Sure it was clean. It didn't look to me like Tryamkin expected to get hit that hard. Ferland is a big boy at 225 himself and there are lots of other guys that size who know how to hit hard too. I'm not worried either. Let's just call it a wake up call.

We had to know that various thugs would be testing Tryamkin. Since his sensational pasting of Brandon Pirri and subsequent throwing down of Chris Stewart of the Ducks on April 1, 2016 of all days, he leapt onto the radar screen of NHL players. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=czSBUMHSenQ As far as lacking push back. We are well aware that particularly the Canuck forwards are a work in progress. Bennings construction of the defense is further along than the forwards and on defense, each line has a player who can play a physical game paired with a more skilled player. It is fair to suggest that he has similar plans for the forwards. Tryamkin has the tools clearly and showed his inexperience at not being fully prepared for the Ferland hit. I think this has been a wake up call for him. He is a quick learner and I would like to think he would be ready for such challenges in the future.

Did you read my post? I don't think Megna should be on the first line. Chaput, Skille and Megna are all good 4th liners. Don't you like the 4th line? Such as it is. What is confusing? Boucher is going to need a look. I've been wondering how this is going to happen since they signed him. A shoe must drop here.

Coaches and GM's have always been at odds like this. One needs to build a team. The other, needs to win games. But they both have to agree that nobody should get a free ride. Besides last game, when the puck drops, Willie hasn't planned on giving Rodin 7 mins. If he's out there, taking up space, he'll think twice about sending him out again. It's a fluid situation. It isn't planned in advance. Maybe after 2 periods, Rodin goes, coach, my knee hurts, don't send me out unless somebody else gets injured. Consider this, maybe (I'm speculating here) Benning told Willie, after the Vey fiasco, if a player hasn't earned ice time, don't give it to him. We were a laughing stock in the press, the owner is pissed and the fan's don't want to pay their hard earned cash to watch entitled floaters out there. We all need to be on the same page here. It's about developing players and teaching them how to play the right way. Who knows, maybe I'm wrong and Willie really is a dumbass. I've never seen a guy dressed and not getting a single shift before. Unorthodox to say the least.

Botchford is about self promotion. I gave up reading Botch. To use Journalism and Botchford in the same, paragraph is pushing the limits. I like the effort that Megna and Chaput, and Skille bring, 4th liners all imo. I disagree with Megna playing with the Sedins. He brings it but the skill level isn't there. If Willie likes chances, great, but bury at least one for Gods sake. Last night he was all alone, 10 feet in front of the goal and rifled one right in the goalies crest. At least he hit the net but c'mon. He has some of the same qualities of Hansen so I see the logic. Promote Burrows. Or Eriksson....he's pretty good. Linden Vey, I referred to above. On paper, he should have been much better. They gave him a good spot in the line up and had all the patience in the world with him as far as getting to the level that they expected of him. It was a mistake. After a couple of months, they reeled him in and gave him time based on merit. He did get better but no where near what was expected and after 2 years, he is now a Flame. Are you guys suggesting that they gift Rodin time like they gifted it to Vey? The fan base never got over those first months of Vey's tenure. And now you suggest that they repeat the same mistake. Willie and Jim know that it was a mistake and I am glad they learned from it.

Rodin was told exactly what was going on. He dressed for insurance only as an extra guy last night and didn't expect to get a shift. Watch him when he gets in a game. He is playing on the perimeter and avoiding contact. Maybe it's just confidence in his knee. In his first game back against Calgary, last game before Christmas, he started on the 2nd line and before the end of period 1 he was on the 4th line. I call that opportunity and at this point, every time he plays is an opportunity. He is fast and skilled and not himself. Sure it's about earning time. If he's going through the motions, he sits. The reasons don't matter. There is no room for passengers in the NHL. He knows that he has a one year contract and half a year is gone already. He is going to have to find something within himself and show us how he can play pretty soon or he'll be back in Sweden next year. Willie can't do it for him. Willie's style is to reward a player when he plays the right way. When he plays the wrong way, ice time gets cut back. Or maybe he gets sent to Utica. I'm seeing a lot of players starting to play the right way. Megna's skills may be meh but he's putting out 100% effort and getting ice time as a result. That's all you can ask. This is the culture they want on this team and this is what got them 6 wins in a row. NOBODY is entitled to ice time, nor should they be.
-
Rodin is not impressing. I'm all for making him earn his ice time. Willie needs to be firm on this because the other players notice. No more Linden Vey-like BS. He's either not ready because of his injury or he has to learn to play between the dots like Baertchi has.

Yes. Tryamkin is 22. Born Aug 30, 1994. Miller had some nice things to say about his improvement so far this year.
-
Oleksiak is a 24 year old former 14th OA pick in 2011 and shows lots of potential. Since his NHL debut in 2012, he has played 95 NHL games moving back and forth between the Stars and the AHL Texans. He has played 18 NHL games to date this season and has scored 4 goals.
-
On Tryamkin. There's no disputing the potential there. I honestly see a bridge contract coming up for him rather than big bucks. He often just moves the puck to a safe place or makes an alley-oop clearance. The raw skills indicate that this is temporary but until we start seeing more authoritative play from him, he'll continue as a bottom pair player.

Thank's for posting. What's the source of this? This clears up that cryptic interview from face book. I still don't know what has kept him off the bike and losing his fitness for 3 weeks.

I'd really like to think that there's more there than we've seen so far

A left handed Gudbranson? I'm still hoping that Guddy will turn into the guy we thought we were getting. Maybe the wrist was holding him back. If we're getting what we see, a 4/5 D who is somewhat physical, that would be a disappointing based on what we gave up to get him and how other players have developed around him (and are surpassing him). If the top 4 turns into Edler, Stecher; Hutton, Tanev......doesn't that put him on the 3rd pair with ??? or as 7th man? Or on the trade block? Honestly, I'm seeing the evolution of the Canucks D going something like this: as Edler's contract expires in 2 years (he's not moving sooner), Juolevi should be ready to slot in the line up. I'm not sure if they let Sbisa slide in expansion but let's say they do. So we're looking at: Hutton Tanev Tryamkin Stecher Juolevi Gudbranson......for 2018-19 Not to mention Pedan, Subban, and Brisebois.......There's offence and defense on every pair, and some size, grit and speed. And this is strictly through development with no deals made. And to throw a wrench into the gears, Sbisa is metamorphosing from the Pizza Man to Sbejus before our eyes.

Yes Quote: "Alzner played Junior B as a 14/15 year old for the Richmond Sockeyes in 2003-04, and won the PIJHL league championship, the Cyclone Taylor Cup provincial championship and placed 2nd in the Keystone Cup."

I tweeted Patterson this question this morning. We'll see if he responds. Rodin played the fewest minutes by far of all the Canucks (a little over 7 minutes) against Calgary. My impression was wow, is this guy fast. Next thing he was relegated to the 4th line. It was probably a little early for him to come back and his knee was bothering him. There's nothing to lose with this guy. I think they should be as patient as they can with his rehab. He's way faster than Baer and just as skilled (maybe more).
-
Ya, liking the new pairs. Edler Stecher Hutton Tanev Sbisa Tryamkin Guddy who?

It takes a lot of energy to move 265 lbs around the rink. I think Willie watches the big guy's minutes. Even when he's playing well, he has had the lowest minutes of all the D. Progress is good imo. Love the physical aspect he brought against the Kings. Easily knocking Nolan off his feet in front of the net (that's Jordan Nolan (Ted's kid btw) 6'3" 225) and pinning Kopitar to the boards multiple times (that's 6'3" 225 Anze Kopitar). Who was the last Canuck who could do that?
-
Appatently Travis Green has taken Jake into the video room and shown him exactly this and told him that he has to move his feet. It's a bad habit and will take time to break but I've heard his fitness is improving and he's doing what he's told and getting better. As of now he's 4-2-6 -2 in 17 games. There's a TG interview out there. He speaks well of the prospects but not glowingly.
-
Or expectations. When they said that power forwards often take longer to develop than some others, people just disregard that and start going off on Jakes troubles. He's only 20.
-
Does PL Dubois look dominanat? Shouldn't a 3rd OA pick? He looks like a depth player. Fact is, this is a tournament for 19 and 20 year olds mostly. Development between 17 and 20 is phenomenal.

Was going to post something similar myself. I think JB will take the best centre available in the 1st round. -

Canucks picks in 2017 are: Canucks Canucks, (Columbus 2017 or 2018 in compensation for signing Tortorella) Canucks Canucks - conditional, may go to Edmonton based on Larsen's performance, 4th or 5th Canucks - conditional, may go to Edmonton based on Larsen's performance, 4th or 5th no pick, went to Rangers in Etem trade for Jensen Canucks So as of today, the Canucks likely pick in rounds 1, 2, 3, 4, 7.......5 picks total -
If you call 17-21-38 in 46 games last year dominating. It's pretty good imo. He's like the invisible man with the Canucks though. On a good team, he doesn't get a sniff. In interviews, he has said that he accepts that he's going to have to specialize in a checking role in the NHL so I don't think it has anything to do with how Willie is asking him to play. I don't see a lot of offensive flair from him at all. He is a big body and can get in on the fore check. His hero chart shows that he helps his line mates defensively and offensively but his personal numbers are very low. After 30 games he is 0-4-0 with a 0 +/-. That's a decent sample size as to what they have in Gaunce at this stage. The Canucks top 3 lines have some skill and I think that they want offensive production from all 3 lines. There isn't really a lock down line for a defensive specialist right now. Healthy, they look like this: Sedin Sedin Hansen Granlund Sutter Eriksson Baertschi Horvat Burrows or Rodin I just don't see him as anything but a utility 4th liner at this point. If he would benefit from more minutes, it would have to be in Utica.

I really believe that Virtanen's improvement (and success) will be up to him alone. It's a matter of attitude not being gifted an "opportunity" to play. Jake's improvement will come when he realizes that he needs to work his butt off both on and off the ice. He may also have to learn different tactics like give and go's to be successful at the highest level.
-
Who knows. Willie might have been trying to be funny. Much was made of the comment but I don't think it meant anything at all. There was no real reason for Virtanen to come back. The 3 managers Linden, Benning and Dejardins had to get together to make the final decision on Jake (I guess but couldn't they have just held a conference call?)
