UFA Wish-list

1. Patrick Marleau. To become a contender, you need to step over the current contenders. Marleau was San Jose's best player against Chicago. He is fast, full of offensive and defensive ability and San Jose losing him would transform them into a far worse team, imo. While adding a 40-goal scorer would of course turn the Canucks into a bonafide contender.

2. Scott Niedermayer. It's obvious what our needs are on defense. It needs some proven all-star ability. This will benefit us in the short and long term, as Edler and co. will learn a lot from this hall-of-famer. I expect another round of "Niedermayer to Canucks" rumours this summer until he either retires or re-signs in Anaheim.

3. Sergei Gonchar. Pittsburgh without this guy is going to be a FAR worse team, imo. He's probably their most important player, as their power play is useless without him. It's doubtful that he'd want to come all the way over here, but one can hope.

4. Dan Hamhuis. Probably the most likely to actually happen, this guy is a Mitchell replacement.

5. Tomas Plekanec. We'd have the best 1-2-3 center punch in the league if it were to happen. Power play... kill penalties... This guy can do it all. If Montreal is stupid enough to let him go, let's pick him up.

6. Dennis Seidenberg. Only to pair with Ehrhoff. Go Germany!

7. Matt Lombardi. Actually, this guy should be higher up on the list. One of the fastest guys in the league, he can rack up points and play on the PK as well. He'd certainly be an upgrade on Droopy Dog, at least.

8. Shaone Morrisonn. Mitchell replacement.

9. Teemu Selanne. lol

10. Carlo Coliacovo. An affordable ex-Laff with some upside? Sounds familiar.

11. John Madden. Upgrade over Johnson.

12. Colby Armstrong. Still doubting that Atlanta let's this guy go, but this hard-hitting, two-way player still has a ton of gas left in the tank. But where does he fit in the lineup?

13. Craig Conroy. Just for lolz. Put Calgary's 'talker' on our 4th line.

14. Eric Nystrom. More depth.

15. Alexandre Giroux. Moose all-star.

16. Scott Walker. His return could see him being a bargain bin player. But he doesn't have much left.

17. Rob Blake. He'll probably retire, but he's still solid enough for another year.

18. Paul Martin. Should be higher up, but i doubt he'd come here.

19. Matt Cullen. Ditto.

20. Kim Johnsson or Henrik Tallinder. Although we're getting too many of these types.

But i'm thinking Gillis will aim for a trade we might not see coming instead. Esp. if he doesn't get a highly sought-after guy.
