Common sense
...or maybe just make it a zone 3 instead of a retarded hidden fee. wait...are there still buses running on Sea Island? The 424 got canned, but what about the community shuttles?
ahzdeen
Too bad this isn't Hong Kong, otherwise we can rally 60,000 people within a week to hold signs and protest on the streets. Guy with megaphone: "NO HIDDEN FEES FOR THE AIRPORT!" Crowd: "No hidden fees for the airport!" sounds like a koodo commercial

The airport community buses are canned, but there's still an employee shuttle. For Burkeville, they get a community bus to Bridgeport Station. BuckyHermit
sounds like a koodo commercial Word of the day: fare-evade-da-licious! ladii.canucklehead
So apparently, the exact opening date is August 17th, according to a Canada Line employee that I talked to at McDonalds.

ronthecivil
But above all, my apologies for the stereotype comment I made. Anyhow, some pics of YVR's new expansion! It opened this past week, and it's an observation deck of the taxiway/runway....it's before the gates, so yes it's open to the public. There are a few exhibits, including a model and flight simulator. pics are from flickr. It's gonna be a female dog keeping that scale model up to date! ronthecivil
It's for the long-term parking lot, and there should be retail and office buildings there as well in the future. YVR also has plans to make Templeton Station the drop off and pick up location for passengers, there should be some check-in facilities as well....which explains why the station is so massive....I have a feeling that they have plans to toll the road to the airport in the future. No. Maybe. One of serveral, not the. A common feature. See the maybe. If they were to toll anything it would be the Aurthur Laing Bridge not Grant McConachie, and they haven't even done that yet. ronthecivil
1.) So they'll be charging people extra cash to use EITHER the RAV line or the roads. that's great. 2.) If templeton is the new drop off and pickup location, will passengers still be forced to shell out 2.50 + 2.50 for the ride there? Nitro is fear mongering. I guarantee you that 99% of those people will ride for free.

ronthecivil
Just like how everyone else rides on the Skytrain for free right now? Hey, this isn't your average skytrain section, it's got heavy YVR imput. Nitro doesn't know what he has been talking about! A toll on Grant McConachie?!? YVR want to ENCOURAGE people to come to YVR, and like any other business model, I don't think they care how. Put on your thinking cap and put the clues together and you might be able to figure it out.

Probably not a good idea, considering that everyone will be taking the free ride that day and I'll be carrying 2 pieces of 50-lb. luggage... And being from Richmond, driving would be a more practical alternative (even if the ride is free). Edited July 21, 2009 by BuckyHermit

YVR is the only major international airport in the region, so a toll certainly wouldn't discourage people. You go to the airport to fly or to pick people up, you don't do anything but those two things. Most people certainly aren't going to be discouraged from flying by a small toll. If they're too cheap, then just take the free train shuttle from Templeton instead of driving on Grant McConachie.

They then used that money (partially) to build the new skytrain and are now gonna charge extra to use that same skytrain, I'm sure that won't slow traffic down. Based on their track record I'd say a toll on the bridges is a sure thing. Then they'll probably take that money from us, use it to expand a runway or something, then charge another fee to use it. We've been suckered twice now, why not a third time?

They might toll the Aurthur Laing if it becomes too much of a commuter bridge than an airport access bridge, but there are other way to deal with that that will happen first. They operate like a business that wants customers, end of story.

Just like almost every other airport in the world. For people that think it's some sort of rip off at least you can see quite easily they actually spend it improving the airport rather than pocketing a profit.
