nitronuts
Police incident at Metrotown causing transit problems Dave White BURNABY (NEWS1130) | Sunday, June 28th, 2009 3:23 pm BURNABY (NEWS1130) - A police incident has shut down all transit service to Metrotown station. Drew Snider with TransLink says SkyTrain is passing through Metrotown station, "Skytrain is running through Metrotown station without stopping. So they are going to Patterson, they are going to Royal Oak and then keeping right on through. A bus bridge is being set up between Royal Oak and Patterson." Snider adds buses are also being affected, "We have buses that are going to Patterson and no further. The trolley buses, the number 19 are only going to Joyce and turning around and then shuttles are taking the rest of the way to Patterson." Keep it on News1130 for the latest on this developing story.

Buggernut
^ the difference is those airport lines are express/high-speed lines to the city centre, so a premium is justified. The Canada Line is just any other metro train....for example, four trains go to London's Heathrow and there isn't a premium for the underground stations there. It'll cost you an extra $2.50 to take the Canada Line from YVR to outside of Sea Island, but it'll be a regular fare if you go into Sea Island/YVR. Retarded? Yes. And of course, travel within the three Sea Island stations is free. I have heard time and time again how in Europe and Asia, airports are treated as if they are part of the transporatation system whereas here in North America they're treated as tourist cash grabs. We've got to pay for all those waterfalls and aquarium exhibits somehow, don't we?
nitronuts
^ well, noo.... Keep in mind that YVR did contribute $300-million to the project so that the Canada Line would go right to the terminal. Had the Canada Line not gone to Sea Island, YVR would likely have spent the same money to build a airport monorail from the terminal to Bridgeport Station. And it was definitely the right choice, given the seamless one-train ride from downtown to the airport.
inane
Happens in most cities with similar airport lines. No it doesn't. This is a cash grab plain and simple. Brutal.

So we pay a fee to use the airport, and now pay a fee to use the skytrain that we already paid for through fees. BRUTAL.
Common sense
No it doesn't. This is a cash grab plain and simple. Brutal. No it doesn't? Are you saying premium rates aren't applied to city-airport train systems, even though it does happen on the Airport Express in Hong Kong?

If they're going to do that, they should build a full two way bridge, and convert the tunnel for rail use. nitronuts
Evergreen SkyTrain line causing some worries Construction set for next fall Dave White COQUITLAM (NEWS1130) 2009-06-29 21:30 A meeting was held on Monday to share information with the public about the Evergreen line. (News1130 photo) COQUITLAM (NEWS1130) - The Evergreen SkyTrain line, slated to connect Lougheed Town Centre and Douglas College in Coquitlam, is now before the public. Some people in the Tri-Cities are worried about a repeat of the Cambie Street nightmare. Project planners say there will be no cut-and-cover construction used on the Evergreen Line. A bored tunnel will plow 55 meters below Clarke Road and Burnaby Mountain, with little or no impact on homes or businesses. Still, some aren't convinced. "It's hard to look forward to something like this. I think I'm really waiting for September so the whole thing is clarified. We're just a group of people (at the meeting), this is supposed to go to the whole community and also goes right through Port Moody, so we need more information. It's nice to have some but there's a lot of questions that haven't been answered." The line has received 90 per cent of its funding through partnerships. Construction is slated to start next fall. inside Olympic Village Station: http://www.canadaline.ca/gallery.asp?galle...&CurrPage=1 Same accent tile as Broadway City Hall Station: Good to see finished ceilings on the platform level: Lots of space for advertsiements:

tom_1
That's why I've always been afraid of staying on the SkyTrain at terminus stations. you would think this would happen quite often, either by falling asleep or by accident. I guess thats what the panic strips are for.
