Canucks United
Jays lose again. The run support for Halladay has been atrocious. He didn't have his best stuff out there today but god the Jays have only scored 7 runs in his last three starts. How is anybody supposed to win with that run support? Bernie Brewer
http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20...sp&c_id=mlb Seattle trades Jeff Clement, Ronny Cedeno, Aaron Pribanic, Brett Lorin and Nathan Adcock for Jack Wilson and Ian Snell. Bad deal for the M's imo.
Gretzky's Mullet
First point, his knees are recovering from surgery and he was crap defensively at catcher. Also, you may have heard of this guy Branyan who is a LH firstbaseman. With no ability to play C, Adam Moore coming up next year, and the fact that he would lose any offensive value by moving to first/DH, he had no future in the organization (Carp?). Raoul Duke
Still trying to figure out why they bothered with Snell. 2-8, 5.36 ERA, and a beauty 1.62 WHIP???? Yowzaaaas!!!! What a steal. Tis funny though. I was going off last night about how pathetic Cedeno was. Buh bye. Jack Wilson.... ummm.... cool I guess? I'm sure he's better than Cedeno and muuuuch better than what Yuni did before he was dealt.
Bernie Brewer
I am familiar with this one lefthanded first baseman, who is having the best season of his career at the tender age of 33 and is on a one year contract. How exactly does he lose offensive value by moving to first/DH? It's a pretty big assumption to think that both Branyan and Griffey will be back to assume their roles of last year, there's a strong chance neither will return, in which case Clement can play 1B or DH. He's listed as a first baseman on the Pirates website, incidentally. And if we're going to actually present the relevant facts, perhaps you should've mentioned that Adam Moore isn't much of a defensive catcher by all accounts either. Way too soon to give up on Clement, sorry. I was less upset to see Balentien go. A long fall from grace for a guy who as recently as last year was being touted as the best prospect in the system, but defensively he was certainly weak and I agree that he showed less improvement at the plate than he should have. Saunders has a better all around game. I just think they could've gotten more for Balentien, that's all. If the Mariners are planning for next year, why would they want unspectacular players with mileage on them already. Jack Wilson is an average veteran, certainly not a guy with much value, just a competent player. And Snell seems almost to be a bit of a head case, and is far more inconsistent for what he is than Clement was. But the players they got have no real future period. Snell is still youngish, but not exactly a guy with lots of potential to fulfill. At least with Clement and Balentien you have guys that still have some room to grow. Emphasis on Clement, who I'm convinced is by far the most valuable player we're talking about. Washburn has to be traded, even if he does want to stay in Seattle (which apparently he does). hank4hire
The Mariners should be Vancouver's baseball team after the Canadians. The only BJ fans from Vancouver are Sportsnet Pacific fans, because that's the only crap that they promote on commercial breaks.
hank4hire
With the Phillies out of the Halladay sweepstakes (Cliff Lee acquisition), it seems more likely he will stay in the AL barring a package from the dodgers that would get it done
Gretzky's Mullet
First point, think about this: how do the top-10 hitting catchers compare offensively with the top-ten hitting firstbaseman/DHs? The fact that C is a premium defensive position makes a bat more valuable there than at first or DH, because the average C is much worse.

The Alchemist
These names should not be released. Its a joke. MLB needs to put an investigation together and find out who is leaking these names.
Gretzky's Mullet
I agree with Carlos. Someone is in serious breach of contract by leaking these names, which were only gotten because the players union and the league shared a rare moment of cooperation to study the impacts of drugs back in 2003. Bernie Brewer
No question, a top offensive catcher is a premium player, especially if he's competent behind the plate. I just think the M's have been so offensively barren of late that any good bat is worth keeping around. I should admit I may also have a bias with Clement, because I went to a game last year where he hit 2 jacks (against the Tigers I think). Give me Jose Molina over those 2 any day . I'd be ok with Moore getting a fast track to the majors, but he's still only in A ball isn't he? I can't see him jumping all the way up to the majors to start next season. I would think maybe starting the year in Tacoma, especially being that, despite his pedestrian hitting numbers, Johjima is locked in for 2 more years and seems to be a favourite of management. Time will tell. I'll confess that we don't get too many Pirates games on TV up here in Canada, so I mostly know Snell from his numbers and the reports about him. I don't know, I'm convinced that you, me and half this forum could do a better job than Bill Bavasi did. The jury's still out on Z of course. Gretzky's Mullet
Moore is in Tacoma (AAA), so we will very likely see him next year, as backup if not starting. Yes, Johjima is an owner favorite, but he is now getting only about 1/3 of the starts. And I do agree with your last point, Bavasi knew he was getting canned so he drafted a friggin reliever with the first round pick last year...the Beltre signing was about the only thing he did right.
