  1. Most good teams have 6 players making $5M or better. Some have up to 8. Any more and they're fooling around with LTIR to fit under the cap like Vegas. Pittsburgh has only 4 players north of $5M (Crosby, Malkin, Letang, Guentzel) The Canucks have 8 players at $5M or better. There are clearly some issues as Myers doesn't bring value and OEL, while worth more than 5, isn't good value at north of 7 Bottom line, if they're going to have a better D corps, they're going to have to move at least 1 big number and if they're going to have cap flexibility, more than 1 so take your pick from the list. Hughes 7.85 Pettersson 7.35 OEL 7.26 Myers 6.0 Boeser ? Horvat 5.5 Miller 5.25 Demko 5.0 HM....Garland 4.95 For my money, only the bare bones core should be making more than 7 (Hughes, Pettersson, Demko) but Demmer is on a sweetheart deal. Long term, something needs to be done about OEL (but it's not urgent because of Demko is down for 5.0 for the next 4 years). Boeser is not a player who should be north of 7 and neither is Miller. Myers is a problem because he shouldn't even be on the list. This year, I can see them moving on Miller and Myers and possibly on Garland. Boeser only if they can't sign him at 6. That will give them the ability to bring in a really good defenseman and still have some wiggle room with the cap. They're still going to try to land a grade A RHD prospect like Schneider from the Rangers who is still at a low cap hit as part of a deal for one of the above players.
  2. Is Dickinson injured? I see he only played 5 mins last game
  3. I don't think he was over hyped. He did really well in junior and was such a battler. We saw the real issue with him in his one game with the big club. He's not big and he doesn't play big so the very top of the net is open and that was taken advantage of by NHL shooters. He gets away with that a little bit in lesser leagues.
  4. One thing they say about Allvin, he's thorough. He's running "what if" scenario's past other GM's. It doesn't necessarily mean a trade but it might lead to one. What if we shop Myers? How much retained would make him valuable to other teams? What's the expected return? etc etc There's only 1 way to find out the answers to these questions. By asking NHL GM's
  5. Not at $6M he isn't It's possible to move Myers with a healthy amount retained. Myers to wherever with $2-3M retained? I can see a market for that.

  7. I'm with you. I want to see the Canucks win and play to their potential but I know evaluations are going on and moves are coming. This is what I'm excited about tbh. How does the new regime see the team and what moves do they make to take the Canucks to the next level.
  8. What's worse, I don't see the other players raking in points either
  9. This talk about trades is media and fan driven. All I've heard from management is that they're evaluating and that is 100% what they should be doing. We all know that moves are coming but they need to be the right ones. We all know that they need a 3C. Rutherford said he can work with the defense. I think that moves on the back end are also required. Also on the bottom 6. But to make all of the moves that are required could take a couple of years.
  10. Yes, when the 1st unit power play sets up, Petey is always in the same spot on the right for the 1 timer. Once teams figured out that he had such a good shot, they always have a player in front of him to prevent it. In theory, this would open up ice for the other players on the left side
  11. As long as they're playing meaningful games, you get the benefit of: Evaluation Development of young players So until they're out of the race, nothing gets done. We have plenty of time until the trade deadline and if they're shipping a larger contract out, it's easier to do (ie more teams in the mix) in the offseason. JR hasn't tipped his hand but at the same time, he has let us in on his thinking process and as HKSR said above, if they get an offer they can't refuse (that fits the plan) then they may just take it.
