  1. I went ahead and compared some of their play earlier today, and I want him to be like that, but right now he's not. Bert's hands were just soo good. He would have been the least fun player to play against in that era. In terms of NHL comparables Lucic isn't that far off, but Jonah's lateral movement is better and has he has better hands than Luc in my opinion. He doesn't have the semi truck body that Luc has, but if he can grow and inch and play at 220+ there is a chance. Personally I want him to play like Chris Kreider. He needs to get faster to get there, but everything else is pretty close from what I can see. Defections, good shot, hits, fights, gets to the net, decently soft hands.
  2. Anyone know another player who played for Timra in his draft year was a centre and also wore number #40? He was picked #210 in 1999 and has scored 904 points in the NHL. His name is Henrik Zetterberg. http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=285
  3. Dood can push weights. I'd be interested to see what his possession stats are like in the SHL.
  4. I hope they give him and Virtanen equal reps in the preseason, so we can get a good comparison of both. Given our current contracts I wouldn't be shocked if both started in the minors and played with Dahlen. Will be interesting to know which RFA's have been qualified.
  5. 0.77 goals per game lead all CHL draft eligibles, and was only behind DeBrincat for u19 players. 4.58 shots per game was third in the OHL for u19, and better than all u19 players in the QMJHL (WHL doesn't see the need to track shots...) His primary points per game of 1.0 was better than Vilardi, M McLeod, C. Pu, L. Brown, Z. Senyshyn, A. Cirelli, M. Stephens, J. Gauthier, P.L. Dubois, C. Glass, R. Gropp, N. Patrick, and M. Rasmussen just to name a few. GF% was 69.15 due to their team being awesome, but relative to him being on the ice his GF%Rel was 7.57. It's not a perfect stat for play driving, but that's pretty good too. Recent Draft eligible skaters to score 45+ goals in the CHL: Crosby Tavares Stamkos McDavid P. Kane DeBrincat Skinner Yakupov Seguin Ehlers Fabbri Hall Suzuki Strome E. Kane Brett Maclean Seth griffith Petan Mantha Virtanen It's not easy to score that much. Obviously there are few players who scored 40 or so that didn't work out, but there are few if any busts who score 45+ in their draft years from recent times. At worst he's probably an elite AHL scorer, on average probably Chris Stewart, David Legwand, Lucic or Nick Foligno, at the top Jeff Carter, or even Dave Andreychuk, although, the goaltending in his era was sooo bad. Just watch: Lol, feel bad for goalies back then.
  6. Probably my favourite pick of the draft. There were some no brainers early, but this one took some real knowledge and guts. Just look at his shots here. One timer from the point on the pp mid/top left, turn and quick release of a loose puck, bottom right snipe, top cheddar right all in the same game. His ability to shoot with his head up is really good. Picks his spots based on the goalies position as opposed to just firing it. His shot actually reminds me of McCann's in the OHL.
  7. The guy just wants to win so bad, hard to think anything will stop him
  8. Not the fancy stats prince, but better than I expected to be honest.
  9. Very good for the 7th round.
  10. 12 Goals is nothing to sniff at for a D man in the OHL, that's top 200 all time for u19 players. Especially when you consider he had over 200 shots on net. I like this pick more than Candella at the time. Can't argue with shot generation from the blue line as a projectable skill
  11. Looking back at previous drafts this guy was easily a first round talent in a few years. Very similar numbers to Nick Ritchie in his draft year. If he was slightly faster, and a bit better of a passer I would say he could have gone top 20. I'm certain he will be able to work on those skills, before hitting the NHL, and as such probably has a similar opportunity to play a role like Ritchie does for the Ducks right now. 74th all time in goals for a season for a u19 player in the OHL. I mean this guy scored more goals per game than Anthony Mantha in his draft year. His line next year could be one of the best in the CHL.
  12. Agreed, most people have said technically he doesn't have a bad stride, just needs to work on perfecting the little things, and building explosiveness. Kind of reminds me of Gaunce in that way actually. Never had a bad stride just didn't have quick feet. If people want to be optimistic, his draft season and size make him a 92-93% match to Jeff Carter and Dave Andreychuk.
  13. He just needs to be able to catch up with them on the transition, and park himself in front on the powerplay.
  14. Not every big power forward can excel playing with skill guys. You still need the mind to get to the right spots and have a good understanding of what your teammates are trying to do. I guarantee you that he created space for Suzuki and Palmu to succeed, that they otherwise wouldn't have had.
  15. Anyone know why he wasn't invited to team Canada camp in the summer? Would seem like a logical choice given his birthday, and speed/scoring ability.
  16. Bracco is a comparable to Palmu. His scoring this year was elite for 19 year olds
  17. http://barrie.ctvnews.ca/video?clipId=833258 Interview on CTV
  18. It's a good pick. The guys shot volume is top class in the OHL. http://prospect-stats.com/OHL/2016/player/7162/ His primary 5v5 points per game was better than Juolevi, Dineen, Stanley, Cernak Goals per game in all situations was also very good compared to guys from this years draft and last years draft too.
  19. Draft gets an A- from me. Hard to argue with most of the picks. Couple personal favourites were available in the 5th 6th and 7th, but overall I think the Canucks did very well.
  20. Gonna be fun to watch him. I like the team connections that are starting to form.
  21. Palmu is a good gamble, not the best pick available, but not bad.
  22. It's true, I mean clearly he thinks the game well enough to play on the national team. The only issue for me is that guys like him are not hard to find in free agency. Obviously hoping for the best and that he can take a physical defensive style to the Comets, and eventually become a smooth passer and skater with bite to shut down opponents. Not necessarily fast, but using size and strength to get leverage in the corners and make smart plays once he gets the puck.
