  1. Ferraro talking sense as usual thinks that Hutton goes down. The reason being that if he stays with the Canucks, he won't play much. If he goes down, it'll be better for his development because he'll be top 4 and get all situations (pp, pk etc) and lots of minutes.
  2. ^^^Yes. CDC wants it and they want it NOW. The promise is there, but it's going to take a couple of years.
  3. Copy and paste yer taskbar there Shecky
  4. The Canucks website has updated player profiles as measured at training camp. Horvat is 6'0" 206 Virtanen is 6'1" 208 McCann is 6'0" 179
  5. Virtanen is the prototypical player that Benning wants on the team. Fast, hard to play against, good shot. All of the players that he has selected have these 3 attributes to varying degrees. FWIW "hard to play against" means one of a number of things to me. It can mean physical, mean, tenacious, strong on the puck, stubborn etc.
  6. I think that Vrbata is the next forward to go (at the trade deadline). Moving him will serve the dual purpose of making room and more importantly, bringing a nice asset in return.
  7. Do you really think so? I like his versatility and attitude. The man is core all the way and good for 15-20 goals even if he's not on the top line. If he plays with the Sedins for the whole year I wouldn't be surprised with 25. It remains to be seen how physical Burrows can be after his rib injury. I've heard that there may be lingering effects for some time. I wouldn't say that Burrows has become the liability that Bieksa was at times. I don't think that a Burrows trade would see a particularly good asset coming the other way like we might see with other players.
  8. I don't think we can understate the importance of JV playing 10 games in Utica
  9. gawnch? thought he had a not bad game
  10. Sorry about that. You know what happens when you try to be funny Ya, I think it should be an ongoing thing. It works for every body doesn't it?
  11. West Coast Express 2.0? Naslund Morrison Bertuzzi........Baertschi Vey Virtanen......huh? huh?
  12. That sounds like what Gillis was trying to do; draft the smartest player. How long did it take him to draft a keeper? I'm sure a Psyc student will correct me but they've identified 9 distinct types of intelligence. Athletic (Bodily - kinesthetic) is 1 of them. Scoring well in some, correlates with scoring well in others. But you can score well in some and low in others, like the savant in the movie "Rain Man". 1 Intelligence modalities 1.1 Musical–rhythmic and harmonic 1.2 Visual–spatial 1.3 Verbal–linguistic 1.4 Logical–mathematical 1.5 Bodily–kinesthetic 1.6 Interpersonal 1.7 Intrapersonal 1.8 Naturalistic 1.9 Existential
  13. What's wrong with fighting for a spot? That's the environment that Linden and Benning are trying to create. Let them raise their game and may the best man win. So for right now, they may be fighting against each other for the 1 spot but they're also fighting against roster players for their spots too. If these guys are good enough, if they can show that they're better than players already in the line up, Benning will make room. Benning has shown that he is willing to do that and that's exactly why he wants players on one year contracts.
  14. Jake will be on the team when he earns a spot if they're being honest about developing players the right way.
  15. True, he played well at camp in Lake Placid. He will likely be on the team.
  16. I know some Russians from work. Apparently the lower mainland community is pretty strong 100,000+ and they have their own newspaper etc. It's a long way from home but there are plenty of native Russian speakers here.
  17. I saw this on twitter earlier. How's his English? Is this a case of hanging on to life in Mother Russia and Mom's home cooking or is the money too good in the KHL?
  18. Jake seems to understand that they need him to up his fitness. He has lost almost 20 lbs since joining the Comets for the playoffs. This is a good sign. Jake has the physical play to make the team. This is not the issue. What they need to know is if he is mentally ready to play. Does he understand the game at an NHL level and does he have the emotional strength to handle the daily grind?
  19. Interesting that Horvat projected to be the shut down centre of the future, and now JB goes out and finds a good shut down guy in Sutter and extends him for 5 years. Obviously, Horvat's stock has risen. Is Cole Cassels now redundant?
  20. 3 beauties and WE drafted him : :D thanks for the post
  21. Hang on. One of my wishes over the summer was to pick up a big physical D because Calgary exposed them for their lack of size and grit on the back end in the play offs. Am I dreaming? This is why Benning has said that he wanted to add puck movers. Not because he doesn't believe in having some beef to clear traffic in front of the net but because puck movers are the next best thing and they're attainable.
  22. For all of you who are calling for a bona fide sniper. Maybe we have him already. I know, it's Button's opinion but from the highlights I've seen he looks pretty good.
  23. I think that Jake has a better shot at making the Canucks since Kassian has been moved. But he's going to have to duke it out with Grenier for the 4th line spot. I think that physically, he won't have a problem. He proved that in the play offs for the Comets although his point production was low. The other part that nobody talks about is his personal maturity. I really couldn't say, but he has to be ready in both of these aspects to be successful.
  24. Agreed, you have to look at the person. Benning is looking for high hockey IQ, character, hard to play against and Boeser checks those boxes. Don't forget, he has overcome personal adversity and has continued to excel. The term *cohorts* in this sense is jargon but I take it to mean comparable players and if so, I think that you can only use them in a general sense. Real people are much more complicated than that.
