With the Kovalchuk trade, New Jersey is probably looking for defensive help. Assuming they don't find something equivalent to Oduya before the trade deadline (March 3rd), maybe they would be interested in acquiring Kevin Bieksa? He should be back by March and is comparable with Oduya. The Devils also risk losing Paul Martin to free agency and are a little thin at center ice. This clears up a lot of cap room for the Canucks.

To New Jersey: Kevin Bieksa and Kyle Wellwood

To Vancouver: 2010 2nd Rd Pick and 2010 3rd Rd Pick (Or some other combination of picks/prospects)

Next, Dallas is looking for a young goalie and Cory Schneider is a name that has been associated with their interest. If they continue falling out of the playoff race, they might be more willing to part with a guy like Steve Ott who is going to be a UFA this summer. Furthermore, in order to gain a potential #1 goalie, perhaps they would be willing to give up a guy like Matt Niskanen who, despite his poor statistical season, has a lot of upside and is still very young. They will also be losing a number of forwards to age/free agency, so they might be interested in getting a reasonably priced forward back.

To Dallas: Cory Schneider and Steve Bernier

To Vancouver: Steve Ott and Matt Niskanen

Finally, the Flyers are strong down the middle but with Simon Gagne's injury history and free agency after next season, maybe they are looking for a young top-6 potential winger to join JVR and Claude Giroux. They have also been suffering injury trouble along the blue-line and might want a more experienced defenseman.

To Philadelphia: Michael Grabner, Brad Lukowich, and Ryan Johnson

To Vancouver: Braydon Coburn and Blair Betts

Pretty close to the cap, but this includes a depth player at each position. We would still have depth on the farm, too: Oberg, Bliznak, Grabner/Shiro, Ellington, Endras, etc.

Raymond - Kesler - Ryan would be absolutely amazing. Our defense would be our best defense ever.

I love the proposals for Bobby Ryan, like JIMP love, but there's no way we acquire him and sign him for more than Kesler. Horrible, horrible way to treat Kesler.

If we give Kesler 4.5, we give Ryan 4.5 tops. I don't think that's impossible, but I feel if we were able to somehow pry him away from Anaheim, then Kesler's salary >= Ryan's salary.

The following is a pipe dream that I would like to introduce to get some discussion going.

Sedin Sedin Burrows

??????

Resign Raycroft at 1.1m/2 years

Resign Raymond at 7m/3 years

Resign Mitchell at 9m/3 years

Resign Kesler at 16m/4 years

Resign Hansen at 850k/1year

Sign Patrick Marleau 45million/8 years (front loaded)

Sign Dan Hamhuis 8m/ 3 years

Trade

Bieksa, Schnieder, Bernier, 1st round pick 2010

for

Pietrangelo and 2nd round in 2010 and 3rd in 2011

St.Louis gets the goaltender they desperately need as well as a top 4 dman that is ready to take a leading role on the team. Bernier will increase thier depth and offensive potency as he provides a big body on the 3rd line, similar to Boyes on the 1st and Backes on the 2nd. They also get another 1st round pick.

We receive a top prospect that we can slowly bring into the system playing minimal minutes on the third pairing. We gain our second in 2010 back and gain a 3rd rounder in 2011 which can be utilizes for further trading.

Raymond Marleau Kesler

Post your Canuck Roster/Off-Season changes if you don't want to make a thread, here, or if you have a line-up change suggestion, post it here as well.

My off-season changes;

UFA's

Mitchell - Walk unless one of the trade fails.

Demitra - Walk

Wellwood - Walk, unless Cody Hodgson still has a set-back.

Johnson - Walk, unless he can take a paycut.

Pettinger - Walk

Lukowich - Walk, unless he doesn't mind playing in the AHL.

Schneider - Walk, and good riddance.

Raycroft - Re-sign at .500, or get a different back-up at similar cost.

RFA's

Kesler - Re-sign at 4.1 million, over 7 years, Brendan Morrow type contract

Raymond - Re-sign at 2.5 million, over 3 years, could be more, but seems reasonable

O'Brien - Re-sign at 2 million for 3 years.

Hansen - Retain at similar cost, or trade his rights.

Glass - Re-sign at .500, 2 years.

Bolduc - Re-sign at .500, 2 years.

Bliznak - Re-sign at .500, 3 years.

Rome - Re-sign at .500, 1 year.

Funk - Re-sign at .500, 3 years.

UFA target

Hamhuis

Trade target

Seabrook

Niskanen

Sign Hamhuis at 3.25 million dollars, over 4 years.

Trade Schroeder, 1st for Seabrook (If Chicago is DESPERATE for clearing cap)

Trade Schneider, Bieksa for Niskanen, 2nd

Sign Niskanen, 2 years, 2.6 million.

D.Sedin [6.1] - H.Sedin [6.1] - Burrows [2.0]

Raymond [2.5] - Kesler [4.1] - Samuelsson [2.5]

Bernier [2.0] - Hodgson [.875] - Grabner [.787]

Glass [.500] - Bolduc [.500] - Rypien [.500]

Hansen [.500]

Edler [3.25] - Seabrook [3.5]

Ehrhoff [3.1] - Hamhuis [3.25]

O'Brien [2] - Salo [3.5]

Niskanen [1.3], Additional [.500]

Luongo [5.33]

Raycroft [.500]

55.242

If Seabrook trade fails, we can keep Willie Mitchell.

ASSETS:

Realistically the same top 6, with a different 3rd line. Excellent defense with a new young core of Edler, Seabrook, Ehrhoff, Hamhuis, O'Brien and Niskanen. Still got good old' Bobby Luo in net, and guys like Kesler, Raymond, Grabner, Bernier, Edler, Ehrhoff, O'Brien are only going to get better.

FLAWS:

Seabrook trade may not go through, therefore, Mitchell would be retained at 2.75 million (which would save cap) If Seabrook trade does go through, there is little cap-space, but the cap hit is with all the additionals on the roster. 3rd line may be a little soft, and inexperienced. No 1st round pick and Jordan Schroeder.

So basically without Seabrook -

D.Sedin [6.1] - H.Sedin [6.1] - Burrows [2.0]

Raymond [2.5] - Kesler [4.1] - Samuelsson [2.5]

Bernier [2.0] - Hodgson [.875] - Grabner [.787]

Glass [.500] - Bolduc [.500] - Rypien [.500]

Hansen [.500]

Edler [3.25] - Hamhuis [3.25]

Ehrhoff [3.1] - O'Brien [2]

Mitchell [2.75] - Salo [3.5]

Niskanen [1.3], Additional [.500]

Luongo [5.33]

Raycroft [.500]

54.492

Could drop down Hodgson [.875], which would give us a cap-hit of 53.617, so approximately 2 million for a 3rd line center. If we could get one at the one million range, then we'd be set.

Well's here mine, looking forward to seeing yours.

Offer sheet :)

Bobby Ryan 6 million for 6 years

Compensation: Vancouver 1st, 2nd, and 3rd round picks

Why Anaheim won't accept... I can't see them paying him more than Getzlaf and Perry. Ryan is a dynamic powerforward who has put up nearly a point a game since entering the league. I originally thought we needed our 2nd rounder from Buffalo back, but that doesn't make sense because the draft is before you're aloud to make offer sheets (I think?) The picks would then all come from a weak draft year in 2011.

__________________________

UFA signings

Brett Lebda (1 million for 2 years)

Dan Hamhuis (3.25 million for 2 years)

Summary...

We now got 2 dynamic offensive lines... We lose 3 draft picks in 2011, but that's supposed to be a weak draft anyway. We add some home grown punch in Hamhuis, and another guy with cup experiance in Lebda. Hansen finally has a roster spot to flourish.

Whatta yah think?

I think there is a higher chance of Anaheim not matching Ryan than Washington not matching Backstrom. But I share the same feeling towards the idea.

Another thought:

Kesler @ 4.5M

Raymond @ 2.7M

Bolduc @ 500k

Hansen @ 550k

Bliznak @ 500k

O'Brien @ 1.8M

Trade away:

Bieksa, Bernier, C. Schneider to St Louis for 2010 1st round pick (I hope). Pick twice in the first round or try to move up some more.

Sign:

Anton Volchenkov @ 3.5M

Dan Hamhuis @ 3.5M

Paul Kariya @ 1.5M - to support Hodgson and provide a decent threat on the 3rd line. A 6M Paul Kariya makes no sense, but he'd be great in a supporting role, has never won a cup, and is from here. Since we could be poised for a run next year, perhaps we could get him on board.

We roll a solid 4 lines that contribute in the ways they have to for this team to be successful. Defense has never looked more solid with the acquisition of Volchenkov (not to mention the ridding of Bieksa, Im sorry but if he can get back to the player he was as a sophomore this would be just as nice, but Volchenkov is a beast, plain and simple) and of course Lou in between the pipes this is one of the best teams all-around we have iced and hope we can do something similar this summer to what is posted above.

CAP HIT - 53.91 (including 3 spares)

CAP SPACE - 2.89

Basically same forward group from this year (which has been excellent), with an improved (hopefully) Michael Grabner, and a healthy back of Cody Hodgson.

Mobile, and defensively responsible defense.

Zybnek Michalek - Extremely good defensively, can shut-down top units, but more importantly, has more offensive gifts then Willie Mitchell, and younger. Has excellent size as well, and an honest disciplined worker.

Ryan Parent - 6 foot 3, smooth skating defenseman, with great shut-down potential, already is defensively sound. Can play the PK, and can lay out good hits. Excellent leadership skills.

Noah Welch - At 27, he's running out of chances to prove him self as the all-around defenseman he was touted to be. Regardless, a guy of his size (6'4) and skill-set, would be great as a 8th defenseman.

Patrick Sharp - Complete player, plays a solid two-way game, with great offensive instincts, and speed that makes him dangerous. Can play center.

Andrew Ebbett - Not much to say here, once upon a time he was putting up solid numbers, but bounced around on the waiver wire, and now is merely a solid depth forward.

With 2.89 million dollars of cap-space, we could add a solid 3rd line center. Also with this much cap-space, it could be possible, that we negate the 'Patrick Sharp' trade, and have 6.79 cap-space, and sign a #1 defenseman such as - Scott Niedermayer, Anton Volchenkov, Pavel Kubina or Sergei Gonchar.
