  1. Benning was shopping for a top 4 RHD since 2015 when he moved on from Bieksa and wasn't able to find one. I think he hoped that Myers was going to be that guy and offered him 6 x 6 to get him in free agency. Now, Allvin has had the opportunity he pretty much has to take it because he may have to wait a long long time before he gets another one. Drance is a pretty critical little sh*t who does nothing but poke holes in other peoples performance and has actually done nothing of the sort himself. He just has no cred with me Also, drafting a top D, he might have to wait 3-5 years before that guy is fully cooked and the present core: 23, 25, 27 would be 28, 30, 32. Dave Nonis said essentially this today on 650 to give a very good reason why Allvin made the deal
  2. Horvat is 27. You don't expect a player to continue developing at that point so his great year is more likely what is referred to as a career year and we would expect him to regress to his mean performance. Horvat has steady stats for the last few years and a big increase this year. Same happened with Miller last year at age 28. Same happened with both Sedins at age 29-30. You could certainly argue that at age 25, Hronek has been improving every year in terms of points, and when he didn't improve in points, he made a tremendous improvement in +/-. So Hronek is more likely to be able to sustain this level. He is now fully developed.
  3. Yes, Hronek won't be playing with Hughes. He has plenty of offensive ability so will anchor his own pair. I've heard he is more of a 2-way player than Hughes; more defensively responsible
  4. Love this trade. This is not adding the Chaos Giraffe, this is an actual top 4 RHD which is something the club has been looking to add since Bieksa retired. 1. Is this a rebuild? Management says no. It's building upon a small core of players. 1C (Pettersson, 24), 1 LHD (Hughes, 23), Goalie (Demko, 27) 2. What I was most disappointed about the Horvat trade was the the return didn't address the single most pressing need of the club which is a top 4 RHD. Well maybe this couldn't be achieved in 1 step. So Allvin has done it in 2 steps. The return on Horvat is now a top 4 RHD (Hronek, 25), a young prospect Centre (Raty, 20) and a top 6 RW (Beauvillier, 25) and they had to add a 2nd round pick. Yes, the price is high, but good players cost. Cudo's to Allvin. This is a great result.
  5. I was kidding. But you know, that is how one should manage, by consulting everyone which empowers them and better decisions get made. That's how you get to 3,000 games
  6. It's a game of musical chairs and nobody wants to be left standing there like a dummy It takes a lot of nerve with guys like Schenn. Allvin probably could have had his 3rd already but when things get hot and heavy on Friday, who knows?
  7. I'm mostly happy with the new regime. I wasn't happy with keeping Miller over Horvat but I did wonder about the reasons why thing unfolded the way they did. Was there a conflict between Horvat and Miller as @EdgarM suggested? They may have felt that they had to sign one or the other and felt that on balance Miller was the better call. At any rate, they don't seem to be any worse off for losing Horvat. I liked Boudreau a lot but now that Tocchet has been here a few weeks, I think that he is exactly what the team needed. He took them down, forcing the new system and now he's getting buy in and they're starting to play better. My impression is that Tocchet is tough but not mean. But the big picture is really what is happening in the front office. Allvin is the GM and not Rutherford but Rutherford is a better front man. However, he stuck his foot in it one too many times so Allvin is going to have to learn how to do the dance. I like the deals that Allvin has done in the main and think that he's pretty much as advertised: cautious, thorough and methodical. It's clear that the biggest project he has is to re-work the defense but it's very hard to do anything with the top 4 especially will little cap room. However, he hasn't stopped making deals around the fringes that he is able to. The Major Surgery that he has done so far has been good. I give them 2 years, the year after next, before they're fighting for a playoff spot again. It just seems that the mess that they've inherited can't be rushed
  8. I think these types of players are hit and miss but mostly miss. Did Benning hit on any of them? Baertchi was the best and then he came into concussion issues. The thing is, it has to be part of your plan but only a small part. Benning gave away too many picks. Allvin at least, gets that he needs good picks and insisted on the 1st for Horvat. I think that if you're counting on 60% draft picks, 40% projects, college and Europeans you might be successful. The thing too is that a lot of these reclamation types are running out of time on their ELC which is the reason why they're being traded. You have to look for the reasons. Raty has 2 years on his ELC after this season. Kravstov has arb rights this summer because he was signed in 2019 but he also played off and on in the KHL since. He's never really performed in the NHL so he'll sign for <$1M for a year again. But the real reason why he was moved was to make room for Kane so he's fairly low risk.
  9. You never know. Miller seems unlikely. I wouldn't have expected them to trade for 37 year old Burns either but they did. 2 more years on his contract.
  10. A 30 year old on a long term contract is way off the Canes strategy. The only players they have for any kind of term are 22. Svech and Kok
  11. It came down to having to move a couple of players quickly (Kravstov and Leschyshyn) so that they could land an impact player (Kane) before the deadline. Leschyshyn was waived (they get nothing) and they took what they could get for Kravstov. Allvin and the Canucks are the happy beneficiaries of circumstance.
