Sharpshooter
100% agreed on this. Not up to the standard of the last few games, but overall a satisfactory effort is a good way to describe it. He did look really bad on that one that ended up in our net though.... He obviously didn't look too good and it led to a goal. But, many others had brain farts as well, that just by some sheer luck or great goaltending didn't. Henrik Blowing a tire at the blueline on a PP, Alberts blowing a tire in the first., Erhoff getting up to some funkiness of his own tonight. Torres taking an illtimed penalty, right after we just finished killing one...and on and on. We were fortunate to win tonight...we deserved it, but were still fortunate. Bieksa did alot of things right tonight and a couple things wrong....much like the rest of the team as a whole. Except for Manny...that beautiful bastard was lights out tonight from my vantage point. It definitely did seem like one of those "comedy of errors" type of games didn't it..... Anytime they can beat Detroit, it is fortunate for sure. I agree about Malhotra......how damn good is this guy? I remember when we signed him many were questioning it.......but he is a perfect fit. It was nice to see him finally bury a breakaway goal as he has had a few already this season and not managed to pot them. Our 3rd line is working for every goal they get, that's for sure. Wisp
this game was a bit weird in terms of defense. I don't know if it was the pace, or the defense taking a back seat to offense.

Comedy of errors is a good way to put it...but they were few and far bewteen, for the most part. It was a still a pretty good showing from the dmen and most fowards. Yeah..Manny is all that and a bag of chips...I thing the apprehension wasn't so much him when he signed, but his salary and its justification. Well, it fricken justified right about now eh? I watched the game at Earls in N. Van, with my family,, so wasn't able to give it 100% attention, but I have to admit Bieksa wasn't brutal. Malhortra though, should have been first star, my son + daughter both independently were saying that and they both know their hockey.

Atta boy canucklelion, way to jump off the troll wagon, now we just need to work on hank&dan but as always he seems to disappear after games. It seemed like every dman had a an error or two last night but every dman also contributed to some good plays. Bieksa is no superstar but he is a good character depth guy to have and will get better as the season rolls. Malhotra is a stud. I was one of those questioning his $2.5 and hoping he was worth it but man is he ever. He single handedly has turned our pk around and with Torres and Hansen on the 3rd we are looking nice and deep. On that note, Hansen has also looked good, especially defensively.
Dortmund
Does it really matter if Kevin gets goals or not? I haven't scream at him on TV for awhile now, he's playing the exact role he should be in and that's not top 2 pairing. He was never that at any point in his career, he doesn't have the size and skill set to be that. I've really enjoyed watching him and Alberts play this year, the only thing Juice needs to work on is when and when not to hold the point. If we trade him, it better be to the Eastern Conf. because the guy will haunt us in our own.

I think he's starting to settle his defensive game down, after a long time of being suspect in his defensive coverage in his early years. I also think though, that his contributions offensively, need to stay up there for his true value to the team to shine through. The guy is an offensive dman and needs to pick that part of his game up. He's trying and getting his chances so I'm not too worried. It's a matter of time. I just want to see those oppurtunities capitalised on, without any regression in his defensive play. If we get both sides of that coin out of him....well...i'll be a happy camper. And MG....will have some hard choices to face come Jan or Feb, or whenever Mr. Fragile: Handle With Care gets back.

BedBeats™2.0
Agree but in the interest of keeping the discusion fair you need to be able to compare. I mean bitching that he does something that the rest of the team also did doesn't breed good conversation. IMO most of the D tonight had moments of WTFAREYOUDOING. For me it was kind of a weird game to watch. Nearly everyone on the roster had a sketchy sequence of play where the top of my butt crack broke into a sweat and my fists started clenching ......then they would make up for it moments later by getting their act together. But yeah....even from the Wing's side of things they made some uncharacteristic plays, and they didnt look at all that tired or flat. It was a weird, but entertaining game to watch. That Bieksa kid isnt too bad eh?

I completely agree with this, Sharpshooter (other than the unnecessary derogatory comment about Salo - I mean, Bieksa has missed just as much time the last few years and injuries are injuries). I think his true value is on the offensive side, but I am actually pretty happy seeing him take the time early in the season to really concentrate on improving his defensive play. He still has some steps to take there, but the signs are encouraging right now overall. If he can get into the defensive groove consistently, and keep making good decisions on pinching and jumping into the play, the points will come. I would rather see him focus on his D right now though.

I din't mean it in a derogatory way...I feel bad for the guy...he's one of my faorite Dmen as well. Bieksa's injuries are as a result of on ice, and I can live with that...same thing with Sami, most of his injuries are on ice, and I can live with that....ouch ruptured testicle....still hurts thiking about....but this last injury has frustrated me beyond belief. We should be solidifying our lineup instead of playing musical chairs and the whole 'who goes, who stays game' ....so I'm a bit disappointed in his latest injury and its long term ripple affect on the team and lineup solidity. Still, injuries are injuries, I hear ya....and perhaps there are silver linings to be found...actually, i'm sure there are. Again, i'm in a lazy, hit the hurt kid while he's down mood...and like I said, I'm not winning humanitarian of the year today.

I knew it was something like that rather than an insult because you dont tend to say that type of stuff about Salo. I think to Bieksa supporters the Salo injury has a huge silver lining. Based on the cap situation and without that injury to Salo, it is highly likely that Bieksa would have been traded in the summer. It really did seem to be shaping up that way with the acquisitions that were made and the amount the team was over the cap. So, Salo getting a frustrating injury (I agree about that one) was probably what has given KB the chance to prove himself again. As long as we are looking at the bright side here.... Man, the ruptured testy and coming back to play the next game is legendary. Although did you see how pasty white and sweaty he was that last game again CHI? I gained a ton of respect for Salo and also a bit for the Hawks (a TINY bit....lol) because they did not really go after him that game. I still haven't forgiven AV for not dressing 7 dmen in those circumstances though.... Once Edler went down, the Canucks had no chance. On that note, if it comes down to the fact that we have all our D healthy with both Bieksa and Salo for the playoffs, do you think AV might dress 7 D for games? Given he barely uses the 4th line in the playoffs, could you see Bieksa taking shifts as 4th line winger and also playing some shifts on D as necessary with PP and/or PK duty? Not an ideal solution for most teams, but it might make sense to limit the ice time for Salo a bit too to keep him healthy. Something to think about for sure. I think Bieksa would be a better 4th line winger than Rypien or Shafer......

And i've got a tonne of respect for Salo, as a player and person. His skill is undeniable and he's a workhorse..in all the postive ways one can be for a team. The testicle thing will go down in legend and lore...only because like you said he came back....even pastier and whiter than normal...but hey, he came back....and I don't even want to think about the freezing needle job the trainers had to do to get him out there....*shivers* And you're right about the injury being a boon for Bieksa this year...I was completely prepared for Juice relocation this summer...as much as I didn't want to actually see it happen. And now, the air of uncertainty still lingers...about Salo and KB, and I guess it bugs me having to look over the situation's shoulder to see what exactly shape from KB's play and Salo's eventual return, when I was hoping to just see a healthy d-squad this year. What can you do though, eh? Well, it's 12:05pm, i don't think it's in bad form to go and crack a cold one...mmm... and cold pizza...excellent.
