Mike Tyson set to make comeback against Roy Jones Jr.
Lancaster replied to cuporbust's topic in Off-Topic General
The commentators were pretty funny. One of them mentioned that the fight reminds him of 2 uncles fighting at a family BBQ or something, lol. Overall.... it wasn't a good match. You kept expecting Tyson to really throw his signature power punch, but never came. The novelty was kind of fun.... I mean the last match I saw Tyson was his match against Holyfield and has already been 20 years now. Even still... I would have been very pissed if I paid for PPV. -
When I think of sports, I think of a competition where you can practice and improve physically through repetition, whether the increase is in strength, accuracy, etc. For example, lifting weights can improve your score in golf, baseball and even bowling. But no matter if you can only lift 5 lbs or lift 500 lbs... it's not going to make a difference for chess or poker. Darts and pool I would consider as a sport, as you need to harness your physical ability to pull of whatever shot or throw.

Their permit for mining got denied. Would have been the largest gold/copper mine in the US or something. -

As a long-term holder of NDM.... -
I remember watching some video online and it was showing the average earning in different regions in the US.... like where wages are going up/down and by how much. Most of the US is relatively stagnant.... with the exception of DC and the surround area where people who work at DC also lived. Household income in those areas were like increasing 10%+ annually or something. Sometimes I wonder about the same thing in Canada.... and I wonder how much is it. The political class and their associates are more or less recreating the old feudal system.

Depending on region and each tax policy on region. In the GVRD, there are: Provincial motor fuel tax B.C.'s carbon tax The B.C. Transportation Finance Authority tax TransLink tax Federal excise tax The extra hands in our collective pockets makes gas prices double/triple what it was less than 20 years ago.
-
They'll just adjust what's in the basket. Kind of like how gas and rent aren't part of CPI, thus the government can keep telling people that inflation is low and everybody is better off then 10-20 years ago. Yet back when I had my first car and was looking at rental units at the West End.... it was like 0.50L for gas and $400/month for a 1BR right off Pacific Avenue. Now gas 3x is $1.20-1.50/L and 1BR at the West End is probably 5x at least $2000/month. The government still say that inflation has always been low.

A currency doesn't exist in a vacuum, it is competing against other global currencies like the US dollar, British Pound, EU Euro, Japanese Yen, etc. Canada could start the printing press and give everyone a million dollars... but it creates inflationary pressure. Money isn't wealth.... money is just a representation of wealth. So if the Canadian government issues a $1 million to every single person in Canada, everyone doesn't become the 1%. Money is a representation of a nation's wealth. Eg. Doubling up Canada's currency doesn't mean it gets twice as rich. GDP stays the same, economic output remains the same, population level stays the same.... so a Canadian dollar will just worth 50% as much as before since fundamentally nothing changed, either than just labels. Examples of countries deciding to just print money non-stop.... Zimbawbe: and one that had a huge impact on the world... Weimar Germany: This probably worth less than even Monopoly money.

With 2 kids under 3.... both have gone out and played/socialized way less than they would have without coronavirus. I still send my son to preschool and he has improved developmentally way more than if he didn't go. I hear lots of parents not sending their kids to school/preschool/daycare or even just playdates. It's pretty much a fact that kids learn better with peers, especially so for younger ages. I wonder what impact the CCP-virus will have on the youngest kids going forward. 1 to 2 years of potentially more limited growth.... how will these children score in 5-10-15 years time?

It's about international agreements. If it was Sweden asking for an extradition, should Canada assist? Or should Canada just kowtow to any country more powerful? Rules, regulations, agreement has to be blind... can't just go, "Oh, this involves the Chinese... so let it slide..." Canada is a nation of laws, not special treatment. So far, Meng is being processed under Canadian law without any political interference. If she doesn't get extradited, she will be on her merry way. If she gets sent down, then GTFO. The same rules applies regardless of what country is involved. If Canada bends now, then Canada should just lube up and take it from every other country. Canada is rightfully standing up now against a bully, to do anything less would be un-Canadian.
-
So alternatively, some criminal flees Canada to any other country in the world, like the US, and we shouldn't bother extraditing them back? I mean.... Canada should just arrest that person themselves, right? It's funny you would call the US authoritarian.... I mean, if Meng goes south, she should be afforded the best legal defense she can mount. Whereas actual authoritarian regimes like China, actually kidnaps dual citizens and even foreigners and force confessions from them without any legal or consular assistance. You're not a fan of the US, but lets not exaggerate things, there is no comparison.
-
That's a bad precedent. Pretty much every time China wants something, they could just kidnap a couple of Canadian with bogus charges.

I wouldn't order medicine from Amazon either. Nothing wrong with Amazon, but it's pretty much just a reseller for the most part. It would be like buying medicine from eBay. Unless they are operating an actual pharmacy business nowadays... -

What I find kind of interesting.... In my work, I get to see the accounts of many clients.... some of them hold Moderna and has gotten massive gains, like 10x. The weird part.... they've held the stock back in 2018 or even before that. I'm just wondering how (any) pharmaceutical company is able to develop a vaccine so quickly for a new illness. -
It makes you put things into perspective. NHL players are absolutely the top 1% of all hockey players in the entire world. Being the top 5% means you're fighting for an AHL/KHL/ECHL/etc. Whenever some question if NHL players should be getting as much money as they do... they are at the pinnacle of their field, the same as the top 1% of CEOs, top 1% of surgeons, movies stars, musicians, etc.

I personally can care less if it's a woman or not. I just want the best person for the job.... whether it's some white dude from the Prairies, some woman from Djibouti, or some random whatever from Xenu. Just get whoever will get results and win us the Stanley Cup.

Remote workers should be taxed for privilege...
Lancaster replied to aGENT's topic in Off-Topic General
Taxed for WFH? Sure.... only after we receive every single tax exemption/deduction there is out there. Tax deductions: rent/mortgage, property taxes, utilities, depreciation of assets (computers, furniture, etc), depreciation of property, cellphones expenses, etc. -
To be a very good defensive player, you really need to excel in at least 1 facet of the game..... overall brute strength, fast skating to fore/backcheck, or very smart positioning. Bo has a high degree of all 3, Pettersson with speed and positioning.... Gaudette seems lacking in all 3. Not saying he's useless defensively, but he's not the quickest guy on the ice and he's a very very light player. How light? Lets just say that Elias Pettersson is heavier than Adam Gaudette. Hockey IQ can only go so far if you can't physically do what's required (eg. Cody Hodgson). I still rather see Gaudette as a winger to let him focus on offense, then leave the defensive work for Sutter.

Safe to say Hughes is on the same level as Dahlin now?
Lancaster replied to cuporbust's topic in Canucks Talk
They're all different types of defensemen. I wouldn't want Hughes or Makar on the ice when protecting a lead in the final minutes of a game, but I would with Dahlin and Heiskanen. I would rather have Makar and Hughes on the ice trying to get the next goal. Makar and Heiskanen are both dangerous on the blue line as they can both shoot the puck as well as pass. Dahlin has a hard shot too, but Hughes is significantly weaker than his peers. Hughes is a bit more subtle in driving offense. He create lots of room for others, he has elite passing skills, he's able to skate along the blue line very proficiently, etc. -
I've never been religious. Never raised in one, but while I don't believe in one, tragedies tends to change your opinions about it. I don't believe in the afterlife.... but I'm somewhat hoping that I will be proven wrong, that when my time is up, my daughter will be there waiting for me.
