Need a 2nd wave of youth on elc's. We push for playoffs Miller walks UFA or we sign him to a ghastly contract and we have no money left for Bo. 1 step fwd 2 back.

    vs

Trade Miller fill the cupboards draft high this year take a step back to take 2 forward.

the teams that want miller are going to have 1st round pick around  20-32 and prospects  i don't see that as filling the cupboards .  We are not trading miller and getting a top 5 pick  out of it  . i rather trade Bo and get the same 1st round pick  and a prospect and slap the C on Miller . I like BO but if a culture change is needed Bo could be the one to go .

I'm not saying don't fire Green, but I hear so many fans complaining about Green's system without actually explaining (a) what they think Green's "system" is and (b) what they think is wrong with it. It is like "system" has just become some buzzword that everyone uses.

green system is get  the puck in the offensive zone  pass back to the point and shoot  then skate back to the dzone chasing another 2-1 back or stand around in a static position then the  fire drill happens where the canucks get gassed chasing .

There ya go - discussion points! I like it. That was the whole point of the topic.

    1. Yes - this is accurate! That's why my point was "they've probably got the best chances of picking 1st in 2022 and 2023". We'd have no chance of trading for the 1OA once the spot has been confirmed in either of those two drafts - Wright and Beard being generational talents, it just wouldn't make any sense to trade once the spot has solidified. But.. I wanted some thoughts from folks on a. the odds of Buffalo picking 1st in either of those two drafts, and b. the desire Buffalo may have for stars that can play now, rather than entering yet another rebuild.

    2. Sedins?- Nope I'm wrong - we got the #2 and #3 overall, and made a deal so we could get the Sedins

I didn't make this post with a specific trade in mind - rather, in what circumstances might it make sense to acquire the 1st rounders from the team that's most likely to pick 1st in two drafts that will have generational talents.

i believe during all the wheeling and dealing for the sedins we did acquire the 1st overall pick and traded down

Gads is actually pretty fast in a straight line; it’s his first couple steps that are slow.  He makes up for his lack of quickness though with smarts.  I think he could definitely play with Petey and Bess.

Hes not slow.  His skating is nhl level.  Hes just not going to blow anyone away

he still needs to work on his skating, he has the smarts and the size but needs to get faster to be more effective

  6. no no and no   keep the picks and lockwood  we need as many cheap elc as we can get , lockwood is a great bottom six  , hopefully we can get a scoring winger with size or dman in the draft , besides that you will be available to get a dman for a pick ala schimdt

    Understandable but...

Canucks gave up on McCann, Hodgson, Grabner among others I am sure quite early on their careers. It is a risk for sure, especially us swapping 1sts as part of the deal, I would NOT want us to do that but it might be something JB does to secure the deal if he truly believes in Patrick as a hockey player going forward

the canucks didnt give up on hodgson  lol  crybady cody  and his dad booked that ticket out of town

So you really not know the answer to that?

of course i do know the answer . the other poster said schimdt should only be picked up by a contending team  not a rebuilding team , hence the question   then why did  vegas a contending  team  trade him then ,     so does that make any sense  ? no   lol

Not entirely the same thing though. I am talking about filling the bottom 6 roles for a few years at the time ratger than wastibg cap signing those overpriced guys for 4 year terms. And accumulating picks and prospects for cap dumps, not paying picks outright for cap relief players.

He took on a 6 mil cap player with multiple years left on it and yes only paid a 3rd but didnt accumulate assets. He got a good player but thats a long term contract that may end up pretty ugly. Thats a move a contender makes to add to their team, not a team that is rebuilding.

Had he not also signed Myers the Schmidt deal would have made more sense.

I liked the trade though as I like Schmidt

well schimdt is an asset  for a 3rd round pick  .  really so why did a contending team like vegas  trade Schimdt  then ?

Like I have said, what he does this offseason will give a very good indication of just how much he has learned and whether he can see his past mistakes as actually being mistakes.

Thats kind of my point. You dont overpay for stop gap players.

Hecoukd have accomplished the same thing saving his cap he spent on those guys and trading for a similar player plus additional picks/prospects from a csp strapped team.

you mean kinda like schimdt for a 3rd rounder ,because vegas needed cap space??    seems like benning has learned
