j0tun
I feel that this thread will stick around for awhile growing at a slow but steady pace. I doubt this thread will fade into oblivion like most. Agreed I will never let it die. Another awesome death metal band from Australia of all places: Be'lakor. Only two albums out so far but both are incredible and even somewhat fresh in a genre that was going stale. Their album released this year 'Stone's Reach' is currently voted the best metal album of the year on metalstorm.ee, and I would agree with that. Their songs follow no structure (intro, verse, chorus, etc), but simply flow in a natural and progressive form, with some songs containing as many as 20 or more different parts. Couple of samples:

Zamboni_14
I like Tarja, formerly of Nightwish, and whoever that luscious creature is that fronts Lacuna Coil I saw LC during the "Music as a Weapon" tour (with Disturbed and Killswitch) and holy smokes... I was just floored at how good LC sounded live. And this was in a venue where NOBODY sounds good live.

canucklehead666
today's big metal news... seriously, I can't stop laughing when I think about what might have happened if this actually were to have taken place 'World Painted Blood', the new release from SLAYER hits stores tomorrow... Crappy news for eastern Canadian fans though as vocalist Tom Araya is undergoing back surgery, meaning all dates on the Canadian Carnage tour are cancelled... matt74
November is set to be a rockin' month for yours truly. On Friday its along to M8 to Edinburgh to see Saxon who have Anvil in support. Next Wednesday, Deep Purple come to Glasgow. The following week sees a double bill of Motorhead and the Damned. And a week after that, Alice Cooper! Steve Danger
QUOTE (Steve Danger @ Nov 2 2009, 06:57 PM) My favourite part about metal is the ridiculous band names these guys come up with. ridiculous compared to what, exactly? Compared to life. Lawnmower Deth - Ridiculous Crippled Lucifer - Ridiculous Burning Tomb - Ridiculous Anal Apocalypse - Ridiculous (and funny) Morbid Angel - Ridiculous Gorgoroth - Ridiculous I'm not saying metal music is ridiculous (well, okay, a lot of the time it is) as it will always have a special place in my heart, but come on. Some of the band names those guys come up with are just silly in their attempt at being "evil" or whatever.

Arctic Monkeys, Nickelback, Limp Bizkit, Smashing Pumpkins, Chumbawumba... I could go on forever. Point is... it's just a name. Ultimately it's the music that matters.
