  1. I think that there's more going on than we know. First of all, both sides signed non-disclosure agreements wrt various reports on the state of the present RCMP in Surrey and their ability to deploy a sufficient force. So there's that. Also, there's talk that there are plans to make the RCMP more of a national force like the FBI in the US. So within a decade, the RCMP would no longer be involved in municipal policing at all. So they can bring in a municipal force now or in a decade or so. At an immediate level, the RCMP is understaffed in Surrey and understaffed in BC and also nationally. It's a matter of demographics. There are more Mounties retiring than graduating from the academy. How on earth are they going to raise staffing levels in Surrey without taking away from other jurisdictions? The fact is, the Provincial Govt is responsible to assure that whatever Police force that is installed in any municipality can maintain a sufficient standard of Policing. This is made clear in the Police Act. So what Farnworth has done is well within the law.
  2. Nice summary @CRAZY_4_NAZZY informative. I'm most interested to see what happens on the back end with Abby and Vancouver. We saw some nice work from Wolanin, Juulson, Brisebois and Hirose coming down the stretch in Vancouver. They were filling in but it looked like successful tryouts to me. Now, of course, Hronek, Soucy, Cole and Irwin have been added. Does this force the above back down to Abby? You would have to think so. Brisebois (turns 26 on July 21) has a new 2 year contract, the 2nd year is 1-way. Juulson and Wolanin both earned 2 year, 2-way contracts with healthy minor league salaries. Irwin is on a similar contract but for only 1 year. So they're all players of interest to the Canucks with contracts that will keep them from looking towards Europe at the very least. The only thing that these 4 young players don't offer is size (weight) and grit. 6 foot, 200 lb Jett Woo does play with some grit and signed to a 1 year 2-way contract after a better AHL season. Woo still has no NHL games after his 3rd year of pro.
  3. Bob Cole couldn't remember the names but he was a master of making the game exciting. It's all in the tone of voice. The rest doesn't matter
  4. Hasn't been the same since Dave Hodge was the lead. Bring him back!
  5. You haven't noticed the backlash against wokeism? I would like to see them hire a panel based on merit. Let's see the best. Botterill is there for diversity. I guess she's coming along but she's the weak link on the panel. So is Amber tbh but he's a decent lead. If they're getting rid of McLean, that's a good thing. He jumped the shark before Cherry. I really hope they don't wreck it. HNIC is an institution since 1931 on radio and 1952 on TV
  6. Agree, it's bad enough churning thru free agents but giving up assets like draft picks on a hope and a prayer is something else
  7. If you look for him on Cap Friendly, he's listed on LTIR. If he turns out to not be cleared it's a fool hardy move. I thought Bear was safe until he is pronounced healthy. Is it likely that he gets snapped up as a free agent healthy or not?
  8. True enough but you can't let what you paid for a player in the past affect future decisions Does a healthy Dermott make the Canucks this year? Do they sign Cole or Soucy if he was healthy all along? They are part of the Canucks desire to get bigger especially on the back end. Although Dermott is listed at 6'0" 205 It does seem as though Benning especially, rolled through a lot of players on what looked like a trial and error basis. Do other teams turn over so many bottom 6 and bottom pair players? I don't remember it happening to this degree. I get that the present regime is turning over players in an effort to bring in non-core players who better suit their vision. [I certainly hope that is what they're doing and not Bennings "chuck spaghetti against the wall and hope it sticks" approach]
  9. Look, Zadina hasn't been playing well and he refuses to play in the AHL. This isn't Yzerman's fault. He's betting on himself because nobody would have him on his old contract that had 2 years remaining: $1.8M and $2.7M (1.8 cap hit) so he's signed with next years worst team in the league. You guy's weren't nearly as charitable on another former 6 OA pick who stunk and is now playing for the Fischtown Pinguins Odds are, Zadina joins his old buddy Jake in Fischtown after Christmas
  10. *Conditions: Detroit has the option to send their own or Boston's 2024 1st round picks. In the event the Bruins' 2024 first-round selection is a top-10 pick, Boston can retain the pick and transfer their 2025 1st round pick instead. Detroit will then have the option of sending Boston's 2025 unprotected 1st or their own 2024 1st to Ottawa.
  11. Sounds about right. He had a $9M QO, the 2 time 41 goal scorer fell off with the Sens to only 27-39-66 points and -31 in 82 games
  12. It's not whether Tavares deserves his contract. He does. The issue with the Leafs is that their cap structure is poor. When they only had Matthews, Marner and Nylander at the top of the line up, they were pushing it with 3 very large contracts and then Dubas added Tavares which sealed their fate.
  13. Agree Bob. Allvin has done what he set out to do. The D has been overhauled and he has a 3C. The PK will be much better. It remains to be seen how much better they will really be. I can be over optimistic but I am sure there are other improvements to be made. This is enough for one year imo. When too much is done at once, there tends to be a long adjustment period
  14. Karlsson is 33 with 4 years remaining on his contract. Even at 50% retained, that's a big hit for a player with some hard miles on his body and there's no telling when he'll loose his legs
  15. To be fair, last summer OEL injured his foot in the worlds and wasn't properly prepared for camp. Now if you're not fit in camp it's really hard to catch up for any player and if you're older it's damn near impossible. This is the argument at least why OEL had such a crappy year last year. The biggest problem with Ekman-Larson was that his CONTRACT SUCKS. or sucked rather. And Florida brass knows all about contracts that suck don't they Lou? I wish them luck with OEL. It's a gamble but they've only signed him for a year.
  16. I expected them to let Kravstov go but apparently, he's going back to Russia to play and qualifying him gives them control should he wish to come back within 3 years (correct me if I'm wrong on the time frame)
  17. Ya, Boston University. Good move
  18. Does anybody think that Toews would sign with a "team like this"?
  19. Allvin got rid of the worst contract on the Canucks. Yeah!!! He's going to be looking for a top 4 LHD to replace him. This means that Myers will be on the team next season. Another bad contract. 2nd worst if you ask me but only for 1 more year. Finding 2 top 4 D in 1 offseason and a 3C would take more cap than they have. Doing any more than this would be a bonus.
  20. Bettman "cancels" specialty jersey to avoid a woke shit storm that may "cancel" the NHL
