Now EP is going to get a call from his sponsor.... lol

As what I've always said about Edler... he can play like a #1 defenseman... when he isn't expected to be the #1 guy. He played some of his best hockey when was the #2 shutdown guy, when players like Ohlund, Mitchell, and Hamhuis were the primary shutdown defenseman. He also played some of his best hockey when was the #2 offensive guy, when Ehrhoff and Salo were the primary threats from the blueline. Since the current roster is significantly stronger than recent years, he seems to play a bit more relaxed and confident... like he doesn't have to struggle to carry the team on his shoulders.

Edmonton can't keep up this pace... Colorado can

With the Canucks on a 5 on 3 PK... then Bo stealing the puck and scoring on a breakaway for the championship clinching goal -
Just skimming online, it appears that players can start withdrawing at age 45 at a reduced amount or full amount at age 62 (similar concept to the CPP). Brashear is currently age 47... so it could be that he's just working a bit at Timmy's in the meantime to get to a certain age that can provide the retirement income that he finds sufficient. As for your point about bad investments.... apparently quite common for pro-athletes. I mean Sergei Fedorov's financial advisor embezzled $43 million from him. I hate the whole nanny state concept... but perhaps the NHL or the PA should be mandating financial planning/management courses for all players. Perhaps even providing a "go-to" list of advisors that has been vetted and approved or something.

They all face the same issues too.... Muslim extremists.

Like him or hate him.... but it was nice when Trump trolled the Chinese by calling him "Emperor" Xi.

When McCann was with the Canucks, he did pass the eyeball test better than Virtanen. He has very decent speed with or without the puck, he backchecked, and he competed hard. If he was an extra inch or two taller and 30 pounds heavier, he would be easily be pushed to be a top-6 centre... and JV would have been the one packing his bags.

To be fair, he was 18 years old at the time. A young guy suddenly becoming a celebrity in a Canadian city via being an NHL player, with loads of cash, and probably young ladies flocking to be around him. Seems more like, he just needs time to mature rather than him being a cancer to a locker room.

I remember the Canucks having about 6 top-4 defenseman during the mid-2000's. Ohlund, Salo, Bieksa, Edler, Miller, Mitchell. They didn't do as well as expected. If the bottom pairing guys are legit top-4, you still gotta pay them top-4 money. When games are tight, you have to got to have your workhorses. Not saying you should get AHLers for bottom pairing, but the recipe for success has always been having elite defensemen (easier said than done) rather than just very very strong group as a whole.

I would have assumed that he could have gotten some hockey related gig. Like a scout for a minor league team or some fitness coach for a junior club (wasn't he training for the MMA at one point?) One bright side, since he played a lot of games in the NHL, he would get pension from the NHL(PA) when he reaches 60+

I always like ANA and EVA. Usually a bit pricier... but I don't like flying on Chinese airlines where the cushions are all worn flat and there are still cigarette holders in the arm rests.

It's very difficult, but every little bit helps. I purposely choose not to buy clothes or shoes that are made in China, I choose groceries from domestic sources rather than from China, I purposely choose to avoid travelling on Chinese airlines, I will never purchase firearms made from Chinese companies, and I do not actively invest in Chinese companies. If everyone did that... even just half a point less in GDP growth in China would be a huge concern for them.

This is more accurate. There's like over 2 million gun owners in Canada... but the police aren't paranoid about being blown away when ringing the door. I don't think the Swiss cops were worried either. Whereas in the US... for some reason violence is prevalence. I'd swear it's something in the water... the lead pipes or something.

It's always the same excuses being used and all of them can be easily debunked once you go beyond preaching the mantras from the CCP.

Isn't the EU supposedly withholding funds aid to Turkey earmarked for all those refugees? I wonder if Turkey will be forcing all those Syrians refugees back to their home country.

Alf, my first thoughts when you mentioned "help!"

A Generational Talent ( Discussion )
Lancaster replied to Snapshot85's topic in General Hockey Discussion
Sergei says hi. He won the Hart, Lester B., and the Selke in the same season. Was also runner-up in the Art Ross (only 10 points behind Gretzky) and also runner-up in the future Rocket Richard trophy (it didn't exist during that time) with only 4 goals less than Pavel that same year. -
To be fair, it took him long enough. He was rated as the top goalie outside of the NHL.... only to reach mediocrity for years (playing for the Panthers and a rapidly declining Canucks can do that). That being said, he's 30 now... with the exception of like Roy, Hasek, Brodeur, Lundqvist (all HHOF goalies or will be)... goalies rarely get better after this stage. Maybe he may have like 3-4 good years in him before he will need to be regulated to be a backup or retire. The Canucks will need to decide whether it's Demko's time to shine in the next couple of seasons or maybe really start thinking about DiPietro as the next "goalie of the future".

To be fair, it is one of the largest typhoon in history....

Todd Bertuzzi should be in the ring of honor.

Unlikely. As much flack as Cloutier got, many Canucks player were leaving him out to dry on many of those goals in 2003. -
Joe Biden Debates Donald Trump September 29
Lancaster replied to DonLever's topic in Off-Topic General
She has recently starting popping back out once against on the attack against Trump, about how he's illegitimate, etc. Pretty much repeating what she said after she initially lost. I believe she also had a fundraising dinner where she was charging 50k per seat or something. While having a rematch would be interesting... it will probably mess up the Democrat party even more than the first go around. If Hillary gets the nomination, it's pretty much Trump 2020 and perhaps even another Republican 2024 as many in the Democrat party will feel they've been rubbed raw once again. Although maybe she can run for VP and then if Trump loses, she will default to the POTUS once her "running mate" kicks the can (or get suicide'd, lol). Biden, Sanders... they aren't really in the best of health. -
Canucks to announce captain at home opener (Oct.9,2019)

Is it just mean or was it a bit jarring not saying Linden part of it all? -
(Trade) Lucic + Conditional 3rd to Calgary for Neal
Lancaster replied to Pears's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Yep. Justin Schulz being an important player for the Pens for their Cup wins. Deven Dubnyk being an all-star, Veniza and Hart nominated goalie after leaving Edmonton. Taylor Hall went from a very good player to an elite MVP player. Jeff Petry from being a depth defenseman for the Oilers to being a key defender for the Habs. The Oilers players should be treated like searching at the bargain bins. Once in a while you might find some great ideas at a low low price, lol.
