KevinB
I like it. Love Niedermayer and Johnson on the 4th line, two warriors with lots of heart. Bieksa's loss is more than filled by Volchenkov and Hamhuis, I don't know why King of Anarchy is saying not to trade them. Bernier hasn't done anything for the team this season, and even previous seasons. Mitchell's loss hurts more than anything, that shut down Dman role isn't quite as good, but who knows maybe someone will find that in their game still. Ihatetomatoes
My 2010-2011 Roster. Going into the offseason we have. Sedin(6.1) - Sedin(6.1) - Samuelson(2.5) 13.7 ______-Kesler(5) - Burrows(2) 7 Bernier(2) -_____ - _______ Hordichuk(.8) - _____ - Rypien(.55) 1.35 Salo(3.5) - Ehrhoff(3.1) Edler(3.25) - Bieksa(3.75) Alberts(1.2) - _____ 14.8 Luongo(5.3) 5.3 42.1 total _____ So 14mil to spend. Trades Mayson Raymond For Jonathon Blum + ? Kevin Beiksa and Steve Bernier for Alexander Steen + 3rd Re-signings Jannik Hansen (.8) Kyle Wellwood (1.2) Ryan Johnson (1) Willie Mitchell (2.5) O'brien(1.5) Signings Z. Michalek (3.0)? Lineup Sedin(6.1) - Sedin - Samuelson(2.5) 14.8mil Burrows(2) - Kesler(5) - Grabner(.7) 7.7mil Steen(1.7) - Wellwood/Hodgson(1.2) - Hansen(.8) 3.7 Hordichuk(.7) - Johnson(1) - Rypien(.55) 2.35 Ehrhoff(3.1) - Michalek(3) 6.1 Salo(3.5) - Mitchell(2.5) 6 Edler(3.25) - O'brien(1.5) 4.75 Alberts Luongo 5.3 Schneider 1.0 Total 51.7 (extra not added in) We'll have to see what happens in the playoffs but I think our downfall is going to be our d-core. Keeping Mitchell and adding Michalek (I think he's one of the most underated players in the league) gives a well rounded defensive corp. Plus the addition of Blum gives us an NHL ready defenseman ready to step in for injury. This is something the Canucks lack. Alberts can be tossed on waivers for all I care. Our Forwards are basically set for next year. The big change I made which lots of people will be upset with is trading Raymond. Its a gamble but I believe in order to have a more balanced team we need to spend that money of Defenceman and in my case we added a great NHL prospect ready to step into the league. Steen gives us an experience sizable (he's 200lbs) 2 way player to compliment Hodgson or Wellwood to bring in more 3rd line scoring which is also something I believed could be improved on. Just my $.2 P.S...If Hamhuis is available and we can fit him in I'd take him over Mitchell
i am a beast
Trade Bernier for a pick/prospect at draft/off-season. If our prospects shine during training camp/pre-season (Grabner, Hodgson, Shirokov, Bliznak) and Hansen/Raymond get re-signed, here's what the forwards I'd like to look like. Sedin-Sedin-Burrows Samuelsson-Kesler-Raymond/Grabner Raymond/Grabner-Hodgson-Hansen Rypien-Bliznak-Hordichuk Shirokov Re-sign: Hansen(500k-750k), Raymond(2M-2.5M) If we can't re-sign Mitchell (max I'd pay him is 3.75/1year), here are some potential replacements (3.5M-4.5M/3years): Volchenkov (28yrs) Dan Hamhuis (27yrs) Zbynek Michalek (27yrs) Volchenkov/Hamhuis/Michalek/Mitchell-Salo Ehrhoff-O'Brien Edler-Bieksa Alberts Re-Sign: O'Brien(1.75M-1.8M), Mitchell (3M-3.75M) The backup job might go to Schneider so... Luongo Schnedier Seems like a pretty solid team if you ask me. Didn't factor in cap hits but I'm 100% sure that's under the cap.

Patrick Kane
The proposal looks solid, except I doubt Malhotra signs. He's playing on the 3rd line, and getting chances in the top 6. Poised for a career year as well. I doubt San Jose lets him go, or he signs for that much only to play on the 4th line. Right now he plays with Marleau - Pavelski. Much better then Rypien and Glass eh?
lethunder
That's definately true, but I was thinking that if San Jose does its annual choke this year and we go deep into the playoffs he might accept and offer of $200K more than he makes now. Just trying to find a good UFA centreman to play on our 4th, other options for around the same price could include: Adam Burish Ryan Craig Adam Mair You think that's a good offer for Wheeler? Too much, too little?

lethunder
While the Bruins have certainly been in need of goals this year, I think it's mostly due to all the injuries they've had (Savard, Bergeron and Lucic have all missed significant time this season). Bieksa will also add some offense to their back end which they sorely missed this year with Wideman's performance dropping of huge. Either way I don't think the Wheeler proposal is too far off what it would take.

lethunder
Fair enough. I just want Wheeler. He is exactly the kind of player we're missing. We could add Shirkov into the deal (cheap and has shown an offensive capacity) instead of our 3rd. They might like that instead
BM24
I don't know really what the Bruins are needing/looking for. Not sure if they'd take Shirokov or if the Canucks are looking to deal Shirokov all.

grandmaestro-k
Hi all, long time reader, first time poster. Sedin/Sedin/Burrows Raymond/Kesler/Samuelson Grabner/Hodgson/Bernier Campbell/Thompson/Horidchuk Edler/Salo Erhoff/Seidenberg Sutton/Bieska Luongo Scheider top two lines stay the same as they are doing very well. 3rd line. Both grabner and Hodgson are NHL ready and a spot on the third line is ideal for them as they wont face top end defenseman and will only need to play about 13min a game. Also, their entry level salaries will help the canucks cap situation. Grabner brings speed and skill, hodgson brings skill and playmaking, and bernier brings some physicality and size to the line (He does forecheck hard and finish his hits). 4th line. Both Campbell and thompson bring more intangibles to the fourth line than johnson and rypien/glass. Campbell brings 200+ hits, 100 blocked shots, more takeaways than giveaways, having an off year but scored 14 goals last year, plays 2:30min shorthanded a game, can win faceoffs, can fight. Thompson brings 100+ hits, 100+ blocked shorts, more takeaways than giveaways, 53+ faceoffs %, 2:40min shorthanded, can fight. This makes the forth line more physical and serviceable for the fourth line. Seidenberg played well with erhoff at the olympics, put up 30+ points, 200+ hits, 250+ blocked shots, can play 22+min in all situations, 28 years old. Sutton - he is not a top pic of mine but is very big, tough, 200+ hits, 200+blocked shots. The new players i have listed are near the top in the categories i have listed for their position (ie, blocked shots, hits, time shorthanded..) These players bring many intangibles that the canucks can improve on. This brings an increase of about 500 hits and 500 blocked shots. Also it gives more option on the PK as kesler and burrows are now top line players and can not be relied on for PK, PP, and ES. these players are either UFA or RFA that are not having good seasons with their teams. Also these player will be able to fit under the cap give or take. aamazing
Vancouver Canucks 2010-2011 Looking at this season's Canucks, the offensive side of the game is all set. Assuming Mason Raymond is signed to a reasonable deal, all of Vancouver's top-six forwards are returning next season at manageable cap hits. Pavol Demitra, who missed a huge chunk of this season, will likely be replaced by Michael Grabner. It seems to me that the Canucks really only need a bit of tweaking on the third and fourth lines, a stronger defense, and more effective PK. Release Willie Mitchell Pavol Demitra Kyle Wellwood Ryan Johnson As much as I like Willie Mitchell, given how long he has been suffering from this concussion, re-signing him would be a huge risk considering how key he would be to the defense core. The others are no longer needed. Essentially, all of the UFAs-to-be can be let go, with the exception of Raycroft. Re-Sign Shane O'Brien - 2 years, 2.000m Mason Raymond - 2 years, 2.750m Jannik Hansen - 1 year, 0.650m Andrew Raycroft - 1 year, 0.600m The other RFAs can be signed for cheap and on two-way contracts. I've tried to be generous with the contracts. In a hypothetical exercise like this, it's probably better to overvalue players rather than undervalue them. I don't know if Raycroft would be willing to sign for 0.600m given his fantastic season. If it's not possible, then he can walk and a back-up can be brought in for minimum. I would, however, rather give Raycroft a slight raise and go with the proven commodity. He also seems like a good team guy. Sign UFA Raffi Torres - 2 years, 2.500m UFA Anton Volchenkov - 4/5 years, 4.500m I want a seek-and-destroy player on the third line. I've gone with Torres rather than Armstrong because I reckon he'll be cheaper and he's a natural LW, unlike Armstrong who plays the right side. Torres has decent offensive abilities and will be a good addition to an already strong PP. Anton Volchenkov is likely the most capable shutdown defenseman available outside of Paul Martin and maybe a healthy Willie Mitchell. While he doesn't bring much offense, he is a premier shutdown guy and capable of taking over for Willie Mitchell. He also brings in tons of size and the ability to knock players on their asses. The offense can be taken care of just fine by Salo, Edler and Ehrhoff. It should be possible to sign Volchenkov to a similar contract to the one Mike Komisarek signed in Toronto last off-season. If Volchenkov proves to be too expensive or doesn't want to sign in Vancouver, other options are available in Hamhuis, Michalek, or even just bringing back Mitchell. Trade To VAN: Jay McClement Roman Polak To STL: Steve Bernier Kevin Bieksa Cory Schneider This would be the trickiest part of this proposal, and might be difficult to pull off given how much highly STL fans think of Polak. The Blues, however, are in serious need of a capable goaltender and Cory Schneider is one of the best not currently in the NHL. Prospect goaltenders, however, don't often get back a large return; one just has to hope that St. Louis feels a strong need for a strong goalie. Bieksa replaces Polak on the right side for the Blues and vice-versa. The Canucks lose salary at the cost of losing Bieksa's offense and snarl (Polak is definitely a big boy with the ability to skate through a wall, but he doesn't have the swagger that a confident Bieksa has). The Blues add to their twenty-first-ranked offense with Bieksa and bring in a guy who can capably take Polak's twenty minutes a night and eat up more minutes. Imagine a Jackman-Bieksa pairing patrolling the blue line for the Blues. While one might claim that Bieksa is injury prone, it should be kept in mind that the two injuries to which he lost significant time were freak injuries and a terrible coincidence. Being sliced by a skate blade twice is not the same as a recurring groin or shoulder injury. STL showed interest in Bernier two off-seasons ago. Yes, one could say it was in retaliation for the Backes offer sheet, but keep in mind that no GM would be stupid enough to pull something like that for the sole reason of getting revenge. It would be too much of a risk unless there was also genuine interest in acquiring the player. Keep in mind also that the same front office is still working for the Blues. Although Bernier is getting past the age where one starts banking on potential but he's still a solid third-liner with size. He replaces the missing body from losing McClement. Although McClement is a pivot and stronger defensively than Bernier, Bernier--as much as Canucks fans complain about his hands--brings more offense than McClement. He also adds more size to the Blues' forward ranks, and Bernier is no slouch defensively, is solid in his own end and is a decent PKer. This is also all at 0.500m less than what the Blues offered him two years ago. Picks might need to be thrown in on either side to even things out, although I'd start with this as the basis of a deal. So this brings us to... The Roster Assuming a cap of 56.800m (same as this year)... FORWARDS Daniel Sedin ($6.100m) / Henrik Sedin ($6.100m) / Alexandre Burrows ($2.000m) Mason Raymond ($2.75m) / Ryan Kesler ($5.000m) / Michael Grabner ($0.843m) Raffi Torres ($2.500m) / Cody Hodgson ($1.696m) / Mikael Samuelsson ($2.500m) Aaron Volpatti ($0.613m) / Jay McClement ($1.450m) / Jannik Hansen ($0.650m) DEFENSEMEN Anton Volchenkov ($4.500m) / Sami Salo ($3.500m) Alexander Edler ($3.250m) / Christian Ehrhoff ($3.100m) Shane O'Brien ($2.000m) / Roman Polak ($1.100m) GOALTENDERS Roberto Luongo ($5.333m) / Andrew Raycroft ($0.600m) TOTALS ROSTER: 20 CAP ROOM: $2.065m BONUSES: $0.850m
