God that was an ugly game. Almost wanted to cry. Maybe I shed a few tears, don't remember. Anyways, that will not happen again. Ninkovich has had his ups and downs all season but if he plays anything like he did last week, Ray Rice will have to battle harder than ever to get through the second level of ninkovich mayo and a hungry, fired up Spikes. Not saying Rice won't have a great day, he might and probably will, but not 200 yards like last game. It's going to be a good game.

I love that so many people on my facebook in the last 24 hours have made statuses about the Ravens having a cakewalk, it's gonna be a Ravens/Giants Super Bowl, Ray Lewis is going to butt rape Brady (that one was the weirdest). I cannot for the life of me wait, if the Patriots pull out the win, to completely troll the hell out of their facebook walls and text message inbox's on their phone. Already got all their statuses screen shotted in case they delete them. Especially this one guy who said Brady is over rated..

Maybe I was watching a different game than you were, but I seem to remember a certain 49ers QB throwing for 299 yards and 3 TDs, and scampering another in himself. And a certain 49ers tight end making at least 3 spectacular catches and bringing 2 of them to the house. Not to mention that the brand of D that we saw from the 49ers was anything but boring, seeing a few well executed and artful interceptions of the league's best pure passer.

Anyways, with any luck I'll be at Candlestick pulling hard for your ideal scenario not to take place.

At the risk of sounding rude how can anyone in their right mind compare the Saints defense to the Ravens defense? Saints total defensive rank, 24th of 32 NFL teams. The Ravens rank 3rd of 32 NFL teams.

Alex Smith's 299 passing yards was higher then every single game he played this season. He had 3 TD's, he only had 3 TD's in 1 other game all season which came against Tampa Bay which happens to be the #32 ranked defense of 32 NFL teams. His 24 completions was also the highest total of his season.

Alex Smith Stats vs. Ravens This Season

- 15 completions on 24 attempts

- 140 yards

- Longest Pass: 20 yards

- 0 Touchdowns

- 1 Interception

- 1 Fumble (not lost)

Just to mention the run game, Gore had 39 yards averaging 2.8 yards per carry. Ray Rice also averaged 2.8 yards a carry. Smith averaged 5.8 yards a completion. Flacco averaged 7 yards a completion.

Ravens won 16-6. This game was 6-6 after 3 quarters all field goals.

This was not an exciting game. This was a lot of 3 and outs and small gain plays.

You just can't compare the the two.

Well I hope I'm not going to sound rude when I say that I wasn't doing anything of the sort. You said the 49ers were a dull, defense-minded team that you didn't want to see in the Super Bowl, and I disagree vehemently, thinking they put on one of the most exciting shows of offence that I've seen this season. You said you want to see Giants vs Pats because of the potential for offence. I say throw Alex Smith against the Patriots last ranked pass D, and you'll get plenty of bang for your buck. Brady is admittedly a better passer than Alex, but so too are the 49ers defensive backfield much superior, so you get storylines on both sides of the ball.

I don't want to see the Ravens in the Super Bowl. The Ravens are a grind it out defensive team, sure. But the 49ers have a lot of offensive potential, and Alex Smith has played in a largely protective system that has kept his numbers down (not unlike your precious Tebow), and Alex has shown in the past that he does have a lot of real talent when you turn him loose. The playoffs, after all, are where legends are made. I seem to remember a certain starting QB coming off an 18 TD, 12 INT season after the 2001 season, only to march his team to the Super Bowl (minus the game Bledsoe played) and get named the MVP. No one would've expected it based on his history, and he'd played acceptably all year, but the playoffs bring out the best in people. Don't want to discount Alex Smith from that list.

And, you can't necessarily predict the outcome or even the flow of a playoff game based on an earlier season matchup. Remember a week 17 game between the Giants and Patriots in 2007, that ended in a 38-35 shootout win for New England...fast forward to the Super Bowl, and you have a rematch between the same teams, and the score was 7-3 going into the 4th quarter.

I think the problem with Alex Smith is he never really go a fair shot.

Sure he got the chance to start, but those teams were really bad. Not to mention he had a new offensive coordinator every single year. Learning a new offense year after year is not an easy task.

I sort of compare him to David Carr, who had the potential to be a really good quarterback. But they stuck him behind a make-shift offensive line and basically ruined any chance he had at being a good quarterback.

Alex Smith was sacked 44 times this year, most in the NFL.

David Carr was sacked 76 times in his rookie year. Poor guy.

7 offensive coordinators to be exact, no qb in the history of the nfl has ever endured that many oc's all in a row.

Alex Smith was leaving S.F before the start of this year until Harbaugh got hired and said he wanted to work with him to get his game back on track.

Good for him for turning it around, I'm not even a niner's fan but how could you not root for Smith after what he's been through the last 7 years, I hope they do it!

So I have a white, fully authentic randy moss jersey from 07 with the super bowl patch and everything. I love wearing it to this day because as much as it shattered my heart to lose in the super bowl that season was a very fun, exciting and proud one for me as a fan. Anyways, some collector dude emailed me this morning offering me $700 for it because of its significance (the two big records broken, 16-0). I bought the jersey at a silent auction in foxborough over winter break that year for 310. So I'd make a 400 $ profit but just what the jersey means to me is worth so much more. What do you guys think, keep it? Sell it?
