لني
I realize now that no one wants to admit that he's pretty much established a trend and will thus be avoiding Bieksa threads like the plague. There's a few good pro-Bieksa posters, Baggins, EOTM, BedBeats, etc, posting meaningful positive posts, a couple pro-Bieksa posters ignoring any and all negative stats outright, Sharpshooter, LonnyBohonos, etc, (yet they have vaild counter arguments) and refuse any negative critique. The rest are complete caricatures. As for the anti-Bieksa posters, wallstreetamigo aside, let's just say they're not helping the discussion and 95% are complete trolls. I have no idea what you mean by the above? For what its worth I have said before I could care less if Bieksas on the Canucks or not as long as it doesn't hurt the team. IE trading bieksa for pucks so Aaron Rome can take his place. I realize the cap issues the canucks will have when healthy and someone has to be moved. Will it be Bieksa? Maybe. Prior to this thread I haven't really been involved in Bieksa discussions however some of the garbage I was seeing in this thread prompted my decision to do so. Im not a big stats person Im more interested in the specific plays instead of saying "Bieksa always makes weak breakout passes" or "Bieksa causes goals against". So lets discuss a specific play. I have done this with the Versteeg goal and the Kopitar/Brown goal. Stats do have some use. A few posts up you will see my comment about Bieksa should be having 4-ish points by now. This is based on the fact that throughout his career hes a .41ish PPG.
Duodenum
I haven't seen Bieksa play a game this good in years...WOW His first step to changing my opinion.

wallstreetamigo
I wish he would tone down on the running right down to the Oilers goal line every shift though. He is leaving forwards to play D in his absence and it doesnt take long for that high risk play to prove costly. Alberts and a forward have bailed him out a couple of times. A good game for his so far tonight though.

Do you not realize that a forward covering his defensive position when he pinches is in the game plan?

In a practical and pragmatic sense I agree with your thoughts....better to be safe than sorry. However, if he rushing the puck and doesn't have an outlet pass or can make a play, sometimes it's ok, even late in a game, to carry the puck in and either make a play or chew up some time. I agree with the principle ofwhat you're saying though. Anyways, he had a great game tonight....and we can find more things to be impressed about than we can to be depressed, concerned, worried, upset, angry, and disheartened about....i'm sure. If there are no other viable options availabel, then it is the right move. I saw a few times though where he went ahead when it really wasnt necessary. No big deal though. Maybe part of me wanted to make sure he didnt do anything that could be seen as costing a potential tying goal because it would be unfair for him to get roasted tonight for anything. He played a great game and deserves credit for that. If he played like that every night I would be very happy with his play, even with the high risk stuff late in games. And I hope that some consistency will develop in his game over the course of the season. There'll be times when has night like this and there'll be times when he has night opposite of this. I just hope and knock on wood that there is an evenness to his overall game. As long as he keeps chipping in now and then and focusing on his defensive responsibilities, i'll be satisfied. He picked his spots pretty well to play an aggressive game offensively tonight (of course, I wanted to see him tone it down a bit at the end there, but overall really good decisions), but at the same time kept it pretty simple on defence. I think that is really the formula for success with him. Hopefully this post and my last post will at least show some that I am not a blind Bieksa hater and that I can give him credit where its due......
