Game Of Thrones director admits the show’s timeline is “straining plausibility”

Of all the shocking moments in the latest Game Of Thrones, the fact that they all occurred in the same episode, even a 75-minute one, seems to be the one most throwing viewers for a loop. The truncated seventh season was destined to have more rushed or inconsistent pacing than usual, but lately it feels like we’re still trying to work out the math for the speed of ravens and Bran’s time spent north of The Wall. But “Beyond The Wall” had some of the most dubious timing so far, including Gendry hoofing it to Eastwatch at Usain Bolt speed and Daenerys swooping in to almost save the day. The director of the episode, Alan Taylor, hears fan questions about just how Davos knew which raven would fly the fastest, admitting to Variety that the timeline’s “getting a little hazy.”

As Taylor tells Variety, the Thrones team has been focusing on the “emotional experience” of Snow-cean’s Seven’s misguided mission rather than the particulars of how it unfolds. “We tried to hedge it a little bit with the eternal twilight up there north of The Wall. I think there was some effort to fudge the timeline a little bit by not declaring exactly how long we were there,” Taylor says, which “worked for some people, for other people it didn’t.” Noting that fans “seemed to be very concerned about how fast a raven can fly,” Taylor brings up “plausible impossibilities, which is what you try to achieve, rather than impossible plausibilities. So I think we were straining plausibility a little bit, but I hope the story’s momentum carries over some of that stuff.” Ultimately, the story took precedence over the pacing; there was just too much important stuff to address, though that doesn’t seem to include discussing just how stupid the plan to capture a wight was in the first place.

I'm telling ya, Bran, the old 3 eyed Raven and the Night King are the same person.  I got this all from watching their arms as they walk, now I am gonna walk like that in real life from now on.  At some point he'll warg into a dragon(not sure if it's frosty or the other two) and that will be what his future self(3 eyed raven) meant by "you will fly".

Maybe Robin Arryn will make him fly through the moon door?

This is my least favorite GoT theory. Not because it is really inaccurate (though I do think it is a bit) but because it is such a cheap plot twist.

I had to rewatch the episode to be sure, but in the scene before Benjen arrives to save the day, we see Longclaw lying on the ice and the eye of the wolf on the pommel is white. Just as Jon breaks the surface of the icy water, the eye changes to black.

Did anyone else notice that?

How does that work? The Night King and the 3 eyed raven are the same dude in different future dimensions, with the 3 eyed raven reaching back in time to influence his impressionable young self toward the good side.

Nope, good catch.

Not sure why people are still trying to figure out how Bran will fly...

He's already done it. He warged into a Raven and spied on the NK and his Zombie army, remember?

Edit: The real questions is: Can he warg into an undead Dragon?

Good catch. So I guess that means Bran can warg into a sword. I wonder if that hilt is carved out of wier wood?

Just re watched. You're right. Geez!

So funny that it's front and centre and yet so many people (myself included) missed it.

i didnt get super far into the books, but I had no idea they could warg into inanimate things? Or is the sword somehow "alive"?

this seems like such an odd thing to introduce so late in the series

I was hoping we'd see more of Benjen. It felt a bit underwhelming for him to show up and die in about 30 seconds.

I agree, it's crazy how they'll bring in an actor then asked him to come back in 6 years to say a couple of lines and then 1 year later to die lol.
