The Abyss (1989) - 7/10.

Decent acting. No actor really stood out, but the characters seemed believable. Great special effects (especially CGI) for the time. In some scenes, the vibrant colours make the film come alive. An interesting and original plot. Has the stereotypical 80's "anti-nukes" message, but it seems heartfelt. A decent action-adventure/thriller flick.

~SPOILER~

I love the way the aliens' water/spacecraft were designed. It was a unique design, beautiful yet mysterious and unknown. Not a lazy copy of the old "green martian in a saucer" idea.

Eraserhead, David Lynch's famous film from 1977.

0/10.

Atrocious. The first 20 minutes were probably the most boring, most alienating and totally indescribable minutes of film footage I've ever seen. I literally stopped it right there and I refused to watch further. I understand now why the public was totally flabbergasted when this was released.

The Fugitive (1993) 8/10.

One of my favourite thriller "whodunit" movies. Harrison Ford is great in his role here; He doesn't overact at all. He had plenty of subtle moments where he expressed the loneliness and desolation of his character. A great plot, keeps you on your toes the whole time. The film doesn't insult the audience. Good action scenes, with interesting direction. A soundtrack that is typical of the 90's but it stands out. A definite must-see for anyone who likes a thriller.

I am Legend - 6.5/10. Not bad. If you like a disaster movie, you should go see this. It was unnerving to see all of New York City so barren and isolated. Visually spectacular, emotionally draining. At the end of the movie I really felt kind of sad and hollow. Very serious tone and not too physically enjoyable.

Spirited Away 8.5/10. My favourite animated movie. The Japanese influence in terms of the story and the visual themes is a welcome distraction from so much of the stale North American animation flicks I've seen. The story is really a triumph. Sentimental and authentic.

A River Runs Through It - 7/10

A bit disappointing...the story seemed kind of "empty". Brad Pitt is the only notable actor in it and because he's not the protagonist it has this weird atmosphere where you expect him to always be on screen instead of Craig Sheffer.

Haha, crazy. It's not the fault of the film, but it is peculiar seeing it in today's light. Sheffer's obviously a household name now!

Saved! - 8/10

Doesn't present Christians in the best light, they make them appear irrational and don't really offer a substantive argument from their perspective on some of the social issues that pop up in the movie, but nonetheless, a very good high school film.
