nitronuts
On the stranded train, a passenger who tweets under the name @pluMonday talked about what he was seeing, posting, "They're going to try coupling our train. Which apparently means they're going to try pushing our train, with ANOTHER train." After Skytrain technicians arrived and began the removal process, he later tweeted, "Skytrain vehicle techs arrived. Coupling about to commence." That train has been removed as of 10:40 a.m., though it was dragged back to Bridgeport Station instead of Marine Drive, which meant passengers would need to queue up for the shuttle buses almost two hours after their delays began. Ricky Mann, a passenger on the stalled train, told how the car lost power, causing the air conditioning to shut down. “I only got on at Aberdeen and didn’t make it very far,” said Mann, who was trying to get downtown to his Canada Post job. “The air conditioning went off and it became very stuffy very quickly. I think it took me more than two hours to get from Aberdeen to Bridgeport and now there are huge line-ups to get the shuttle bus across to Marine. “I think they should have looked into this a bit more and made more plans to deal with a bit of snow.” Mann seemed to think the slight incline on the line on the approach to Bridgeport was making it tough for the train to continue forward. Crowds at other SkyTrain stations were also large Thursday morning. At Brighouse Station, which has seen several days of delays over the past few weeks due to technical problems, Twitter user @ac_awesome reported, "Skytrain platform at Brighouse is packed. Not a single @translink staff in sight to control crowds. It's gonna get rioty here soon!" Other Twitter users joined in: @HaFunny pontificated, "Bridgeport to waterfront canada line is gettin ppl to take bus to marine dr instead No trains! Due to severe Weather Really? This is severe?" @MysteriousAges piped his thoughts to Translink, saying, "You guys should put megaphones in storage at important exchanges. The guy making bus announcements is hard to hear at Bridgeport." Stuck in the throng at Bridgeport, CBC and Virgin Radio presenter Simone Grewal tweeted out the image above of passengers desperate to get to work and school but potentially facing delays of hours. Common sense
Sigh...they were using 40-footers as shuttles?
old_time_hockey
Could you imagine if this happened during the Olympics? Perhaps it was best we didn't get the snowy winter that year.

I am a bit surprised though - that this is the first snow day on the Canada Line.

Wetcoaster
Okay - all you intending to drive - go get winter tires or be ticketed. Motorists caught driving without winter tires can be ticketed, police warned today.http://www.vancouversun.com/Drivers+caught+without+winter+tires+ticketed+police+warn/3884771/story.html#ixzz16KkEPW2t I am unsure what law that is that would permit this since unless I missed something the Lower Mainland has not be designated a mountain area where one must have winter tires installed or carry chains by law. The Situation
Hmmm, right now would be a good time to see a movie or go shopping without there being huge crowds.

tmoney44
I gave myself a snow day so I could enjoy some football. Great timing!
SlimCanucksFan
I love it when good threads survive and still active through the years, such as this one. It's snowing but not hard. Snow filled my suite entranceway & staircase. I'm staying home to post on here & watch football & hockey. Tomorrow will be messy when rain washes the snow away. I hate walking on slush but I have to... at least I have a good pair of snow boots now. Have a nice & safe day!

hockeyville88
From Translink All service to SFU is suspended until further notice due to road conditions. SFU classes cancelled. I guess road crews can't keep up with the snow And that is why I stayed home today! Wishing everyone a safe drive home tonight. It's icky out

It's icky out My friend used to go to SFU and he'd either stuck there or has to rush home whenever it snows on the mountain, even when it rained everywhere else. He sure has many good stories to tell over the years.
Wetcoaster
It's law here too, but I thought only in mountainous areas like the coqihalla. That is the law as I understand it. In fact the Sea-to-Sky has not be so designated despite calls for it to be done. Oct 5, 2010 9:59am Sea to Sky resolutions get mixed UBCM reception Invasive species, recycling pass; snow tires voted down By Jesse Ferreras Resolutions proposed by Sea to Sky communities got a mixed reception at the Union of British Columbia Municipalities (UBCM) convention last week. Policy resolutions regarding invasive species and recycling passed, while a resolution to make snow tires a legal requirement in the winter months was voted down after already being rejected by the UBCM resolutions committee. If you use tires that do not have sufficient tread then you can be ticketed in non-mountainous regions. As far as I know it is lawful to drive in Metro Vancouver with summer tires or all-season as long as they meet minimum tread requirements.
