fwiw. Neither LE or Baer are fitting with the "new" Canucks. I think they see Baer as more valuable as a development tool in Utica than LE. Baer could easily be playing on a line with Horvat and Pearson but they want players who are harder to play against. It's complicated, this is my 3rd post in this thread today and between all 3, I think I've covered my opinion
-
They kept LE? Like they had a choice. He can't be traded and he would take up a valuable place for a developing player in Utica. So they're stuck with him. LE is pretty much a press box regular when the team is close to healthy and despite how everybody feels, the Canucks see him as defensively sound and good on the PK. On a day to day basis, I don't think they consider his salary at all. They can't. Sven at least, will make other players better in Utica and really produces there Comparing him to Baer is apples to oranges. Baer is 2nd PP and soft on the puck but when he goes to the dirty areas, which he will, he can be effective.
-
I think the issue is that Baer isn't a fit with the type of play the Benning wants from his players. That's really the issue. He puts up around 0.55 ppg which puts him in a class with most 2nd line players. He played 6 games with the Canucks and had only 2 assists but he really didn't have a chance to find his NHL legs. I think he generally takes 6-10 games to hit his stride. His AHL performance is 4-18-22 +5 in 15 games. He's well over a ppg which would indicated that he out classes the AHL competition. For the Canucks, I thought they were going to go with Sven on the 2nd line, then Benning signed Ferland. They clearly prefer Leivo or Pearson who are harder on the puck if less skilled. I think that as the season progresses, there will be a team with an injury at the 3rd or maybe 2nd line level where he would fit. It's a matter of the opportunity arising.

Agree, Subban would hand cuff us cap wise the same way Tavares has hand cuffed the Leafs. The difference of course is that Johnny Pajama's can play

Click bait cantstandya, his sidekick is even worse -
In yesterdays game, as the game went on, the Canucks weren't breaking out of their own zone as well as the game went on. Was this due to in game adjustments by Buffalo? Of was it more to do with the Sabres upping their effort level. @debluvscanucks above suggested that the Canucks come out strong to start the game and can't sustain the effort much beyond the first period. Maybe its a little of everything. I did note that on the tying goal 6 on 5 in the 3rd, the Canucks weren't skating and just trying to play positionally and keeping the puck to the outside.
