"Hey Buck, thanks for the win! Now we just signed a former QB that turned his back on us to fail in the NFL because we don't believe in you! But we still hope you can get us a few wins while he learns our offense and works himself back into game shape!"

great idea.

We need a back up plan in case Buck gets injured, which is bound to happen. The guy is more fragile than glass.

Buck Pierce: tougher than a $2 steak, yet he's more fragile than glass

Desperate times call for desperate measures. While, I'm not a huge Printers fan, mainly because of attitude and so on, he is a hell of a talent when surrounded by talent. I don't think Buono wanted to call Printers, however, seeing as how Buck was subjected to at least 2 helmet-to-helmet hits which weren't called, I can see why he did it.

Casey Coming Back to Lions Den

Sept. 21, 2009

The BC Lions have been sidestepping questions the past week about bringing Casey Printers back to BC, but with the possible season-ending injury to Jarious Jackson, it appears the Lions are prepared to go back to the past and bring back Printers.

Wally Buono told Blake Price Monday morning that Printers will join the Lions on a practice roster basis, with no guarantees as to his future playing time.

"We want to bring Casey in to take a look at where he's at both physically, mentally, and emotionally," Buono told Blake. "A lot of that has to do with our quarterbacking situation - it's a little bit dicey and another injury would put us in a tough position. And when you look at how close the West is, we can't be in that position. So this is more for depth, this is more for getting the process started, and it's nothing more than that and I wouldn't want anybody to think more than that. We're happy with our guys, I've said that all along, but one injury and we could be in trouble."

Printers will start on the Practice Roster, with no contract yet finalized, but TSN reports Printers will be in Vancouver by as early as Monday night.

"Casey's agreed to all that at this point. We haven't pulled the trigger on it yet. Casey understands that it's a step-by-step (process) and he wants it to be a step-by-step. Obviously he wants to get into a situation that he feels good in. He likes it here in BC, he knows the coaches, he knows some of the players, and we know him and we know how to, hopefully, get him back to where he's comfortable and he's confident and he can be productive."

The deal had not yet been finalized by the start of practice, but Buono told Blake it will get done, perhaps by the end of the day on Monday.

"It could get (done) by the end of the day. I'm not going to put a timeline on it. This is not something that has to be done, it's something that we want to do and he wants to do, and if it gets done by today, so be it, and if it doesn't, it's going to get done in the next day or so. We want to make sure before everything is finalized that there's no hiccups. We don't want to have any kind of hitch in it so that he can come in, it's non-invasive, and he can start the process and go from there."

The 2004 CFL Most Outstanding Player has been out of the CFL since two forgettable seasons with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in 2007 and '08 after returning from the National Football League's Kansas City Chiefs.

But his on-field performance in his first go-around with the Lions was very good. He stepped in for the injured Dave Dickenson in 2004, and threw for 5,000 yards en route to being named the CFL's Most Outstanding Player.

But after guiding the Lions to victory in the West Final, Buono opted to start a healthy Dickenson in the Grey Cup against the Toronto Argonauts, a game the Lions lost 27-19 with Printers never seeing the field.

Printers was just on the TEAM1040, with Pratt&Taylor. He seems pretty hyped to be back, and it sounds like he's a changed guy. Again, actions speak louder than words so we'll have to see. But I've always liked Printers, more than Dickenson, more than JJ and Buck as well. Lets see if he can make a difference for the better, for this team.

I heard that interview....sounds like Casey's been humbled and now appreciates what it means to play in the CFL and that it isn't a given. Sounded good - has respect for Wally and the team and talks like he's got work to do to shake out the cobwebs. Isn't so full of himself anymore.

NAYLOR: SIMPSON TOLD BY BLUE BOMBERS TO STAY AWAY

According to TSN CFL Insider Dave Naylor of The Globe and Mail, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers have told disgruntled middle linebacker Barrin Simpson not to attend practice or meetings with the team.

Simpson has been an uncomfortable fit with Winnipeg since two weeks ago going public with his desire to be traded after he was asked to take a reduced role on defence.

However, he continued to attend practice and meetings while waiting hopefully for a trade.

But today head coach Mike Kelly said that based on reading the mood of the locker room, Simpson won't be back.

“We've asked him on several occasions to changed his position (on being traded),” said Kelly. “We're in a position where the locker room has spoken so Barrin won't be around here as he was the past two weeks. It came from our locker room, it was time for a change.”

Simpson believes the Bombers latest move may constitute a breach of contract.

“Basically they're telling me we don't want you to do your job anymore, you're not allowed around here anymore,” said Simpson, who was second in the CFL in tackles until two weeks ago. “They've told me to stay away so I have to stay away.”

“There's no grounds for suspending me – they've asked me not to come so does that terminate my contract: that is the question.”

“I have nothing bad to say about the organization. But if that's what you want that leaves no grounds to suspend me for not being here.”

Simpson has missed the past two games after playing Winnipeg's first eight contests with a turf toe injury. The Bombers placed him on the team's nine-game injured list against his wishes, so Simpson appealed to the league. Later in the day, the league released the following statement regarding the injury list and Barrin Simpson;

"After a review of all of the issues and a careful consideration of the situation, the Commissioner, in consultation with the Board and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, has determined the player in question will be placed on the one game injured list. The Blue Bombers have raised some important issues, and the interpretation of our by-laws will continue to be considered after the season."

Simpson's agent Mark Maren stated that he was glad that they can now move forward.

"Obviously we're pleased with the decision that the league made today," Maren told THE CANADINA PRESS. "We're just hopeful we all can move on from this and the Bombers will work towards fulfilling Barrin's request to be traded."

The Bombers have made two trades this week but didn't include Simpson in either of them.

"To be honest, there hasn't been that much interest in him," said Kelly.

Dave Naylor is a reporter for The Globe and Mail who appears regularly on TSN The Reporters.
