  1. Ya but they're doing it ass backwards. They need to hire a Pres or GM (whatever is going to be the top operations job) who would do all the hiring and set up the organization properly. This way, the coach is the owner's pick and the new GM has no authority over him. Unless Boudreau is temporary
  2. This is all interim imo. Captain Frank couldn't have the chanting any longer. These guys were going anyways, let's cut them loose, hire a coach and let Gear and Johnston mind the store in the mean time. Buys them some time to make the real decisions. Oh brother!
  3. The Oilers are a great comparable. They didn't turn it around until they fired Chirelli and hired Holland. A strong leader at the helm is what they really need. We can't fire the owner which is where the problem really lies but if they hire a strong GM who insists on having the authority to do the right thing and will stand up to an owner to keep the team on the right course, only then will the Canucks see success.
  4. This is just it. I don't think that the core really was ready to carry the torch on their own. Horvat is the oldest at 26 and is a pretty strong willed guy. He has been playing close enough to his normal level i think but he has more defensive duties than they wanted him to have due to Bennings over reliance on Sutter to be the PK face off guy. Demko has been good too. Hughes has been leaned on heavily as well and is playing better. Pettersson just doesn't look like himself and neither does Boeser. I would also expect more from Hoglander but I've heard that his metrics are really good despite his lacklustre production. Others have been slumping as well: Pearson, Dickinson etc and Hamonic's issues haven't helped a bit. I don't know what ownership is going to do about this. Maybe nothing. I mean, when you have such turnover shouldn't you expect a long adjustment period? But no matter what gets done or not done it's going to take time to get it together as a team again. Nobody's really talking about that. It's mostly people trying to lay the blame at somebody's feet and wanting to punish that person.
  5. I think you're right. From now going forward, I think it's more a case of finding players who fit with the personality of the team. I've been criticizing Benning as being dumb to the room. Not knowing his players and who they give a $&!# about. He has let a bunch slip thru his fingers who were important to the group in the last couple of years and the team looks diminished. If you look at the line up from the bubble vs the line up today, is it really any better? In some aspects it is and in others not so much and his drafted core suffers as players who they have bonded with are cast by the wayside. I'm really pissed at Benning. I used to think that he understood these things. Well, clearly he doesn't. It's going to take a smarter man to take the Canucks to the next level.
  6. Hire the best GM available. As long as ownership let's them run the show without interference, we'll be golden. That's a big ask with this owner
  7. These are the Aqui-loonies. Serioulsy Phil, you've been around the block
  8. Do some players not want to play in a Canadian market and be subject to living in a fish bowl? We've been saying this for years so don't act like it isn't a thing. The media has been going thru a lot of changes in recent years. Gone are the reliable salaries that came from working for newspapers. Media types have had to reinvent themselves in order to continue making a living. Much of it is based on getting clicks on social media. Gone are the days when reporters were trained journalists who's work was subject to review by an editor. Many of the members of the media are completely untrained. The media also has been kept apart from direct interveiws with players. Today, there are press conferences staged post game. So the relationships that used to be part of the business just don't exist in the same way. Players often say that they don't pay attention to the media or social media but in reality, it is very hard to live in a bubble away from it. When you have such competition among members of the media, and scoops are such a big deal to them, it is not surprising that they will act upon rumours from "trusted sources" and print stories without proper vetting and verification. So many, a few days later are shown to be false.
  9. FWIW Gaudette is a right hand shot but has a 41% career face off %
  10. This was no fish hook. Lemieux bit the heel of each hand. So there was more than 1 bite. He's getting an in person hearing so they're planning on more than 5 games
  11. FA hasn't made big management moves without a replacement selected already. Here's hoping he's doing exactly that right now. Is this why Montreal is clambering for a Bergevin replacement?
  12. Ya, that's exactly what a team that doesn't have a strong room needs. Oh my God Jim! Don't do it!
  13. That's right. Moves are so often dictated by opportunity. Last year he had 3 lefties (including Miller) and 2 righties. So he moved Beagle and replaced him with another leftie. That's hoping that Sutter remained healthy and pretty short sighted.
  14. Even a blind squirrel finds a nut from time to time
  15. It was dumb luck. Benning comes from the spaghetti school. He chucks it at the wall and hopes it sticks.
  16. Doctors have patients. Canuck fans, well they should maybe have their heads examined
