RUPERTKBD
As much as I like Juice and want him back in the lineup, I think that the current .500 pace is more a result of a team that's basically home and cooled going up against a team that's fighting for their playoff lives on a nightly basis. The Canucks have looked sloppy and disinterested for stretches of games in the last two weeks, and it's showed on the ice. (especially with the offense) The good news is that they have been in every game in that stretch. I believe they'll be able to find their form once the games start to mean a little more. Shift-4
This team needs a heart and soul guy like Bieksa back in the lineup, in the homestretch. It's not just his play that will be valuable...but his presence. I think we can clearly see a defence that is somewhat leaderless and doesn't have that one guy to rally around. I think Bieksa was that veteran guy on the blueline, that filled that role. It truly shows Bieksa'a off ice value....and why we should re-sign him. Can't wait for him to get back....and for some semblance of normalcy back on the blueline. ! I was just about to note that the relation to his absence and the Canucks current funk is not lost on me. LeafsBlowPouch
On a side not, it's interesting that right after Kevin Bieksa gets injured the Canucks go below 500 hockey. I came in here to say this. JUICE - the difference between President's Trophy locks and a sub .500 hockey team! LOL Suck it haters.
Champions of Nothing
The only reason the Canucks are playing so lackadaisical right now is because they don't have the mentality to cover for Bieksa's brain farts. If Bxa was in the lineup Hamhuis and the other D would know they would have to play tighter to make up for Kev, and without him they are way to comfortable. It's only a matter of time before they realize this and pretend every game is like Bieksa is giveaway pucks away, and everything will be back to normal. Gillis will also realize this soon and make sure everyone else does as well. If it doesn't work soon maybe he will just put a cardboard cut-out alongside Hammer to trick the team, and he would have less giveaways as well. Bieksa will be gone in the summer and some poor team will regret giving him a one-way contract this summer due to his inflated numbers. His +/- means nothing. Remember, Bxa sucks. Just look at his career +/-.

True...so true. He really lacked the essence of his madness, his joie de buffoonery, as it were. Good observation EOTM, hopefully CoN comes back with a better showing and impersonation of asinine asshatery. One can only hope he lowers himself to the challenge. canucklehead44
Bieksa has eaten up some important minutes this season. Ehrhoff seems to get worse playing big minutes, and guys like Rome are having to put in 19 minutes per night. I think we are seeing the toll the injuries took on our defense. It is more of an after-effect, as the guys who played huge minutes and the players coming back from injury are probably not 100%. The Sedins are on a bit of a drought. 5 games without a goal for Daniel Sedin (3 games without a point). Daniel has only 5 goals in his last 21 games. Kesler has 1 goal in his last 10. Our top scorers need to get going. Our 4th line brings no offense and it is just a bonus with the third line scores as they are doing their job physically and defensively. Samuelsson was actually carrying our offense with 10 goals over 17 games but he too has run dry. I find guys like Raymond and Samuelsson too inconsistent to rely on, but both have the ability to crank it up to star-player levels over stretches. I would have expected edler, but Bieksa has impressed a lot. Sadly, I cant really say the same for Hammer and Ballard. While they have been decent, The hype Hammer got, and the pay Ballard has, We should be the best d team in the league. Which isnt hte case. THankfully KB did up his game this season to cover for the unexpected "not so greatness" of the 2 new pickups. Hopefully its just a new to the team kind of thing, and next season they both take bigger roles.
sampy
Too add to everyone elses good points, Bieksa is also are best dman at holding the blueline. I hope he want a modest salary next year and we can resign him as he brings a lot to the table.

Ballard on the other hand has quite frankly being whooping it up with Rome as worst rostered D. (Rome wins btw) Ballard is by a long shot the most overpaid player on the team atm. Having said that for all the good things he brings to the team I wouldn't want to see him traded but he certainly hasn't earned a shot or shown that he's even capable of being a top pairing D. That includes when he was in Florida. I know I know...."but he hasn't had an opportunity". Quite frankly Ballard hasn't earned an opportunity. I know I know...."but players AV likes don't seem to have to earn it hrmph". Frack off.

And as far a Hammer and Ballard go....i think next season may be a bit more comfortable as they use this season to establish themselves on the team, in the dressing room and on the blueline. I give them both a pass.

He always had the ability to be a good top4, but his decision making really had a huge negative effect on him. The talk he got from GMMG this summer has really made a difference to him. Good on him for bringing it around like that.
Clark Kent
Juice has that ability to just take over a game, ie game 6 against Chicago last year. I've seen that less from him this year, but he's been consistently good.
