  1. Just the Miller trade. The Chychrun trade creates cap inefficiencies. We're fine on LHD and having $7,2M on the 3rd pair doesn't work. They can be looking for another RHD when Myers contract is expiring in a couple of years. FWIW both Myers and OEL will be very difficult to move because they are bad value
  2. So much of sport (and many other things for that matter) is between the ears
  3. Petey just needs to work on his core strength and get his mojo back. I also think he shouldn't try to play a physical game. He's not built for it. He can get in the way like the Sedin's used to but that's the extent of it. When you strip the core down to it's bare bones, you have Petey on the list. Don't give up on him. (Demko, Petey, Hughes.... that's what you build your team around)
  4. Interesting thought. Maybe he'll do better if the onus is on him to carry a line. I've always felt that he needs a tough winger to take the physical burden off of him. Petey strikes me as a guy who has some fight in his heart and he's been more physical the last little while but just doesn't have the physique for it. 6'2" and 176.... the lad is a bean pole. Petey is better as a centre for sure.
  5. Fascinated by the Oilers because everybody loves a train wreck. Can't stand how McDavid has become so entitled. I'm thinking of how he stopped playing because he expected a penalty to be called after the check from behind in the last game. Puke I used to have a soft spot for the Flames but the last 5 years or so not. Hate the present version
  6. Ya, MacKinnon is another parallel I've heard mentioned, he had some so so years after an impressive 63 point rookie year before he broke out with 97 points in his 5th season. For the record, Petey started off with 66 points in each his first 2 seasons
  7. My speculation but to be sure, there will be moves that people don't like. Rutherford and Allvin have permission to do what needs to be done to take this team to the next level. Benning was clearly floundering and the Rutherford team have proved that they know how to take a team to the next level.
  8. Miller would get several assets in return so I would suggest that he could be used to fill holes in the lineup like RHD and the 3C. So more of a hockey trade with similar cap going each way. I wouldn't be surprised to see Garland go for a 2nd and nothing else. The real ruturn being cap relief.
  9. Full and accurate thumb nail analysis of the whole team. Bottom line, the only viable moves are Miller and Garland.
  10. There are a couple of things that Rutherford has been talking about cap space filling holes in the line up I think that long term, they're heavy on forwards and light on D. I don't think that this is unusual. I can't tell which he would address first but he has said that cap space give a team the flexibility to make deals. So maybe that's what they'll try to do first. Cap flexibility. Ironic that Benning was stuck on maxing out his use of the cap.
  11. I think a lot have missed what Rutherford said which was that Allvin will be making the decisions with respect to trades and moving this team forward. The good news is that the real lean years are behind us and that the core is essentially in place. For sake of argument, people have identified the bare bones core as Demko, Hughes and Petey. So if Allvin is making the call on trades, he's going to need some time to evaluate the team. If he's as thorough as they say, I would expect this to consist of the Canucks players, Abbotsford players and all other players in the system. This is ok because the soonest he needs to do anything is the trade deadline and of course major trades are easier to make in the offseason. Rutherford has also said that there are holes in the line up and I would expect at least some of them to be filled by August. He has also said that trying to make deals is a lot easier if you have some cap flexibility. I would expect both of these things to happen.
  12. I couldn't help but smile today when Drance was calling Jim Rutherford the real Trader Jim. As if he expects him to start wheeling and dealing any minute. Seriously Drance? At the recent press conference introducing Patrik Allvin, Trader Jim said right out that the new GM would be making all such decisions. Trader Jim is now Advisor Jim or Sounding Board Jim We have been hearing that Allvin is careful and thorough and welcomes discussion (and disagreement) from his staff because better decisions are made through debate and discussion. Does anybody really think that any rash decisions will be made by this regime? I expect decisions to be well considered, measured and smart.
  13. Yep. How long have you been watching hockey? It's a frosty Friday when one team gets all the stars whether they deserve it or not. I think it has happened more in recent years having said that
  14. It's one thing to draft or inherit great players. Look at Edmonton. But it's another to surround a core with the right players to win a cup. Rutherford became GM in Pitts back in 2014, Cup wins 2016 and 2017
  15. We have all these people with their microscopes out and criticizing Allvin and all the Pens management for their drafting and development but look, the Pen's haven't missed the playoffs since 2004-5. That's a full long hockey generation folks even as the core is getting long in the tooth. Malkin (35) was drafted in 2004, Crosby and Letang, both 34, 2005. There have been 3 cups in this period. How did they do it? If Rutherford thinks that Allvin is his man, I'm willing to trust his judgement.
  16. The NHL has always punished the result rather than the act. This is the first actual injury at Dell's hands I believe.
  17. You guys are pathetic. New GM and all you can do is slag him. Give us a break
