Pavel1994
Blue Jays need to fire Gibby ! Why is BJ coming into games of late not as a closer ? We have enough arms in there to use rather than BJ

Pavel1994
In the 9th or later in a close game, it is pretty common to see a closer come in to preserve a tie, particularly at home where if you're not winning at the end of the 8th inning there will be no save situation. They may need to fire Gibbons, but not over that. In the case of Ryan, I also think Gibbons is trying to show confidence in him (and also help Ryan's own confidence) after a couple of shaky outings by BJ. Gretzky's Mullet
I get that, but I find he's going to BJ too early. Gibbons I don't think knows what he's doing when it comes to pitchers at all. Evidence from last year and the year prior to that. Ryan, I don't think it's a confidence thing. He was 12/12 prior to this 3 outting slide he's been on. I think it's just a release point for him. His control hasn't been there the last 3 times he's been out. Walking a lot more than normal. I also would mind seeing the Jays pick up Jay Gibbons. He would add a lot to this club in both the bat and defense.

Raoul Duke
Wow, was looking through the listings for the M's/Jays game and finally see that they won. The M's winning before I even get up??? Doesn't happen very often.

The Alchemist
Signing Ryan was a mistake. 5/47 for a reliever is a joke contract.
Gretzky's Mullet
Compared to what the Reds are paying Cordero, it seems like an ok deal. Rivera is a great pitcher, but 15 million is a lot to be paying any player who doesn't hit 40 home runs and drive in 120 runs. Wagner blows his fair share of saves too, though the man should get some credit for being a legit hall-of-fame candidate. Joe Nathan I'd say is about of the same calibre as Ryan, and makes more. As far as I know, those are the closers making more than Ryan. (since John Smoltz hasn't registered a save in about 4 years I don't think he qualifies, plus is hurt anyways). After this season, KRod and Papelbon will both get big money. But yeah, I'd say mostly just another example of how grossly incompetent JP Ricciardi really is. The Alchemist
Its not just the 9 million a year, but for 5 years? With rare exceptions relievers are fickle and to commit 5 years at big money just doesn't make sense. Fukudome just homered, what a monster. The Alchemist
Why exactly? He's one of the good guys in baseball. Maybe the Tigers made a bad move in giving him so much, but personally, the guy doesn't deserve it at all.
