Kevin Bieksa you are really...

I think that some of his aggression can and has directly translated into being physically punishing. Now as for consistently, that a subjective term. I could say that if one doesn't throw a a physically punishing hit, every shift, they aren't being consistent, or every period, or every game....see the slippery slope of subjectivity?

I think Bieksa is a more aggressive hitter than any of his d-mates, in the past, as a Canuck. That doesn't mean much, as most haven't been here as long as he has. So, that's not really a great point to begin with. Conversely, neither is stating that others, including the new guys are more consistent hitters as Canucks....because 2 have played literally one handful of games this season, Alberts takes half as many penalties from his hits as he makes and hasn't been with us for more than 40 games in his entire tenure with us, and Edler, has only just discovered his consistent hitting prowess, at the incessant urging of coaching staff, near the end of last season and the playoffs. So yeah, in my opinion, Bieksa is still our best hitter as a Canuck.

And comparing alberts to Bieksa in the hitting department is a mismatch...as are their sizes and weight class. Alberts should be consistently doling out more punishing hits than Bieksa, look at the size of the bugger. Pound for pound...I think Bieksa has a case for being the subjectively defined "best" hitter.

Consistently to me means more than a handful of times per year, which is basically what Bieksa has done so far in his career, and in many different situations, not just when an opposing player is defenseless. The vast majority of his hits are actually bumps that take guys out of the play. Those are still good hits if they do their job of disrupting the play, but they are not physically punishing. You have the right to your opinion but my opinion is that Bieksa is not our most physically punishing hitter (pound for pound or not), nor is he our most effective hitter overall either.

And sampy did not say pound for pound, he said he is the most punishing hitter period. And that is patently untrue no matter how you slice it. All subjectivity and size/weight issues aside, there are at least 3 more punishing hitters on this team alone. And a strong case could be made that Edler may not be consistent with his hitting either, but in general his hits are more physically punishing than those of Bieksa. Rome as well can dish out big hits although more like Bieksa in the fact that they are not very often.

Hamhuis and Ballard are similar size to Bieksa, but both are far more punishing with their hits when they make them. Not only do they generally hit a lot more and at more effective times, but they hit bigger when they do as well. Part of that is the nature of hipchecks, but even open ice and along the boards, they make bigger hits that are more effective.

In the past would Bieksa have been considered a top hitter on this team? Perhaps. but not now, imo.
Prove otherwise. He had 3 assists last game. The only game he's been on the stat sheet positively. Also, the only game he didn't register a single hit. 1 decent game hasn't righted the ship. Against a mediocre team at that.
So far this year Bieksa has had

5 + games

3 even games

3 - games

The only thing getting worse as the year goes on is the Haters' abilities to point out how bad Bieksa is

I'm pretty sure he's replying to "I think Bieksa is a more aggressive hitter than any of his d-mates, in the past, as a Canuck."

I still didn't say more punishing. Nice try though.

Best hitter must go hand in hand with someone who has good timing. Bieksa has notoriously poor timing.

Prove it.
Ohlund isn't on the team currently, so that point is moot.

And I didn't say Beiksa was more punishing than Alberts. I said, in my opinion, I think he is currently our "best"(define that however you like, as I have) hitter, and has been so consistently for a longer period of time than Alberts, considering Alberts has played only 35 ish regular season games for us. And, I also said I expect alberts to be a more punishing hitter than Bieksa, as his size and weight warrants such a distinction.

If I said Bieksa was more punishing than Alberts, please quote it for me in your next response.

I hope this clears up any misunderstanding or misperception for you.

Edit - I may have not have clearly indicated that I meant Bieksa is the most aggressive hitter than any of his <current> d-mates, in the past as a Canuck.

Still I said, consistently aggressive and not more punishing..again, partail blames lies in my omittance.

missed your pound for pound comment. Sorry about that

Just because Hamhuis, Ballard, and Alberts have not played many games for the Canucks does not mean they are worse hitters than Bieksa. That is just not a valid argument. All have a long history in the league as big and effective hitters. They were all better than Bieksa before they signed/were traded here, and the minute they put on the Canucks uniform, they passed Bieksa based on their history.

You cant talk about Bieksa and his history then discount the historical evidence with the other guys. That is cherry picking your supporting facts to the nth degree.

You are trying to slip one past us Sharpshooter..... ;)

Edit - I may have not have clearly indicated that I meant Bieksa is the most aggressive hitter than any of his <current> d-mates, in the past as a Canuck.

Still I said, consistently aggressive and not more punishing..again, partail blames lies in my omittance.

Alberts and Ballard are both easily more aggressive when it comes to hitting than Bieksa is. They are both more responsible about when they go for those hits though, which could be misconstrued as not being as aggressive.

There is smart aggressive and stupid aggressive. Bieksa does both. If you are talking smart agressive, Ballard and Alberts beat him hands down.

Kevin Bieksa is our top Defenceman .

This is why he wears the A.

What other D man on our team is wearing the A right now ?

Clearly AV thinks the world of Juice and he is the top D man on the Canucks.

The haters on CDC can go and suck a lemon. I trust AV and MG more than i trust some computer nerd with no girl friend and too much time on their hands.

Most punishing hits are when the other isn't expecting it....or is "defenceless" That why they are called "punishing" hits, for the most part. Those hits punish a player for not keep his head up, or not keeping it on a swivel, or admiring a pass, or umpteen other reasons on why he got decimated. If |Bieksa doesn't catch as many guys in those situations as others do...then...meh. You can opinionate if you'd like to draw a conclusion that goes against Bieksa on that basis. Whatever.

I don't speak for sampy and I'm sure he wouldn't want me to. If you have a disagreement about what sampy said, then I suggest you take it up with sampy. My name is Sharpshooter and I didn't slice anything from his loaf of opinion. I can only defend what I have said. Fair enough?

Keith Ballard has played only 6 games for us, and has one or maybe two hipchecks that I recall(one for sure on Niclas Wallin of S.J. from the preaseason) I don't recall any other big hits from him during the regular season so far....though i'm not denying there aren't any, as i'm sure there are some. If you find any from his 6 games with us, I'd be glad to see them. But, our "best hitter", I don't think you have a case yet with such a small sample size, with his history as a Canuck, over Bieksa's.

Hamhuis....God I luv that guy...i'm talking man crush territory...except for his whole Bible Belt Brainwashing...but I digress...the issue I have with him is the same as Ballard...he hasn't been here as long as Bieksa, has made as many hits as a Canuck as Bieksa, and so doesn't have much of a resume as a Canuck than Bieksa. I have no doubt hoever, that he will soon be our most prolific and hopefully most punishing hitter, aside from my expectations of alberts. Again, I luv that little white boy.(No homo)

2010-11 Season.

Keith Ballard - 9 hits -- average hits per game = 1.5

Dan Hamhuis - 6 hits -- average hits per game = 1.2

Kevin Bieksa - 16 hits -- average hits per game = 1.45

So the KB's are both about equal per game, and Kevin is higher in total hits. It hink they are all pretty good hitters, in my estimation.

But i'm sure you'll nit pick something.

Do you honestly "recall" any big hit from Bieksa this year? Do tell

Ballard, Alberts and Edler have more hits per game than Bieksa. What are you showing with that stat?

Yes I do....one that still stands out for me was the double hit where he and Manny both laid their respective checks out on their behinds next to each other, one right after the other, a few games ago.

It's called a response...I was giving one. Like O thought you were when I asked you to prove your assertion of Bieksa's proven poor timing. I'm still waiting.

While you mindlessly flail about, trying to recover from your last smack down.

You mean the one that took 2 canucks out of the play to one opposition player? Good trade off. Good timing.

As I said in the above quoted post, their history as Canucks is a useless red herring to make a pro-Bieksa argument. That is like saying Henrik and Daniel are better hitters if they have more lifetime hits as Canucks then Malhotra or Torres do.

Historical evidence is not team specific.

Wallstreet answered for me. You yourself said Bieksa can be overaggressive.

OMG.......somebody please get Sharpshooter, Lonny Bhones, EOTM, or even vwnuck on the line........you know, pro-Bieksa guys that can actually spring forward a viable argument and back it up......there is actually no way to respond to this other than you obviously know nothing about hockey if you think having the A is the determining factor in a players skill level relative to others.

Geez......you really believe that having the A makes him the best dman on the team by default? God, what can you even say to someone this obtuse?

EDIT: on the plus side, at least you have stopped your ridiculous rant about Bieksa being the captain next season.
