Sharpshooter
Juice was pretty good today. A couple of missed clears though. And I wish he would have converted on the breakaway...that would have been sweet. But he played physical, aggressive, made good passes, made good pinches and defensive reads. All in all...a really solid game.
لني
Yeah I missed the third will have to watch it when I get back home from work. Sounds like he had a couple if mistakes clearing but all in our D was pretty solid tonight. The forwards have to get open for passes as the Hawks can hard charge our D to get them scrambling. There was one big one. Late in the game with the 'Nucks on the PK and the Hawks with an empty net, Kes won the draw clean back to Juice, which he behind the net. I was thinking a hard high shot up the middle, looking for the empty net, but instead he decided to play it "safe" by ringing around the boards. He completely whiffed, basically handing the puck to the Hawks' point man. No harm done though, and as Sharpie said a solid game otherwise. Ev en if it's a hard shot there is still a chance that someone is there to intercept it, goalies are usually out of position on this play and it's an easy goal for the other team, bravo to Kevin for ringing it along the board even though someone had to bail him out. Much smarter going board than middle.

I still don't understand what his penalty was for. Looked like a weak call.

nuxforever
A solid game by Juice yesterday...Would have been sweeter if he had scored on the breakaway pass from Kelser
youngdad
A solid game by Juice yesterday...Would have been sweeter if he had scored on the breakaway pass from Kelser Agreed. What a guy. Anybody hear his interview with Scott Oake after the game? It was short but I really liked a couple of things he said. Oake tried to bait him into talking about the sense of anticipation from Vancouver fans of a deep run. Bieksa said "I hate to break it to you, but we are not going to sweep our way through the playoffs. We are going to hit some big bumps along the way. This guy gets it. I hope his attitude reflects the majority of the room because it is very mature. Nothing goes according to plan 100% of the time. I would think in the NHL if it goes according to plan 60% of the time you're doing pretty good. Players have to figure out what to do when the other 40% rears its ugly head. BTW. Shameless self plug here, but Oake's interview perfectly illustrated what I tried to explain in my "How Nuck fans can wreck everything" rant. The media reflects the fans. A couple of times Bieksa made it seem like fans are silly and he has to look past them (and their expectations). Its a shame that we have some fans that are obstacles rather than motivators. I guess every local sports market has those fans, it just seems like there are a LOT in Vancouver.

لني
Overall Bieksa came to play the whole series. Made some errors but they were far and few between. As much as people talk about Kesler shutting down Toews, every time I saw Toews getting stapled to the boards it was #3 doing the deed. I watched all the games on versus and the commentators were frequently mentioning how well Bieksa played. Hard to say a D man played better throughout the series. Sharpshooter
I'll give much props to Edler and Hammer for sure....but Bieksa was the leader of the defence this round and he played like it.
لني
I'll give much props to Edler and Hammer for sure....but Bieksa was the leader of the defence this round and he played like it. Hard to say anyone played outstanding when you have a near complete collapse but from what I saw: Bieksa - played tough minutes against the top lines, was an underrated reason for Chi top line being near non-existant. Played with emotion when others seemed to be resigned to float and do nothing. Made some good pinches, some good hits. Got caught out of position a few times got beaten like a rented mule by Bickell which would have embarrassed him. Hamhuis - When he was good he shows why he was such a sought after Dman. Tonight he looked great for the most part. But he had a couple of brutal games making bad pinches etc. Edler - Shows why he is the Nucks number one. Great hits. Good offense. But he struggled for games 4,5,6. Hes got some seasoning to do but man when he plays good you can see a great Dman. Ehrhoff - ??? still trying to find him! Looked all over the place at time in game 4,5 but played better in the other games. Made a terrific play to get Burrows his first goal in game 7, should have been given an assist on that. Concerns me that he seems to go as the Sedins go and the PP. Salo - Looked slow and a step behind many times. Seems still finding his feet. But hes a good all around D man so at the 5-6 spot no harm really. Ballard - Played well overall. Struggled with Toews down low but made some nice hits and his usual good breakout passes for the most part. Alberts - Played decent for what he is. Hes slow so the lack of speed seemed to hurt him against Hossa on the game 6 winner. But his size when he uses it well is a boon. Made a great hit deep in the Chi zone tonight at teh start to help set the tone. Rome - WTF? Get rid of this guy.....
