Buggernut
Easier said than done. There's a standard for the grading of ramps/slopes, and there's not enough room to put in a ramp in the small ticket concourse there. To rid of the stairs, it would require either a reconfigured (heightened) ticketing concourse and/or a new sloping overpass. Is there room for a coiled ramp there? Or an elevator? ronthecivil
Massive aesthetic and accessibility renovations for Main Street Station: They could build the station out of solid gold, but it would still make the walk from the station to the bus depot through that bum filled park as scary as before. ronthecivil
I don't care about the width at all, but it's the stairs to the overpass that needs to be fixed, I think. It shouldn't be too hard to cement over the stairs and convert it to a slope/ramp. The Central Blvd. crossing can be a bit treacherous at times, and the entrance on the Metrotown side of the street is a bit problematic (where the pedestrians and wheelchair users are "supposed" to enter is to narrow and too slopey). What's wrong with the stairs at the moment? And their would never be stairs built in a location that meets the standards for a ramp in the first place. I.E. you will never run into a location where you could just "cement over" a staircase.

BuckyHermit
Is there room for a coiled ramp there? Or an elevator? The current elevator leads you to street level, and then you have to navigate a short stretch of sidewalk, cross the street, make your way through the bus loop safely (which is already a problem because the designated walkway is too narrow for more than one wheelchair), cross a bus loop crosswalk, go up a ramp, and enter the mall. The fact that you even have the ask the first question already shows the problem that exists. And the second point really shows that perhaps they didn't think through the construction of that station well enough...

I don't go to Metrotown station like ever.
kurtzfan
the BC Transit buses (at least the double deckers in Victoria) are getting a new green-blue striped livery: http://flickr.com/photos/23842206@N08/2930554222/ http://flickr.com/photos/bcpaterson/2835066148/ When are we actually going to see them in Vancouver? BuckyHermit
Is the problem that the wheelchair access sucks or something? I don't go to Metrotown station like ever. At least it has access, which was more than what could be said for Granville Station not too long ago. But the problem is that the current accessibility has safety shortcomings in addition to the convenience factor, due to the way the station was made "accessible." luineul
Increased frequency of the local community buses in my area. YES! This should've happened a long time ago.

SlimCanucksFan
Tomorrow and days ahead would be interesting with wet snow, melting, and flooding roads later on. We need mini-seabuses to travel on the streets.

BuckyHermit
Parabola v2.0 So that explains why you fuss over having to transfer onto a Canada Line train from a bus so much. Nope, because post-Canada Line, there would be a 481 bus from UBC to my area. I'm just speaking for those who need to go downtown from here. Didn't you read his previous message ? Canada line doesn't help him go to UBC any faster at all. That too. But I'll probably be graduating before the Canada Line starts operation, so I might be part of the downtown crowd by then. nitronuts
What's wrong with the stairs at the moment? Wheelchairs? Strollers? I see people with them trying to push their way up/down those steps all the time.
BuckyHermit
Wheelchairs? Strollers? I see people with them trying to push their way up/down those steps all the time. Sometimes it amazes me that people even ask a question like that without seeing the answer.
Common sense
Nope, because post-Canada Line, there would be a 481 bus from UBC to my area. I'm just speaking for those who need to go downtown from here. If Translink makes routes like 410 or 401 (west of RC exchange) as frequent as 7.5 to 10mins/ bus, then it might be actually faster. Again, the only people that get screwed out of this RAV line deal are those who live west of Granville and use the 98 to go north/south on a regular basis.
