You do realize this is a thread about the Leafs right? Lots of threads in Canuck Talk if you want to talk about them.
-
Hahaha the Laffs are so pathetic.

I said bye to the playoffs awhile ago, it takes more than beating a few crummy teams to make the playoffs. Get back to me when they put some streaks together against the good teams.

Dave Nonis just needs to bring in more David Clarksons HAHAHAHA! Classic Nonis.

That's interesting that he's talking about cap space, they really only need cap space if they're still trying to make a run for the cup. You don't need it for bringing in young guys for a rebuild.

Steeeeeeeerike! That's a swing and a miss.

On the positive side there should be less Luongo obsession which is a welcome change, I've been sick of it for years. Maybe now people will finally realize the team has a problem scoring instead of always blaming the goalie. Knowing Kesler has given up on the team I no longer have to tolerate his annoying stuff. Hey Kes, quit the complaining to the ref, quit the endless diving and oh yeah how'd you like Canada beating you...Twice hahaha!

[Trade] Canucks Trade Luongo to the Panthers
spliced replied to Alex the Great's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
So the day has finally come, It just seems weird to know he's no longer a Canuck. With all the focus on Luongo and with how important his play was for the performance of the team it really feels like this was his team more than it was the Sedins' or Kesler's or anyone elses. The Luongo era is over and it was a wild ride. I'm not sure what to think of the trade, we'll see what the future holds. -
Is Luongo sitting out again because he's in play?

Something is up, you don't sit your #1 like this for 3 straight games especially when one of them is a HC game. -
Wooohooo champions again. What was this nonsense about Canada no longer being the best hockey country?! They basically controlled the entire tournament from start to finish. Back to back Olympic gold medals, not too shabby. My 3 favorite things from the Olympic hockey. 1. Canada proving they're the best. Again. 2. Canada's depth paying off. Canada, Sweden and Finland all lost key centers but Canada's depth made up for Stamkos and Tavares getting injured. 3. It's another piece of evidence that shows that big ice doesn't make hockey more offensive and exciting despite what some misinformed people think. The 2010 tourney was a better and more exciting tourney because of the smaller ice.

See what happens when you don't play in an easy mode division that inflates your stats. Enough with this trying to fix things with 3rd and 4th liners. The Canucks need top tier skill that can produce in the tough games, they've needed it for years but do little to nothing about it. On the plus side Lack played great.

Hodgson has outscored the entire team the last 2 games lol. It is nice to have super heroes on the team though, the amazing disappearing twins. The one enjoyable thing about this loss is laughing at the obsessive Luongo haters. I thought it was all Luongo's fault when the team implodes right? Good time for back to back games, bring on the Yotes.

No goals in January for the Sedins. If they pop 1 in here it may have been a different game.

What an awful game by Canada. If this is their PP when they work on it how bad would it have been if they didn't lol. That had to be some of the worst passing I've seen from a Canadian WJ team in a while. How can you expect to do anything on the PP when you can't even complete passes to wide open players. So many of Canada's big players laid an egg today. Sam Reinhart was a total nothing. Petan, Ekblad, Pouliot were all bad. Even though I like Ekblad as a player I question using a 17 year old as your top shut down defenceman, I'd like to know if a 17 year old has ever played well as a teams top shut down guy. I remember Seth Jones was very shaky last year, he was beaten badly by Nichushkin I think it was. Drouin was solid but his penalties hurt, Mantha was ok and the criticism of him being lazy are kinda funny at this point since very few players out worked him all tournament. G Reinhart was the best defenceman today and should have played more. Goaltending finally didn't let the team down for a change which was nice. It wasn't amazing but it was ok which is an improvement over the last few years. Fins had a small goalie in net but Canada hardly tested him. The amount of good chances Canada got in tight was minuscule. When I saw how things were going I would have switched to a stacked PP unit and just played them for most or all the PP. Drouin, McDavid, Mantha, Reinhart and Lazar. I don't really get why Canada were so flat though. It's amazing how Canada can get on a roll and ring off 5 in a row then look so bad lately. The one thing I'll say that I've said before is Canada need to work on getting better on the big ice. They looked terrible in the last 2 tournaments on the big ice but in the other 3 they weren't that bad. In 2010 they lost in the gold medal game in OT, in 2011 they should have won, they were clearly the best team in the tourney but had a brain cramp at the end of the gold medal game and lost, then in 2012 they were pretty good again but goaltending was brutal when it counted and Gormley I think it was had probably the most unlucky game of his career and Canada still almost came back to tie Russia. At least next year is back on smaller ice again. The other silver lining is this is an Olympic year so the losses don't hurt as bad when I can just quickly switch focus to that.

An up and down game, Canada looked really good at times and pretty poor at others. I've been very unimpressed with Rychel so far, I think the big ice must be hurting him. Watching Canada lately has reminded me of watching the Canucks when they would heavily out chance the other team and lose and all these people would ask why the Canucks kept running into hot goalies. Overall I enjoyed the game but was disappointed in the loss. Canada can still finish first in their division so it may not end up meaning much.

Why Do The Canucks Always Play Philly Around New Years?
spliced replied to Giant Inflatable Beaver's topic in Canucks Talk
I wondered about this too. Maybe they have something that takes over their arena this time of year like a circus so they go on long road trips. -
I'm not normally a big fan of blowouts but this game was great fun.

I was thinking this for forwards: Benn Crosby Stamkos (Amazing firepower with Crosby and Stammer plus Benn gives the line a physical presence and he can bury the puck so that gives Crosby 2 options to pass to) Nash Toews Giroux (Nash and Toews worked well last Olympics and Giroux should be a good compliment to them) Duchene Getzlaf Perry (not sure who to put with Perry and Getzlaf, thought maybe a guy with speed might help them defensively) Couture Bergeron Simmonds (utility and game changer line. When things aren't going well throw these guys out to change up momentum) O'Reilly Tavares (Tavares will be in the starting line up I just couldn't figure where to put him. He could go with Getz and Perry but that would be a pretty slow line)

[Official] Canucks coach talk. Keep all talk here.

Reading that article gives me some hope, maybe Torts can get through to some of these guys and keep them motivated. Get on Bieksa to be intense game in and game out. Talk with Kesler to help him understand what is really important in hockey and give him some goals to achieve. Somehow get Edler back on course hopefully. Maybe the team's more high maintenance players will benefit from the high involvement level Torts seems to have on a daily basis. -

Pretty tough situation for Torts to come in to. He's gonna be compared to AV but AV had a lot of core guys in the prime of their career(Sedins, Luongo, probably Kesler), Torts is getting them in their decline. Plus AV got to take advantage of maybe the worst division in the league, Torts comes in just as the teams moves to a harder division. I'm almost surprised Torts would take this job, but I guess with only so many jobs to go around coaches can't really be too picky.
