Update on the MAG Beta:

So the servers shut down again. I've played for about 8 hours now and It's an amazingly fun game.

There is no "hide behind a wall and heal" system in this game, just HP out of 100. You can re-stock your ammo, health and med packs at stations (usually near key points on the map). The weapons are pretty unique I must say (for a beta).

You have upgradeable weapons based on tiers (1, 2 and 3), but because the beta deletes sll of the characters every day you can't get past tier 2 (well I can't). You create classes much like in CoD games, but you have a certain amount of credits to spend. A sniper rifle costs more credits than a machine gun, and heavy armour costs more than mesh armour. In a class you get one primary weapon (Sniper Rifle/Machine Gun/Assault Rifle), a choice of armour (Reinforced/Mesh/Heavy), a sidearm (Only a handgun at the moment), and 3 utilities (Rocket Launcher/Med Pack/Smoke Grenade/Frag Grenade/Repair Kit). You can also customize your weapons and armour. You can buy upgrades (faster reload, sights, grip) with skill points you earn from matches. Once you buy all of the available upgrades from a tier you advance a tier.

The controls are very fluent (borrowing a lot from COD4) and there is almost no lag. There is only one game type available right now called acquisition and you can only chose between Raven and Valor (No SVER). In acquisition the attacking team of 64 players has to find a way to steal two transports in a limited time. The defending team (aided by gun turrents and sensors) have to stop them from achieving that. The teams are split up into two 32 man platoons with each having a platoon leader receiving commands from the OIC (Officer in charge). Each platoon is then separated into 4 smaller squads which each have a squad leader who takes commands from the platoons leaders and order their squads to do the assigned tasks.

Of course at the moment with very little experience (because they delete characters at the end of the day) there are no OICs or Platoon leaders (You need to advance to a certain level to apply for that position in a game) so the system doesn't work like that. But with more players and more experienced players it'll be a great way to order around huge amounts of people. The developers also make it so the game isn't as crowded as you think it would be. They manage to make the levels big enough so there isn't constant fighting but small enough so that there is a lot of conflict in certain areas.

A must buy when it comes out for sure.
