ahzdeen
I just got back from Hong Kong a week ago. I like to share my experience in riding the MTR. The stations are clean and turnstiles prevent homeless people from riding the trains. I actually feel safer on a MTR than a skytrain. Really? in Korea, sometimes the homeless will buy a single ticket to the next station (i think it's like $0.60) and ride the train all day and beg on the train. It's out of the rain and the people can't run away from you.

The dreggs will just be begging at the entrance to the station, and once they have enough, get on anyways.

Who's to say you didn't take three loops around and then got off at the next station? Like all those sales people on the subways, must be nice to have $0.60/day overhead. Violator
SNC-Lavalin has won a contract to build Calgary's West C-Train LRT 8-km extension in a design competition: C-train platforms are gigantic canada line should have taken some pointers from them. nitronuts
^ 80-metre platforms would have been most ideal for the Canada Line, any longer like what Calgary will have would be overdoing it.

All of there platforms are on the ground which means they have available space. Plus a big thing is the downtown core is free.

(I am near a major homeless magnet in Seoul Station as well.) (Go Ducks!)

BuckyHermit
How about installing laser motion detectors over them, in addition to surveillance cameras? They kinda did that. The new ones don't have those rotating turnstiles things. They look like you can just walk right through them, but if you don't pay, suddenly two motion-detector flaps from the side pop out and prevent you from entering and a voice recording tells you to pay up. Common sense
So I'm a bit high on sugar (seeing as it's Halloween), but how about extending the 100 from Marpole/Marine Dr, onto UBC via SW Marine Dr?

Now you're thinking like me. They should do it. Look at how many UBC-to-Marpole commuters there are on the 480. The demand is definitely there. You should stay high on that sugar, it's not a bad idea. Certainly more effecient compared to how most Richmond people get to UBC.
old_time_hockey
You should stay high on that sugar, it's not a bad idea. Certainly more effecient compared to how most Richmond people get to UBC. What we really need is an Oakridge to UBC express. No stopping like those select B-Lines on Broadway used to do from B-Way Station to UBC. For me the Canada Line and then straight bus service to UBC and I would suspect most Richmond residents who work/study at UBC would be the welcome addition. I can either walk 15mins to Brighouse or drive to River Rock and park $2 for 24hrs. and hop on there. The thing that is really stopping me from getting on board full time with the idea of using Canada Line and bus to work is length of time. Stop, stop, stop all the time. Flaming Moe's
So when will the new transit system be installed? Just right before the Olympics or after? I am referring to the digital cards they are planning to give us where we can swipe them through their scanner.

The 43 is basically as express as you're going to get on that line.

My history might be a little hazy but I think translink had plans to put in a Bline service down 41st street that went to UBC (and I think metrotown in the other direction) with the buses they freed up from taking out the 98. Not sure what happened there but it was SUPPOSED to exist like right now.
