I have no personal days, 18 vacation days, and 25 EDOs. Sick time is calculated based on hours worked (about 16 days per year for me) and it carries over indefinitely to a maximum of around 1100 hrs. There are some random leave things too, like the extra week of paid vacation if you get married (found that out when my officemate got married 2 months ago).

They aren't preplanned sick days. That's just the maximum number of paid sick days you have in a year. You call in sick and then a day is taken out of your sick leave balance. If you need more time than you're allotted, you can use vacation time (sometimes), look into long term disability leave, or take unpaid time off. The limit is to keep people from abusing the benefit and calling in sick constantly.
