  1. Ha ha, we went around this once before. Sorry, I need to get used to your new handle. Cheers, Deb
  2. Miller is a force who is in his prime right now. One can easily argue that we should have these types of players while the core is still in its ascendency. However, the trade Miller camp, those who get it would say that we have him at $5.25M while he is in his prime which is a bargain but he is the top point getter on the team this year and when he is up for contract renewal next year, he will no longer be such a bargain and he will be 30 at the end of next season, will want term and a lot of money and he won't be getting better. If we look at the big picture with this team, they need a top 4 RHD and will have to move a good player to get one. As we have seen with Myers, free agency can result in overpayment so that is not a good route for a high end player. If they move a good player, who are the candidates? Miller is at the top of the list as a player who could get us a really good player. It's the time to sell high. I'm not advocating, just stating the argument.
  3. This is why I would never pay money to see the Leafs play in Vancouver. There are so many people in this city who have moved out from Toronto and they want to see the team they grew up with. It's natural but I can't stand being out cheered in my own building. Sorry Juice, that's the real reason why we hate the Leafs and all things Toronto.
  4. AHL player for AHL player Habs get a goalie who they hope can play in return for a 26 year old with 1 NHL game who has hit his ceiling.
  5. except for Chychrun and Keller the poor schmucks
  6. You're probably right about Poolman and Hamonic. Hamonic is a game time decision v the Leafs so we'll see. He has been mostly ok when healthy but I can't describe how I feel about the other nonsense that kept him out of the line up for the longest time. Can Hamonic be an actual #4 when healthy? My God I hope so. That would be one less massive piece of the puzzle to fill. In hindsight, I think that Benning's pro scouting intel was based on how certain players were doing years ago, if not, in Junior before they were drafted. Clearly JR is insisting on a full pro scouting dept as well as an amateur scouting dept. Welcome to the big leagues Francesco
  7. Chaos Giraffe, that's pretty good. He's fine until he finds himself out of position then he skates like Bambi You are right though, this isn't what Benning planned when he picked up OEL. Both he and Hughes need partners who play a defense first game. The difference will be striking because we have seen in the last 2 games how good OEL can be. The 3rd pair can be made up of Rathbone, Buroughs, Juulson, Schenn moving forward
  8. Good for you for starting a thread like this. It takes balls to call out favorite players. You should expect to get flamed though. That first period may have been the worst period the Canucks have played this season. Plus the bounces were going the wrong way. No excuses though. I give them credit for bouncing back in the 2nd. It has been a pretty crappy year. The players all must know that management is doing evaluations now. Changes are coming and nobody knows how deep they are going to be. Most of us are happy with the bare bones core (Demko, Hughes, Petey). I'd like to see Boeser, Horvat, Garland, Podkolzin, Hoglander and Schenn stick around but some of these guys may be moved. I am resigned to losing Miller and can see the logic of it. We may be taking a step back in order to step forward. I can deal with that if I can see there is a viable plan moving forward. Now, if they only win 1 more game this year, let it be Saturday at 4:00 pm against the Leafs Go Canucks Go!!
  9. There is actually a school of thought where they hire people who are smart but don't really know the job because you get out of the box thinking. Maybe this is what Rutherford is up to. AGM's to my mind are staffers who head up the departments that do the work of the organization. I guess an AGM title in Rutherfords organization gets you a chair at the round table. It's really a VP position. Like what they gave Yzerman while he learned the ropes
  10. No, but Benning's "apprenticeship" is typical. Not commenting on him as a GM. If you have a degree yourself, you will know that there is a difference between what you do in school and what you do in practice. Although being able to remember concepts and apply them is invaluable. Having a degree is no guarantee of being able to do that. In the real world, experience is everything and having a degree is a nice to have and may get you promoted. If she has great potential, hire her and teach her the ropes. Don't put her in charge of Scouting and Player Development. Her underlings (Ryan Johnson?) will spoon feed her and hope that she makes the right decisions. Behind her back they will be pissed off and probably look for work elsewhere. She's looking at a giant learning curve.
  11. No it doesn't. Less than 2 years as a pro scout after a playing career does not cut it. Benning spent 4 years as a scout, 5 years as director of amateur scouting before being promoted to AGM. This is a typical progression imo She is hardly more qualified than the Sedins who don't really do anything officially as far as i can tell. They're doing it the right way. Don't get me wrong, I am all for women getting management jobs in the NHL. Any form of affirmative action however is a recipe for disaster. She's smart, great. She's got a degree, great. She has potential. Hire her as a scout. Even a chief scout is a stretch. She's walking in to the big leagues 4 rungs up the management ladder with NO management experience. Being a scout is not being a manager.
  12. Granato is pretty light on management experience. A couple of years as a scout with Seattle. She is a Hockey Hall of Fame inductee (2010) for her playing career and post hockey she has been mostly a broadcaster. I'm not sure what qualifies her as AGM to be honest.
