Chris19
I think they're going to shutdown Granville cause it absolutely a ice rink. Even with snow tires you're going to slide.
nitronuts
Delays at YVR RICHMOND/CKNW(AM980) 12/17/2008 Wednesday's snow storm is causing problems at Vancouver International Airport. Several flights have been cancelled, while others are listed as delayed. Airport staff are reminding travellers to check their flight information before heading out to Richmond. They're also asking all flyers to be patient on the tarmac because each plane has to be de-iced before take-off. Fatal Pedestrian Crash VANCOUVER/CKNW(AM980) 12/17/2008 For the 10th time this year a pedestrian has been killed on a Vancouver street. Vancouver Police say just before 3:30pm Tuesday afternoon a 49-year old man was killed crossing the street in the 400-block of Kingsway at St. George Street. Police say this time last year there were 25 fatal crashes, 14 of which were pedestrians. Snow slows afternoon commute in Lower Mainland; blizzard warning in Fraser Valley VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - Two people have died in car crashes in Pitt Meadows and Maple Ridge, and snow combined with strong northeast winds have produced blizzard conditions in the Fraser Valley, dropping visibilities to near zero in some areas. RCMP and most local police forces are advising people to not drive unless they absolutely have to, and only if you have winter tires. Snow Snarling Traffic METRO VANCOUVER/CKNW(AM980) 12/17/2008 The snow is starting to have an impact on transit. Some North Vancouver bus routes are being diverted because of snow and icy roads. The same goes for West Vancouver. In Vancouver, buses are avoiding trips north of Hastings due to the slope and the conditions, although city crews are en route to deal with it. Expect delays at higher elevations in Burnaby. Skytrain is running normally for now. The Albion Ferry remains shut down because of ice on the Fraser River. Handydart is now on "essential service" levels: only kidney dialysis and other priority medical calls.

Sarcastic
Sea to Sky Highway was brutal. Took over an hour to get from Vancouver to Horseshoe Bay alone. Couldn't even make it to Squamish thanks to the jackknifed semi trailer. At least my class got to play rugby in the snow once we got back.
Starbug
Arg!!!! I hate how unprepared this city is for snow. I left work at 6:30, took me 2 minutes to walk to the bus stop. Got on a bus at 7:15. 4 stops later, bus stopped and the driver said all buses in the city were shut down for at least half an hour. So I walked from Oak Bay Junction to downtown, waited around there a bit for the first of a cab to come by or my next bus to start going. Ended up taking a cab. I wonder if I can get some sort of refund from work for needing to take a cab home when having to work late...

Starbug
Everybody stay home and watch the Canucks game. :D But that requires getting home. And the buses were running 30+ minutes behind, then stopped running for most of an hour, when I was trying to get home.

Starbug
What about the radio? Doesn't Victoria have a station that would air the games? I have PVR so I didn't miss any of the game. I won't get to watch the Linden ceremony until another day though. I just would rather have been home than traipsing through town, wondering how the heck I was going to get home. Common sense
Agg, How much snow does it take to close a high school here? Depends. If you're private school, then you close before snow even falls on the ground. If you live in anywhere by Vancouver, Richmond, or New West, you'll get a snow day. Sarcastic
If you're on the east side forget about it. I remember 2 years ago all that snow, half my school missing, and we still went through the day.
