Raoul Duke
Wise words. The M's just traded current Washburn for 10 years ago Washburn. 10-y-a Wash is under team control for 6 years and will be payed less (over 6 years) than current Wash will be over 2 months. Not only that, they got a high-A arm with good upside to replace one of those lost in the pitt deal. The pitt deal was a little iffy, but this is a steal for the Ms. That's not to say it's a bad trade for the Tigers, Wash is what they need, a reliable 3-4 starter for their playoff run. There is word that another deal may have been done, and we're still waiting to hear about it. Remember, the deadline is for paperwork to be submitted, so it's still possible they announce another trade. Edit for Johnny: Yes, he's 3rd in ERA, but: A. ERA isn't a good way to evaluate pitchers. B. The Mariners are virtually out of the race, and so don't need the extra 1/2 win of value that Wash provides over Vargas/French. C. What Mullet said. Gretzky's Mullet
Could Joakim Soria of the Royals be the most underrated relief pitcher in all of baseball? Of course he doesn't get a lot of work pitching as a closer for the Royals, but the guy has sparkling numbers all season long, has given up 5 runs all season, and gets called upon for 2 inning saves. hank4hire
Now out of the game after giving up 2 unearned runs. I have him in fantasy, but decided to bench him today since I was winning all the pitching categories and it's sunday. You'd better believe I didn't want a guy I benched to pitch a no-hitter.
