hank4hire
Too bad for Richmond today. And to me it's a little bit unfortunate the way baseball is scored, that Jesse Carlson can get credit for a win in a game that he nearly screwed up for his team. It might be nice if they tinkered with that such that no pitcher can get a win in a game where they are charged a blown save: maybe give it to the pitcher right after instead? Doubly bad for me, because I had Richmond in fantasy too. EDIT: Incidentally, if I had told any of you a year ago that of all the BC born major league pitchers out there, Scott Richmond would be the one off to the best start in 2009 at this point, would you have believed me? RUPERTKBD
You're right it doesn't seem fair to blow a save and pick up a win that's why i sorta disregard the win loss stat for relievers, to me it's more about the holds, saves, and era. One year ago, if you told me Richmond would have best start of all BC born pitchers, i would've thought you were crazy. Harden would've been my guess Go Jays, Beat BoSox
hank4hire
It's gonna be tough. No Doc for this series, instead it's Tallet, Cecil and Ray against Wakefield, Penny and Lester. I think even one out of three would be a decent result. (Can you believe of the three BoSox starters, Wakefield has the best numbers so far?) RUPERTKBD
Carlson doesn't get a win, I think he just gets a no-decision, same as Richmond. Whoever pitched the ninth, Downs I think? Get's the save. Really though it was Richmond's win.
The Alchemist
Further proof that the win/loss stat for pitchers is meaningless: Johan Santana is 5-2 so far this year. His line in the those 2 losses? 7 IP 3H 2R 0ER 1BB 13K 6.1IP 7H 2R 0ER 1BB 6K
hank4hire
Agreed, even a great pitcher can get shafted with low run support so i'm sure the "experts" take all the other stats into consideration: whip, K/inning, era.. etc

hank4hire
I predict the jays will have a good read on the knuckleball by the 3rd inning and start to pound wakefield into submission

hank4hire
Your right, wakefield has done well against the jays 16-11 lifetime against the Blue Jays with a 3.76 ERA although there are some individuals who have had success: ba/obp/slug Alex Rios (40): .231 / .250 / .538, 3 homers Kevin Millar (29): .444 / .483 / .889, 3 homers Aaron Hill (26): .292 / .346 / .333 Lyle Overbay (17): .313 / .353 / .313 Marco Scutaro (17): .313 / .353 / .438 Here's hoping the law of averages even out and the jays pull this one out

Raoul Duke
You know what's worse than being a Canucks fan..... being a Mariners fan. To be honest, I know they're gonna be crap this year. I'm actually stoked about the Jays, and the fact that one of my very good friends is pitching his heart out for them!!! Scotty for All-Star!!! hank4hire
^^You know Scotty Richmond? That's awesome. I'm going to Toronto in August to see the jays so hopefully i get to see him pitch in one of the games. As for the Mariners, they are starting to look like the team that was projected to stink again, i was optimistic about their start but they've really come back down to earth. The Alchemist
WSox and the Padres have reached an agreement to send Jake Peavy to Chicago, pending Peavy waiving his no trade clause. The deal is supposedly 2 pitching prospects and Gavin Floyd (who is garbage) for Peavy. A steal IMO, White Sox will still suck though, because they are old and have no offense. Wonder if Peavy will waive his NTC though, he has previously only expressed interest in NL teams, or AL teams on the west coast.
hank4hire
You would think the padres would have discussed waiving the NTC with Peavy before going ahead with the trade proposal. NY and Boston fans are probably wondering why they didn't get Peavy right about now

King_Canuckian
Red Sox fan here. Loved yesterday's game, although Eckersley's colour commentating made me say wtf a few times. Jason Bay pops one over the green monster, over the seats, and into the parking lot. Ortiz finally homers this season. Ellsbury breaks the Red Sox record for most put-outs in the outfield. Varitek homers twice. Tough break for Cecil though. Glad to see him stay in the game after hurting himself on that dive. Wished he could have stayed in longer, because he was bringing it up until that big inning. I hope being left in there as long as he was doesn't hamper his development. Donky
Best thing about this season is watching Zach Greinke pitch. Somehow he has managed to get a 1-0 loss. But he has an opportunity to have one of the greatest pitching seasons of alltime. 7-1 0.60 ERA. 0.83 WHIP! 4 complete games in 8 starts. Has a great shot to lead MLB Wins, Strikeouts, ERA, WHIP and IP. Strikeouts will probably be a tough one for him but if he continues to go the distance he will have a shot. It's still very early but his stuff is unreal. Can throw a 65mph change and follow with a 98mph fastball or a devastating slider. Guys sick.
