The golden era of tennis is coming to an end. Between Federer/nadal/Djokovic on the men's side and the Serena sisters on the women's side, tennis was golden to watch for me as a kid. I wonder if we will ever see such dominance in the future.

Quite often, an athlete will have a bit of a letdown after winning a big match as Felix did against Alcaraz...but not this time. FAA defeats Holger Rune, 6-3, 7-5 to win the Swiss Indoors Championship and his 3rd ATP title in a row:

Canada's Felix Auger-Aliassime defeated Denmark's Holger Rune 6-3, 7-5 in the Swiss Indoors final on Sunday for his third consecutive ATP Tour title.

Auger-Aliassime, the third seed in the tournament and ninth in the world, fired 11 aces and won 78 per cent of his first-serve points.

He also saved all three of Rune's break point chances while converting on two out of his own five opportunities. The Montreal native went all five matches in the tournament without giving up a single break point and only dropped one set throughout.

“It’s been an amazing week,” Auger-Aliassime said after the match. “Once again in the final, not getting broken all week… (It’s been) a long year, a long stretch of wins, and it’s not over. So hopefully I can keep going, but right now I’m feeling all the good emotions that come with winning a tournament. It’s amazing.”

Auger-Aliassime, who defeated world No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz in straight sets in Saturday's semifinal, is the third player this season to win an ATP Tour title without dropping a service game.

The 22-year-old Canadian entered the tournament after winning the Firenze Open and European Open in back-to-back weeks. He is now up to four titles for his career and on the year, having won the Rotterdam Open in February.

In other tennis news, Denis Shapovalov also made a final, but was beaten by Daniil Medvedev in the Vienna Open:

Canada's Denis Shapovalov fell short of winning his first title of the year losing 6-4, 3-6, 2-6 to Daniil Medvedev in the Vienna Open final on Sunday.

Shapovalov of Richmond Hill, Ont., won 78 per cent of his first-serve points and broke on three of his nine opportunities. The 23-year-old also fired six aces but committed six double faults in the loss.

Medvedev, the top seed at the tournament and No. 4 in the world, converted on five of his 11 break point chances while winning 72 per cent of his first-serve points.

Entering the match, Medvedev had not given up a break point at the event while Shapovalov had only given up two in four matches.

The Canadian is now 2-4 against Medvedev in career matchups. Shapovalov defeated Medvedev the first two times they played but has lost four straight to him since.

It is the second runner-up finish for Shapovalov within the month. He fell to Yoshihito Nishioka at the Korea Open on Oct. 2.

Despite Sunday's loss, Shapovalov is set to move up three spots to No. 16 in the ATP rankings.

All in all, a pretty great week for Canadian tennis.

Been super impressed with the progress Felix has shown this year. Four singles titles, a 16-match winning streak and team competition victories at the ATP Cup, Laver Cup and now Davis Cup. Seriously think he can compete for a slam next year.

Can't ignore the work Denis and Vasek did, too. They along with Felix won several important singles and doubles matches together to deliver this title. Only wish Milos could have been there to enjoy this.

Why is everyone talking NFL football playoffs when we have HOT AUSTRALIAN OPEN TENNIS ACTION!!??

Anyways… FAA is getting laughed out of the building.

Um, nope.

He won....a great effort to hang in there and his serve just took over. Molcan started losing and was rushing through...trying to push the pace a bit and Felix gained confidence as Molcan lost it. Was a great match considering he was so far behind but stayed composed enough to come back and win it.

Yup, just gonna eat my words… Although it did look pretty dire after 2 and a half sets. But good players like FAA play the match all the way through and bad players take their foot off the gas.
