c0medyClub
What weight do these guys walk around at usually? you know, their non-fighting weight. Like, I heard watching the MMA show with Mauro Ranallo that Silva walks around at 220. I have no idea if that's true considering he'd have to cut 35lbs to cut down to middleweight which is an insane amount of weight.

It's a normal thing for most fighters, thiago alves for example walks around at around 200 and cuts to 170. It's become a science, fighters are trying to get whatever advantage they can before they step in the octagon

They walk around at that weight, but a lot of it gets worked off in the training camp. Then the rest is cut.
c0medyClub
ya, they look huge when comparing to regular people but it makes sense. I suppose the cutting and a few other things do the trick and converting a few of those bf % to muscle which makes a big difference. That's why they look even bigger. Regular joes that go to the gym compared to professional boxers and MMA fighters with years of training and professionals to help them along the way. A friend of mine is 6'0 and 230 and he looks like he'd fit into the heavy weight category by comparing them through a visual inspection despite having 25-30lbs on those guys. That applies for a lot of people as well as myself.
CanucksHomer
Silva is one of the bigger middleweights, usually middleweights or any fighters in any weight class walk around 15-20 pounds above their fighting weight but gain it all back after the weigh-in, Silva however, walks around 25-30 pounds over his weight class. This is a huge disadvantage to GSP if a mega fight between him and Silva were to occur. Even if it does, dont expect it to be this year, most likely will occur mid to late next year to give time for GSP to buildup muscle so that his walking weight would be around 205-210 ( he currently walks around 190, fighting at 170.) In the past, GSP has said that he has had troubles fighting bigger guys in the welterweight division, namely Fitch and Alves. It would be a bad idea for him to move to the middleweight division and take on Silva right away. Might be an unpopular suggestion but give GSP a test fight against Bisping or Sonnen first to prove that he can fight with the bigger guys. You take his weight and multiple by it by his body fat % which is 7 (190 x 0.07= 176.7) and he obviously is 170. I believe that's how it's done anyway. Should've_Drafted_Kopitar
i like gsp, he's a great guy and i know where he's coming from. The guys got sooooooo much to lose with this one fight and i can understand him not taking it. But thats what seperates hims in my opinion from guys like Fedor and A.Silva. These guys go in their and fight anybody. Their not worried about their legacy or about the opinions of others. Guys like Fedor and Anderson have alway went on and said they could care less about rankings and never thought of themselves as the best. GSP has been talking about his legacy and wanting to go down as the best. This mentality has lead to his success because he has become so methodical, but also very conservative fighting style. As for the weight thing GSP said he walks around at like 195. I think he said that like last summer. He should be around 200lb. Thats my guess at least. I remember him saying that once he moves up, he wants to make it a perminent move. He doesn't wanna switch between two weight classes because he feels its unhealthy for his body. I really do think he should have a tune up fight though. Moving up a weight class when you're not even one of the biggest in your own and fighting the arguable best P4P fighter. Yikes! Kaufman and the Canadian-based promotion recently announced that the former Strikeforce champ will fight in front of her hometown crowd in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, on April 2 at “Armageddon Fighting Championship 5: Judgment Day.” Kaufman said she took the fight with Strikeforce’s permission and also remains under contract with the California-based promotion. “I am extremely thrilled to be able to have Sarah fight for us, especially in front of all her friends and family,” Armageddon president Darren Owen stated in an official release. “She has been at all of our events and gets the biggest ovation, and now to be able to give our fans what they really want, to watch her compete, just makes sense.” Kaufman’s opponent has yet to be determined. Prior to her recent loss to Coenen, the previously undefeated Kaufman had racked up 12 consecutive wins to open her career. The 25-year-old Canadian claimed the Strikeforce title with a February 2010 win over Takayo Hashi and defended the belt against Roxanne Modafferi before surrendering the title this past October. Grapefruits
UFC Purchases Strikeforce 3/12/2011 11:26 AM PST by TMZ Staff Zuffa, the parent company of UFC, has purchased its top competitor, Strikeforce, UFC president Dana White announced today. In announcing the move, White says it will be "business as usual" for both organizations. White said there will not be "superfights" between fighters of both groups and all contracts and business deals (including Strikeforce's deal with Showtime) will remain unaffected. Samk
Zuffa LLC, the parent company of Ultimate Fighting Championship, has purchased Strikeforce, its last major competitor in the mixed-martial-arts market, according to UFC president Dana White. In an interview posted Saturday on MMAFighting.com, White confirmed what had been whispered for weeks but still sent shockwaves through the industry: the San Jose-based promotion had followed PRIDE Fighting Championship and World Extreme Cagefighting under the Zuffa banner. "Every year we take this thing to another level," said White in the interview. "As we continue to grow . . . we need more fights, more fights. Let's face the facts: Strikeforce is a brand fans have come to love. They do have a following. "People enjoy the fights they are putting on. It made sense to us." According to White, under the deal — which was finalized in recent days — Strikeforce will continue to run as a separate entity, with long-time owner and promoter Scott Coker still in charge. All Strikeforce contracts will be honoured, whether it's a deal with a fighter or the broadcast agreement with Showtime, stressed White. "Strikeforce is going to continue to run, business as usual," said White, one of close to a dozen times he uttered 'business as usual' during the interview. The dynamic will be interesting, he conceded. The UFC president has made no secret his feelings of disdain for Showtime executive vice-president Ken Hershman. White has insisted that Strikeforce fighters Paul Daley and Josh Barnett will never fight in UFC again. Showtime commentator Frank Shamrock has essentially been erased from UFC history, even though he's one of the greatest fighters in UFC history. White has called out the representatives of MMA legend Fedor Emelianenko, saying they are responsible for the Russian never signing with UFC. Still, despite hard feelings, each of those contracts with Strikeforce will be seen though, said White. Just don't hold your breath waiting for cross-promotion events or champion-versus-champion contests. Fans dreaming of a Fedor versus Brock Lesnar match, or Alistair Overeem versus Cain Velasquez? That won't be happening, according to White. "When I say business as usual, we don't co-promote," White told MMA Fighting with a laugh. "Even when we own it, we don't co-promote." The move is just the latest big one for Zuffa, which has essentially created a monopoly of mixed martial arts on an international scale. "We have a plan to take this thing global and make this thing the biggest sport in the world," said White. So far this year, the company has sold out arenas from Australia to Las Vegas, Seattle to Toronto. White anticipates moving soon into China, Korea, Japan and India. "What we're doing now is we're putting together the game plan, the model, on we move out and develop these countries," he said. "Our job is to put on the big fights the fans want to see." http://www.vancouver...0790/story.html

I love that all of the Wec guys are in the UFC now, but we get less fights than before, so i don't understand what White was saying that he wants to have need more and more fights, if so why did he stop putting on Wec events?
