You can't let teams like Dallas get the first goal. The rest of the game will be like watching paint dry

Jason Garrison sues Vancouver based financial advisor

Investing takes some learning. In the first few years growth of your retirement fund depends more on your monthly contribution for growth than how it is invested so a person has some time. -
I heard that in the Russia / CHL series, Podkolsin is showing well in every way but putting the puck in the net.

Pro athletes can put away that much but most people can't save 50% unless they're living with their parents. Having said that, the concept is totally sound and not any different from David Chilton's "The Wealthy Barber". I gave copies to both my kids as high school grad presents. Don't know if they read it. I got them something more fun too. Essentially he suggests saving 10% and never touching it. In 30 years, work can be optional. -

My recollection was that Garrison's dad had an insurance agency. You know, selling autoplan and home owners insurance etc. Maybe someone could confirm. -

It's a big embarrassment for these guys to have lost a lot of money. And if they did, most would keep quiet about it. I'd be willing to bet that there are lots of professional athletes who do whether it's through not understanding what ventures they are getting into, not understanding the risks or by flat out being swindled. Who was that guy who played for the Blue Jackets who's parents screwed him financially? If this gets out in the open, the NHLPA could and should help their members to manage their finances properly. Or even where to look for proper advice. Who to trust and who not to trust. It takes some wisdom and experience and is very easy to let a fortune run through your fingers. -

Cherry is just trying to understand this. Why are all these people not wearing poppy's? I think he got it wrong. It's not immigrants. I imagine that there are some immigrants who don't understand but there are lots of people who just don't think that poppy's are important. They obviously are to Cherry. They are to me. I buy a poppy every year and I wear it because it shows everybody that I respect that people paid the ultimate price to preserve our way of life. Nobody who wears one has to say anything. Also, the poppy fund is a charity and the money goes to a good cause. When I was a kid, they gave out poppy's at school. We all brought 10 cents or 25 cents to give to the fund and we were told by the teacher what it all mean't. We also had our own Remembrance Day ceremony at school maybe on the 10th of November or on the Friday before if the 11th was on a weekend or Monday. They made a big deal about it and everybody was so serious. I was a Boy Scout and we used to march to the cenotaph on Remembrance Day ahead of the Veterans in our little town and we watched as they marched all grim faced and were remembering their fallen buddies. And we'd say, did you see Billy's dad? He was crying. There were a few really old guys who we knew were WW1 Vets. We understood how serious it was because we were face to face with the Veterans. Do they still do this today? I'm not sure. I know that a WW2 Veteran would have to be over 90 years old today. There have been wars since but the Veterans aren't in the same numbers today. My kids don't think poppy's are important. I used to make a point of watching the ceremony on TV and called the kids in to watch for 10 minutes or so. They understand what it's all about and respect it but I guess it doesn't have the same human face to it now that it had for me. I think that people in general do forget when there hasn't been a big war for many years. That is a good thing obviously. But I think that we need the Don Cherry's of this world to get upset and emotional at this time of year and say things that aren't PC because it gets us talking and otherwise we would forget.

Another loss to Jersey today. Maybe it's just experience and the frustration factor. I didn't watch today but there's got to be a solution. -

I think that's the way he is viewed by Benning. The game has passed him by and he should hang em up imo -

I think that Eriksson does care and he is trying. The thing with him is he just isn't able to keep up any more. The game has passed him by. He should retire imo. Take your damn bonus on July 1 then make the announcement wouldya Loui? -

Loui is a real predicament. What do you do with him? Can't trade, don't want to send down and take up a roster spot that is better suited for a developing player with a future. So for now, I think he's seen as a press box dweller who from time to time will draw into the line up to fill a spot when there are injuries and he won't hurt the team. He also won't help a whole heck of a lot either. I find myself agreeing with posters above who are saying that Baertschi and Goldobin just don't have the game that the Canucks want to be playing moving forward. Goldy is a guy who just never "got it" despite his obvious skill. The skill makes him stand out at the AHL level but in the NHL it's just not enough on it's own. He's done imo. Baer plays a softer skilled game but at least he can be effective at the NHL level when he goes to the dirty areas. He will put up points at a 0.5 ppg rate and he is fine in the top 6 even if he isn't anybody's first choice. Green tried Gaudette on the 2nd line for a few games because he always brings the effort and has speed but it is apparent that he needs work because he pretty much disappeared. I'd really rather Gaudette went back to Utica. Virtanen is another who I don't think is ready for the top 6. He's gaining confidence on the 3rd line so lets not mess with that. He's starting to realize that he can be a force but if he gets put up against top D, the bubble may burst. In the mean time, Pearson is in a slump and Leivo has demonstrated that he's really a 3rd line player. I think that for now, until Ferland is back, they're missing a top 6 player and Baertschi is the best bet. -

That's right, Anaheim, OT loss. The Canucks like that long break out pass and the Jets had a guy at the red line making sure that the Canuck player didn't advance far enough to get an on-side chip, or dump in. This and other things was throwing the Canucks off their game and I could tell that players were getting frustrated. And a frustrated player will make mistakes and take penalties. -

I suppose that over time really good players will develop a bag of tricks that work at the NHL level and use them in such a way as they are unpredictable which keeps the D guessing. -

Pettersson had a slow start this season too and over a few games he adjusted his game to how he was being defended. I imagine his whole career is going to be a series of adjustments in his game. Unless he gets the idea to be proactive -
Curling was invented in Scotland. Probably as a winter game when the golf course had frozen.
