hank&dan
1. Most posters on here would disagree. 2. Nobody has ever said Bieksa is tougher than Rypien so stop making stuff up to help your useless posts. 3. I used the Rypien example because you wanted a scenario where he stuck up for his teammate. #1 Protector? Or did I say he sticks up for his teammates on the ice and the in the media. 4. He doesn't drop players on our goalie. And the odd time it does happen, it is no more than any other dman. Any luck finding a clip of any Bieksa physical play thats not a fight? Don't lie, I know you looked. haha
sampy
Find a Bieksa hit on youtube lol. You'd think a player as "physical" as Bieksa might have 1, just 1. Bieksa is softer than a pillow stuffed with bunnies. You keep clinging to that Richards fight, 11 months old and counting... This thread is more about "what have you done for me lately". Over and over the answer is nothing. Bieksa soft?? Now your just grasping for anything or showing how little you know. What have you done for me lately?? That is exactly what a classless fan would say. Lets boo are own team like Toronto does with Phaneuf becase that will help the player get out of his funk. If we go by your bs views we would get after a player everytime he goes into a funk. That would make for one unhappy fan because there is always players like that. You and Hrudey should be put in a room together because you are exactly who he was talking about yesterday. Thanks for showing your true color. Nice sig, your not biased at all. wallstreetamigo
Before his injury, which is the bulk of his games last year, he had 5 fights. When he came back from his injury he was playing hurt and catchup to get ready for playoffs. A 20 minute dman isn't supposed to fight and when we had all those defense injuries down the stretch last year and were fighting for the division, how is Bieksa sitting in the box for a period helpful. Not everyone but I am sure his reputation has deterred a few possible dance partner. How many 170 ponds guys does Rypien fight? Not many, and why is that? Reputation. I never said Bieksa doesnt fight (or that he isnt a good fighter when he does) nor did I say he doesnt hit. What I said was that people should stop overestimating him in those areas. He is not a punishing hitter, and never has been. The frequency of his fighting seems to be dropping significantly lately, having not fought since last December. the most feared fighter in the league. He is not a great shutdown dman, he is serviceable when he has to fill in and plays a simple game, but is not a great permanent solution because of his lack of defensive consistencyHe is not. Just be realistic and dont make him out to be something he is not.

Don't lie, I know you looked. haha You could ask that about a lot of dman and you wouldn't be able to find much, youtube doesn't have clips from everything that ever happened. I can't access youtube right now but I am sure if you went on there you could find a Bieksa tribute video with some hits on there if you really want to see a hit. bbllpp
Very intereseting statistic. Thanks for posting. I always like to see stat break downs like this that show a different perspective. I'm not surprised that Edler is so low, I don't think he's been playing to his potential this year.

Cheers,

Ramone
No worries and thanks for the feed back! What are you talking about? You are the one who told me to go on youtube to look at Bieksa hits, guess what? THERE ISN'T EVEN ONE. If a funk has been trending for over a year then yes it's fair to start calling for change. It's been proven that more goals are scored against the canucks than for the canucks with Bieksa on the ice. You do realize that you need more goals than the other team to win, no? I agree with your post though, he is not a punishing hitter and is not dropping them as much, probably because of the responsibility he has on the ice now. I am sure AV doesnt want any regulars sitting in the box for a period. Especially with Hamhuis and Salo out (as well as Ballard for a while). Defensively he is not the greatest but he isnt as bad as some of the mindless posters on here post but he does seem to be getting better as the season progresses. Offensively he has made some great reads and some not so great reads. More good reads than bad, just the bad are highlighted. He seems to be picking his spots better and better. Nobody has ever said Bieksa is our #1 dman, I am saying he is usefull and is a good teammate to have.

From the results of his hits I would think he is probably one of the most feared guys out there. I remember at least 3 clean hits that put guys in the hospital last year (not Cooke like head hunting hits).

I am glad you speak for most of CDC now.......my advice would be that if you aspire to be the CDC spokesman, you should first be objective rather than being a Bieksa homer. 2. You are using Rypiens intimidation factor to defend Bieksa. The two are not comparable in intimidation at all. 3. How is following him down a tunnel (along with numerous other players, mind you) an example of defending a teammate on the ice? Also, EVERYONE on the Canucks said exactly the same thing about the incident, almost like they were instructed what to say. 4. Watch some games and you will see just how ineffective Bieksa is at clearing the crease.

Sharpshooter
I remember vividly him trying to hit Hemsky, and bouncing right off of him. I mean, it wasn't Penner, McIntyre, Stortini, or Smid...it was Hemsky! Bieksa has nearly 15 pounds on him. That's what happens when you hit a guy from the side who has the boards beside him to absorb and reflect the force back out. Watch the hit again, and you'll see Hemsky get hit, then hit the boards and Bieksa, essentially getting the pressure reflected back at him causing him to spill because he wasn't ready for it or because he didn't have the same object behind him to absorb the force. Newton's Third Law of Motion....the more you know.

Lets take a look see if theres any for the other nucks d-men in their careers. Better yet, lets just say in the last year or so. Edler Hamhuis Ballard Rome Alberts I'd say any "physical" D Man thats been in the league for 4 years has at least ONE. I hope "Bieksa throws big hits" isn't an argument anymore. You make it sound like I don't like the whole team. I love the Canucks, the only player on the team I dislike is Bieksa. For the reasons I've repeated a million times in this thread. It's a thread about Bieksa, if you don't want to hear it, don't come here. Bieksa makes the Canucks a worse team (proven with goals for vs goals against), in turn I don't like him. Sharpshooter
haha Bieska came in with a full head of steam and got put right on his a$. I don't have a clue where some of you people get off saying Bieksa throws big hits. Please someone show me one. I'm not kidding. Edit: ANY big hit from his entire career. Right off the bat, in this vid Bieksa nails....oh would you look...Hemsky. And another one right off the hop/ And just for your viewing pleasure... And another one right off the hop/ And just for your viewing pleasure... Oh comon. I remember that hit, Hemsky is reaching up to catch the puck, a six year old couldve knocked him over. Thats the only hit in all of them, those vids are ALL fights. Old ones at that. He has ZERO single hit videos. Unlike the other 5 canucks I just posted... Anything thats not a compliation? Nope Wait, you did read that I was asking if there was a vid that WAS NOT a fight right?
