This move was planned and was between Curtis Sanford and Ian Clark. Silovs is learning about the NHL. Players are that much faster and they all can shoot the puck. Young goalies with promise need to know how high the bar is. I suspect the plan is to have Silovs back up next year. Reading between the lines on Tocchet interviews, this season is all about the future

Thank God Van didn't make the deal. Far too much to give up. QH > JC -
[Rumour] Coyotes gauging market on Jakob Chychrun
Crabcakes replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Chychrun is very affordable for the next 2 seasons but he is a player who should be core on the team who drafted him. The fact that they're shopping him is testimony to the dysfunction that the Yotes are. A player coming from there should be viewed with caution. And then there's the ask. Even Crazy Jim wouldn't go there because it's way too much. The way the Canucks are set up they can't absorb another very large contract on the back end in a couple of years because OEL is going nowhere. -
Stillman is coming around. Hunt is fine but he's 5-9 176 and 34 years old. He's not the answer

[Proposal] Demko and Boeser to Buffalo
Crabcakes replied to Provost's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
I agree. Journeymen like Beauvillier can be had via trade but real talent is coming through the draft. There's no telling where Podkolzin, Hoglander or Raty peak but it would be lucky to get 1 of them in the top 6. And there are no D coming so we are really waiting on drafted players. I think that Allvin understands that and he insisted on a good pick in return for Horvat. -

You may be right but I don't see that happening. It's tough to get those 3 pieces but they have them and it's true that they've wasted a few years already. I see everybody else as being up for grabs and they really, really need to improve the D The good news is that ownership has agreed to ship a player like Horvat out so surely, he will agree to move other good pieces. I think that some of the players that they have are keepers. I think they like the speed of Mikheyev and Beauvillier. Kuzmenko was looking great under Boudreau and we'll see where that goes with Tocchet. Bear also seems to be doing well. These players seem to me to fit with the team they are trying to build. I think we see the addition of a few youngish (25 and under) players added simply because in a hard cap world, players shipped out must have salary coming back. I would hope that these players will be on less term than players going out. So the cap situation may take a year or 2 to improve in a substantial way. Also, they are attempting to get draft picks for top players like Horvat and rentals like Schenn. That is the way that I think they go from here. We can say that they should move Boeser, Garland and Myers right away but all of these moves require the opportunity so while it may be the plan to move on from these guys, it can't always be done when they want to. It's a really difficult situation but management will have to keep their eye on the work that they have to do -

That's right. To have played so long with 2nd and 3rd goalies, you could predict a poor record even if the D weren't such a problem -

They're saying that Liljegren and Sandin just aren't good enough to take them very far in the playoffs. The Leafs almost certainly play Tampa in the 1st round. If by some miracle they win, Boston in the 2nd. Also that this may be the last chance for Dubas. If they think that Myers is their answer on the right side, let him go -

Ya but lets wait a few games when he's not running on high adrenaline. -

I heard this and it makes me really uneasy. So if they like a pick at 16 and that is their slot, then they can elect to take it. Sounds patently unfair -

Moving Demmer is wrong headed. I can't understand why people think he should be moved simply because they could get a decent return. You don't move your 1C, 1D or 1G if that is what they really are Moving a 1G usually nets less than fair value especially given the development that they take -
The deserving(?) downfall of the Vancouver Canucks
Crabcakes replied to kilgore's topic in Canucks Talk
Being a contender / playoff team year over year is a fine goal. Of course a cup is the ultimate goal. It must be. However, a team must pay it's dues in order to build a winner and dispatching Benning to make a quick turn around and always having to make the playoffs, when said like that is futile and over 8 years it was proven to be so. Now, 10 years after Gillis called for a rebuild and even began one with the draft of Bo Horvat, they're in a real pickle. -
Don't worry, I doubt Jake is bright enough for BCIT My alma mater by the way. Good choice

Weird. I'm happy that Jersey won.

Both salaries are too high but not signing Miller at 8.0 wouldn't make it ok to sign Horvat at 8.5 After the first mistake, I'm happy that they didn't follow through with another I'd rather they had walked on from both tbh but it is what it is....

Ya, and Josh in the top 6 means we really suck!

I get tired of hearing arguments that the reason Player X never succeeded was because he was never deployed in a way that he would succeed. Look, every player must EARN his ice time and how he is deployed. If they don't show up to camp fit or they don't do what the coaching staff says or they just can't learn, then they don't EARN power play time or o-zone starts etc. It's not the coaches fault. It's the players responsibility. Just because a player is a top 10 pick, does not entitle him to get all these perks. It's not a case of chicken and egg. It's not, oh he didn't develop because he was never got o-zone starts. Player X didn't develop because he didn't have what it takes inside to be an NHL player. Whether it's desire, intelligence or immaturity. Just because a player has all of the tools, size, skating, shot, puck handling, doesn't make him an NHL player.
