My top ten movies of 2010. Haven't seen True Grit yet. Honorable mention to IronMan2, Kick-Ass and Shutter Island

1. Black Swan - This movie was just so intense. From the start of the film to the very last second it was just unrelenting. By the end I felt emotionally drained yet the movie kept me thinking about it for hours afterwards. Darren Aronofsky, who directed the movie, is starting to put out some of the best films of recent memory. This movie is a sister film to The Wrestler, so if you like that one, you wont be disappointed with this one. Natalie Portman will win an Oscar for this role, mark my words.

2. Inception – Where do you even start to describe this movie? I guess you start by talking about the amazing score. Forgetting the thunderous, deep, dark tones is next to impossible. Joseph Gordon Levitt is clearly becoming one of Hollywood best up and coming actors, his fight scene in the hallway of the hotel is one of the best fight scene of the year. If you haven’t seen it, don’t bother with the rest of my list, get off your butt and go rent it.

3. 127 Hours – I am not sure why this movie didn’t blow up when it came out. The movie has a very simple premise, man goes hiking then man gets arm stuck in between rocks for 5 days. You know a movie is good when one actor is alone on screen for almost the entire movie and you never get bored. James Franco may not win Best Actor for this but he will get nominated. “Franco” and “Oscar” are two words I thought I’d never hear together…does that mean next year I will use “Talented” and “Anna Farris” together? Doubt it.

4. The Social Network – What great movies this year! The fact that this amazing movie is number 4 shows you how much quality there was this year. It doesn’t matter if you are too snobby for Facebook, the movie draws you in and keeps you there from the get-go. Trent Reznor does an excellent job on the score and even Justin Timberlake steps it up for his role as Sean Parker.#

5. Jackass 3-D – Its time to lighten the mood and dumb things down to the lowest level. #It’s not the cleverest and wittiest movie ever made but simply put, nothing made me laugh more this year. #Slow motion 3D camera made especially for this film brought kicks to the nuts to a higher level.

6. The Fighter – Markie Mark of Markie Mark and the Funky Bunch fame stars in this movie with an insane and neurotic Christian Bale. Bale makes this movie where as Mark Wahlberg sits backs in a less intense role.

7. Scott Pilgrim – A movie made for indy-hipsters, the ones who never pay for movies. Movie was visually really well done and the fight sequences just worked. I’m pretty sure I am in lesbians with this movie.

8. Machete – Best shoot ‘em up movie since “Shoot ‘Em Up”. Jessica Alba runs around with scantily clad clothes in the same movie as Michelle Rodriguez. Do I really need to say anymore? Oh yeah and there is explosions…a lot of them.

9. Unstoppable – Tony Scott could tell the story of a Calgary Flames 2010 hockey game and make it sound interesting. More then meets the eye with what seemed to be a simple plot line. Best surprise of the year.

10. The Town – Ben Affleck doesn’t suck balls anymore, get over it. Directed and starred in a movie that made my top ten list, what did you do?

the fighter - 7/10:

if you don't know the story, then it's ENTIRELY predictable from the 90 second trailer. and the characters are truly, truly unlikable. i just couldn't give a damn about any of them after a while. so i was just sorta waiting for it to end. acting was good, but not a stretch for any of them.

true grit 9.5/10:

also predictable in story, but amazingly unique in delivery. further proof that the coen bros are masters of their trade. easily my favourite directors in america right now

Outsourced - 8.75 (WAY better than the TV Show it inspired)

TiMER - 8.85 (Indie Sci-Fi Rom-Com... pretty cool concept and definitely original. It gets bonus points for the pseudo-intellectual and quasi-philosophical discussions it sparks up post watching, in a what-would-you-do type of way)
