ESKIMOS THUMP ROUGHRIDERS IN PRE-SEASON ACTION

EDMONTON -- Richie Hall officially kicked off his career as the head coach of the Edmonton Eskimos on Wednesday by putting the boots to his old team.

Rookie Eskimos quarterback Jared Zabransky completed 10-of-14 passes for 109 yards and one touchdown as Edmonton beat the Saskatchewan Roughriders 45-12 in CFL pre-season action.

Did you even look at the depth chart for the game?

Some of the starters that didn't even dress or saw very limited playing time, include Geroy Simon, Paris Jackson, O'Neill Wilson, Aaron Hunt, Javy Glatt, Barron Miles, Korey Banks and Lavar Glover.

Let me put it to you this way: You bench both Sedins, Luongo, Mitchell, Kesler in favour of Grabner, Jaffray, Schneider, McIver and Bolduc. Do you think those 5 would be an accurate way of assessing what the 2009/2010 Canucks will look like?

One day after receiving his Grey Cup ring, linebacker JoJuan Armour was released by the Calgary Stampeders on Monday.

Stampeders head coach John Hufnagel was unhappy about an on-field incident during practice on Friday and decided to make the decision on Monday.

''It's never easy to release someone who contributed to a championship season, so I'm very disappointed to have to make this announcement about JoJuan today,'' said Hufnagel in a statement. ''We have a very clear policy on team discipline, whether it's on the practice field, during games or off the field. JoJuan chose not to follow that policy recently during practice and, as a result, I've made this decision.''

Early in training camp, Armour was sidelined with a heart murmur but had recently returned to the practice field.

The Miami of Ohio product started his CFL career with the B.C. Lions in 2004. After two less-than-spectacular campaigns on the West Coast, Armour came into his own as a member of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in 2006.

He recorded 68 tackles and five sacks with a struggling team and followed that up with a career-best 84 tackles, three sacks and two fumble recoveries.

Last season, Armour recorded 61 tackles, four sacks and one interception after signing with the Stampeders as a free agent.
